Atlas of Heaven and Man

#171 - Dangerous Area

Although Chen Chuan couldn't see, he could sense from the changes in the water flow that it was roughly a long, shuttle-shaped object, and quite large.

With a movement of his waist, he twisted his body in a brief moment, raised his hand, and deflected outwards, instantly diverting something extremely hard and incredibly fast.

But this was in the water, after all, and he had no footing, so the force carried by the object also moved him, and he had to turn his body to dissipate the force.

Through the feeling in his hand, he realized that what he had encountered should be the same type of hard-headed carp he had eaten earlier, only larger, at least a meter long in his estimation.

This wasn't surprising, as Chang Ba had been fishing in this vicinity just now, indicating that this type of fish was quite common in this area.

And it seemed there were rather too many of them.

Soon, he discovered through the changes in the water flow that one hard-headed carp after another was constantly coming, each one carrying immense power, like blunt arrows being shot out; if the front were sharper, it would be comparable to a real crossbow bolt.

At this moment, it was impossible for him to completely block with his hands, nor could he block them all; he could only protect his head and face, using the mutated tissue within his muscles to contract inward upon contact and then bounce them away, or rely on the twisting of his body to deflect and slip these things away.

But doing so would inevitably mean that a portion of the mutated tissue couldn't participate in internal respiration, especially since he was in the middle of intense activity, which undoubtedly increased his consumption; in just a short while, he felt more exhausted than he had after swimming a whole circle earlier.

However, these fish weren't specifically attacking him; it was just that he happened to be in their path. The first one he encountered must have been the leader, and the fish behind were simply following its lead.

Thus, as long as he could find a way to leave this area, he should be able to avoid the school of fish.

He carefully sensed the changes in the outside water flow, moving as much as possible towards the areas that didn't feel so turbulent.

He was cautious during this process because when Chang Ba introduced them to him earlier, he mentioned that a few of the blue carp in the school had particularly sharp heads, often hidden within the school, and if they caught their prey off guard, they could easily pierce them right through.

With his correct choice, he broke away from the path of the fish school. He didn't rush to move but took the opportunity to adjust his internal breathing and recover slightly.

Only when he felt the water flow had completely calmed down did he start swimming again.

But before he had gone far, new trouble arrived.

He encountered another type of fish he had eaten, the one Chang Ba called 'piranha'. This thing was annoying; although generally small, it was exceptionally agile, darting from the side and back to bite you.

Fortunately, the diving suit he wore was worthy of the Central City's technology and wasn't bitten through, and every time he felt one, the muscles there would bulge and bounce it away.

At first, he thought he could avoid this group of fish like he had avoided the hard-headed carp, but he soon realized that he was just wishful thinking; these things seemed to have fixated on him, not only not stopping but gathering more and more towards him.

He was very decisive and immediately expelled the toxins that hadn't yet been metabolized from his body through his skin. This approach proved to be effective; although some still came up occasionally, most actively avoided him.

Discovering this, he considered whether he should eat more of this type of fish next time before coming down.

While the toxins were still being expelled, he sped up and swam away from here.

In fact, after understanding the attack methods of these fish, he believed he could kill them with his bare hands, but that would only waste energy and have no practical benefit. There wasn't just this type of fish in the water; avoiding them was the most appropriate course of action.

Given the complexity of the situation here, he slowed down a bit, but it was this slight slowdown that caused a problem.

The situation at this moment could be described as very urgent; if he couldn't get rid of it quickly, he wouldn't be able to get out.

Pulling hard was useless because it had enough toughness that even if he stretched his limbs to the limit, he probably wouldn't be able to break it, and this was in the water, so his exertion was limited.

He calmly faced this crisis. Under the effect of internal respiration, his body slowly swelled up, including the muscles in his legs, feet, waist, and arms, which were gradually tensing and expanding under the action of the mutated tissue.

When it was almost at the limit, he suddenly exhaled, and at the same time, his body contracted inward. At this moment, the muscles in all parts of his body suddenly shrank inward by a circle!

And in that instant, a gap appeared between him and the seaweed wrapped around his body. He seized this opportunity, quickly pulled his hands and feet out of those loops, and at the same time, grabbed the seaweed around his waist, tightened his abdomen, and suddenly lifted his body upward, freeing his body from the entanglement.

Immediately afterward, he kicked his legs and quickly darted out, leaving a trail of water behind him, while those entangled things contracted inward again, but grabbed at empty space. After a while, they swayed and shrunk back.

