Chapter 11: Mutual Assistance

Only children make choices, adults... don't have a choice at all.

The battle has begun.

Li Qingjun's silver spear flew forward. The spider demon didn't expect this disruption in their coordination and anger appeared on its face. It swung its upper arm to block, and with a "clang," a clash of gold and iron resounded.

The spider demon's other arm, like a long sword, stabbed towards Li Qingjun's face. Li Qingjun slightly dodged, and the spider arm grazed past her hair, taking a strand with it.

With a burst of force, Li Qingjun's silver spear swept across the waist, and the monster blocked once again. Both sides took a step back.

Surrounding them were seven or eight tightly wrapped human-shaped cocoons. Li Qingjun held her spear with one hand, facing the monster directly. The previous sense of fear had disappeared, replaced by a cold determination in her eyes.

In the pouring rain, her long hair scattered, sticking to her cheeks with rainwater. Her body was even more soaked than when Qin Yi had drenched her, but she stood tall like a spear, unmoving.

"Where are the original Taoists from the Taoist temple?"

The spider demon chuckled strangely and actually spoke in a human voice, "Of course, they were eaten."

Li Qingjun took a deep breath and coldly shouted, "Such crimes cannot go unpunished!"

A silver radiance rose again, cutting through the dark Taoist temple. The force was deflected by the monster, leaving a large hole in the earthen wall of the courtyard.

Li Qinglin also stepped out of the courtyard, carrying a long spear on his back, standing by his sister's side to support her. He didn't join the battle, but it was clear that he intended to train his sister.

Liu Su sighed, "These people clearly offended her. What's the point of saving them? The original Taoists? They're all dead, so why bother?"

Qin Yi ignored it. He didn't think Li Qingjun was in the wrong this time. In fact, he even admired her a little. After thinking for a moment, he quietly stood at the exit of the courtyard and used the sharp teeth of his wolf's tooth club to carve a simple formation on the ground.

A simplified small-scale demon-binding formation, just like the one used against the demon tiger. He didn't know if it would work against the spider demon, but he did what he could.

Looking back at the intense battle, one side had flowing long hair, a silver spear like a dragon, graceful like a startled swan. The thunder and lightning in the storm reflected on a beautiful face, weaving through the white silk in the sky. Just watching was a kind of enjoyment. The other side was terrifying in appearance, roaring like thunder. The contrasting visual impact made Li Qingjun appear even more like a fairy.

"I didn't realize this reckless girl could be so beautiful. Indeed, red flowers need green leaves as a backdrop," Qin Yi muttered under his breath.

Liu Su chuckled.

Qin Yi looked at the human-shaped cocoons on the ground and still felt his stomach churning. He cautiously asked, "Besides binding, does this monster have any other special techniques?"

"Poison, most spiders are venomous," Liu Su said, "I don't think it has any other skills, after all, it's just a small monster. In terms of combat techniques, it may not be as good as Li Qingjun. But its magic is tricky, Li Qingjun alone may not be able to defeat it."

In the midst of the battle, Li Qingjun used her spear to open several strands of white silk and stabbed directly at the spider monster's shoulder.

The spider monster couldn't dodge and let out a painful roar. Its legs staggered back a few steps, and the seemingly impenetrable body was actually pierced, with green blood flowing out.

But at the same time, the spear stuck in its body quickly became entangled in spider webs and couldn't be pulled back. Then a dark blue color spread from the tip of the spear, approaching Li Qingjun's hands.

Li Qingjun forcefully broke free from the spider webs, pulled back the spear, and looked somewhat disheveled.

Qin Yi touched his chin and muttered to himself, "Indeed, this spider monster looks terrifying, but it's not that strong... Its strength seems to be inferior to that monster tiger?"

"Strength is limited by its inherent nature, but in terms of various magical abilities, it is much stronger than that monster tiger," Liu Su said, "especially in terms of traps. Li Qingjun just didn't fall into them. The biggest difference between monsters and beasts lies not in strength, but in this."

"Intelligence?"

"Yes. Look, it has been avoiding provoking Li Qinglin and instead keeps looking at you. It probably sees you as an easy target and plans to break through to you when things don't go well. Very clever."

...

In the midst of the battle, Li Qingjun was already at a disadvantage.

As Liu Su said, the spider monster didn't have any outstanding combat techniques, but Li Qingjun also lacked experience in dealing with magic. Every time she seemed to have the upper hand, she was always thrown into disarray by various strange techniques.

Qin Yi watched with relish, while Li Qinglin worried about her sister's safety and finally took action.

"Swoosh!"

Without even seeing the movement, the silver spear had already reached the spider monster's face. The eerie aura made the spider monster's stiff hair stand on end. It instinctively raised its arm to block, and the sword-like upper arm emitted a burnt smell. It was the instantly erupted spiral force drilling into its solid arm, causing burns.

At the same time, it seemed that there was something shining on Li Qinglin's body. The spider monster let out a terrified howl and rushed towards Li Qingjun without any regard for her own spear, which was already at its face.

Liu Su pondered, "There's something on Li Qinglin's body... This effect can't be achieved by pure martial arts..."

Perhaps the fear that Li Qinglin brought to the spider monster was too strong. It didn't even try to dodge and directly rammed into Li Qingjun's shoulder, deflecting her spear. Then it continued to charge, pushing Li Qingjun back for more than ten steps.

Li Qingjun remained calm and pushed back against the spider monster. The spear had already been adjusted, and she held the front end of the long spear with her delicate hand, forcefully stabbing it into the monster's mouth, shattering several of its fangs and piercing through its throat.

The spider monster let out a earth-shattering scream of pain, but suddenly sprayed out red smoke from its mouth, instantly enveloping Li Qingjun, who was almost within reach.

Poison, who knows what kind of spider this is, what kind of poison?

On the other side, Li Qinglin was startled, about to help his sister, but suddenly stopped.

Seeing the spider demon's arm about to pierce Li Qingjun's throat, there was a "crack" sound, but it screamed again. The arm that should have been inserted into Li Qingjun's throat was actually stuck on a wolf tooth club that appeared out of nowhere.

The sharp teeth on the wolf tooth club poked into the arm, even though its arm was as hard as a sword, it couldn't bear the pain.

But they had been pushing forward all the way and were already close to Qin Yi.

Qin Yi blocked the spider's arm with the wolf tooth club in one hand, and pulled Li Qingjun's waist back three steps. Just as they stood firm, he immediately took out a pill and stuffed it into Li Qingjun's mouth.

Li Qinglin didn't chase after them, seemingly interested in observing Qin Yi's performance.

Li Qingjun was also stunned.

The pill dissolved as soon as it entered her mouth, a cool sensation spread through her mind and limbs, instantly clearing her drowsy head, and her hands regained strength.

Turning her head, she saw Qin Yi's smiling face.

"This is a true antidote pill. I offered it to your brother before, but he didn't want it."

Li Qingjun pursed her lips, about to say something, but Qin Yi suddenly embraced her waist again and quickly floated back three feet.

The spider demon missed again and roared, chasing after them on all fours.

Qin Yi held onto Li Qingjun and retreated to the side of the door. Just as the spider demon caught up, it suddenly stopped.

Its foot seemed to have stepped on something, as if it was stuck to the ground and couldn't be lifted. It reached out to attack Qin Yi and Li Qingjun, but it was a foot away and couldn't reach them no matter what.

Looking up, Qin Yi smiled, revealing the wolf tooth club.

"Don't take me for a pushover. Let the club teach you Immortal Ascension."

...

"Thank you for saving us, sir." The people from the martial arts world who were released from the cocoons expressed their gratitude. "We will definitely go to Changsheng Temple to offer incense and pray for your blessings."

"Hey!" Li Qingjun said discontentedly, "It was us who saved you. Why are you going to offer incense at Changsheng Temple?"

"Although we should be grateful to you, now that we have seen real monsters, we should show even more respect to the immortals and gods..."

Li Qingjun didn't know how to refute this and silently watched them leave with their thanks.

The three of them didn't stay in the Taoist temple any longer and came to a pavilion outside the mountain. The pavilion was fresh and clean in the rain, making the three of them who had just left the Taoist temple feel refreshed.

Li Qingjun's gloomy mood also quickly improved. She stretched her arms and said, "I actually killed a man-eating monster. Can I be considered a fairy?"

Qin Yi found her interesting.

He looked at Li Qingjun with interest, while Li Qinglin looked at him with interest. "Thank you for your help earlier, Brother Qin."

Li Qingjun pursed her lips, turned her head, and looked at the distant mountains without saying a word.

Qin Yi said, "It's nothing. It was just a moment of urgency. I realized that if I didn't make a move, Brother Li wouldn't let his sister get into trouble. This monster is no match for you at all."

"Anyway, Brother Qin helped us." Li Qinglin smiled. "And Brother Qin was able to detect the presence of the monster in advance. You have great skills."

Qin Yi felt embarrassed.

Li Qinglin looked at Qin Yi's wolf tooth club and smiled, "But I couldn't tell. Brother Qin, this seemingly inconspicuous wolf tooth club of yours was able to smash the monster's head."

"Ahahaha, its head was a human head, not strong enough." Qin Yi didn't want them to inquire about the wolf tooth club, so he changed the topic directly. "Earlier, I heard Brother Li say that he didn't believe in immortals. Even though a tiger can grow wings, it can still be considered a mutation. But when faced with such a monster, why isn't Brother Li surprised?"

Li Qinglin explained, "Brother Qin misunderstood. I only don't believe in the exaggerated immortality and eternal youth. I don't doubt the existence of demons and monsters, or the Taoist arts of exorcising demons and eliminating evil. Because the former cannot be proven, but the latter has many facts. In fact, I have also killed monsters before."

"I see..." If that's the case, the "immortals" in Li Qinglin's eyes are different from what others see. In the eyes of ordinary people, if you have some Taoist skills, you can be considered an immortal. But in Li Qinglin's eyes, it's just someone who has mastered some special techniques, and maybe he can't even beat them.

Not being able to live forever fundamentally means not surpassing the scope of humans.

No wonder he has no interest in his sister's "search for immortals". Perhaps there are many "miracles" and "monsters", but none of them are enough to surprise him.

Li Qinglin continued, "Actually, dealing with monsters is simple, but dealing with people is much more difficult."

Qin Yi was stunned, "Why is that?"

"Because monsters are nothing special. You can kill them with a spear and leave a hole. There is no burden in killing them, even if you kill a non-evil monster, everyone will praise you. But if you want to kill a person, there will be all kinds of troubles. No matter what your identity is, it is difficult to do as you please."

Qin Yi fell silent.