Chen Chuan now knew that he couldn't swim too fast or too slow here. So, after that, while maintaining a certain speed, he also tried his best to observe the surrounding environment and became very cautious.

On the way, he encountered various kinds of fish, but he managed to avoid them or shake them off in time. After swimming for a long time, he finally found the first sign.

Although it was much worse than before, the situation was different, so it couldn't be generalized.

He could feel that this training was more about testing his ability to cope in complex environments. The skills and abilities he had previously mastered could be used here.

After going forward for a while, a narrow pit appeared beside him. He became alert. Sure enough, as soon as he got close, a torrent of water came from the front.

Because he was already prepared, he tried to stick to the nearby cave wall, but as soon as he got there, he suddenly realized something was wrong. The heteromorphic tissue inside his body moved, and he rolled sideways in the water. Just as he avoided it, something seemed to suddenly close, and the water pressure it stirred up even pushed him out for a distance, showing how powerful it was.

He waited for a while and saw that the thing was still motionless. Although he couldn't see it, he felt that it should be something like a clam, just waiting with its mouth open for someone to fall in. It was simply impossible to guard against.

He stopped here for a moment. At this moment, according to his own estimation, it should not be far from an hour now, and it was time to find a way out.

He was also thinking about whether to continue forward or simply go back to the original position.

The situation ahead was unclear, and behind him was the road he had just passed, which seemed easier. But he came here to get training and strengthen himself. If he was greedy for saving effort, there was no need to come down, so he immediately made the decision to continue forward.

Even if he encountered something particularly dangerous, with the second me there, most of the dangers should be able to be dealt with.

About ten minutes later, when he was looking for a way out, he found the second sign, but there was no rope behind it, obviously it had been broken by something.

He didn't need to hold this thing in his hand. As long as he touched it, he would know the number on it. Even if he didn't know, it didn't matter. Touching a few pieces was touching a few pieces. He was to improve himself, not to give an explanation to anyone. There was no point in deceiving himself.

He judged the direction of the water flow and swam towards it. Not long after, after turning a narrow place, he saw the light shining down above his head. He speeded up and swam towards it.

At this time, he saw many piranhas swimming around. Without waiting for them to get close, he slapped his hands repeatedly. As he rushed forward, more than a dozen were swept to the surface of the water. Finally, he jumped up, leaped out of the water, and heard Chang Ba's voice in his ear when he broke through the surface of the water: "Brother Chen is out."

The pit Chen Chuan was in at the moment was relatively large. He swam to the shore, climbed up from it, wiped his face, looked at the dazzling sunlight above his head, and couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief. Although this dive was not long, the dangerous situations he encountered were not few, and they were all things he had never encountered before.

Moreover, the area he swam through today was only a part of it, and there were probably more and more complex situations that he had not encountered yet.

After Chang Ba waited for him to come out, he immediately went to collect the fish that had been slapped up, put them one by one into the lead bucket, and smacked his lips, "So fat." He got up and gave Chen Chuan a thumbs up, "Brother Chen, you are really good. You persisted in this for nearly an hour."

Although Chen Chuan failed to touch many signs, being able to swim in this underground water area for an hour and successfully come up was already very remarkable.

Before, there were some familiar young fighters who had tried it, but they all went down with safety ropes tied to them. Even so, they couldn't stay for long. When they came out, they were all with lingering fears and didn't want to try again.

He Xiaoxing then said: "I don't set limits for you at this stage. You set your own goals. How far you can go depends entirely on yourself."

Chen Chuan thought for a while. Before going down, he thought that with his previous results, even if the time was not enough, he should be able to swim smoothly below. But after experiencing a circle below, he felt that he was still lacking.

This time he was able to come out smoothly, but he could not guarantee that he would be able to do so every time. Although the probability of survival with the second me was greatly increased, this violated his original intention of strengthening himself. It was better to consolidate the foundation first and then verify the results.

He raised his head and said: "Teacher He, I want to continue the previous training and strengthen myself a little more."

He Xiaoxing said: "If the foundation is solid, it is easy to build on it. Since it is your choice, then do it."

Chen Chuan nodded. He looked back at Chang Ba, who was happily carrying a few fish in his hand, and said: "Brother Chang, it seems that I will have to trouble you for a while."

Chang Ba said: "It's okay. If you come here again next time, just catch a few more fish for me as a thank you. Besides, I'm waiting to give you free service. If you miss this village, there will be no such shop."

Chen Chuan smiled and said: "That shouldn't take too long."
