Azeroth Monster Manual

#107 - Antonidas's final stand

"Sword-Edge-Storm!"

A roar, resonant as metal striking stone, echoed as Ayr, his massive form like a small mountain, appeared through the thick mist before everyone.

People could clearly see patches of dark brown marks all over the young man's body; he... was injured.

...

"Brian, pinch me. I must be hallucinating."

Muradin stared blankly at the figure even taller than a legendary water elemental, muttering to himself.

"Ouch! You really pinched me!"

Muradin pulled up his sleeve, looking at his forearm, now a large, bruised purple, with tearful eyes.

"Brother, could that kid be your illegitimate son?"

Brian leaned close to Muradin's ear, speaking 'softly'.

However, the dwarf's loud voice still caused everyone in the VIP seats to look towards the two brothers.

"Shut up! You bastard, what nonsense are you spouting!?"

Muradin quickly covered his younger brother's foul mouth, smiling apologetically at the crowd.

"Then it must be the elder brother's! I didn't expect the elder brother, who looks so upright and honest, to secretly have an illegitimate son behind our backs. How detestable!"

Brian shook off Magni's hand, 'muttering' to himself.

"What nonsense... Eh? Ever since Moira was abducted by those Black Iron bastards, elder brother has been drowning his sorrows in alcohol. Maybe..."

"Haha, big news! Big news!"

Taking advantage of the brothers' conversation, Therma Plugg, with a nimble somersault, lay down under Brian's high stool, excitedly pulling out his notebook.

"Shocking! Master Ayr is actually the illegitimate son of the King of Ironforge! Is it a decline in morality, or... No, no, forget about Master Ayr; after all, he is a friend of Gnomeregan. Cross this out..."

Therma Plugg dragged his small head, staring worriedly at his notebook.

"Moira... Moira, are they talking about Princess Moira Bronzebeard? Haha! I've got it! It should be written like this..."

As if struck by chicken blood, Therma Plugg began writing furiously in his notebook.

"The love-hate relationship between the Bronzebeards and the Black Irons: Regarding the affair of Princess Bronzebeard falling in love with the King of the Black Iron dwarves, King Magni Bronzebeard retaliated by abducting the Black Iron Princess and fathering an illegitimate son to seek revenge on Thaurissan..."

...

Ayr's massive figure appeared clearly before everyone. His originally fair skin had turned into a rocky, light gray, and even his golden hair had turned white.

Just as the audience was marveling at Ayr's transformation, the young man finally began his counterattack.

The Phoenix Blade, originally like a spear, now resembled a short sword, gripped tightly in his hand. The young man's knees bent slightly, his waist arched, and light blue magic gradually surged from his body.

A moment later, Ayr began to spin. The Phoenix Blade, shimmering with magical light, gradually dimmed, shrouded in a faint layer of gray as he breathed.

A violent mana storm erupted from the young man's body. Amidst the audience's gasps of astonishment, Ayr transformed into a giant spinning top, flashing with arcane storms.

"Boom..."

Several legendary water elementals' arcane fists slammed heavily onto the lightning-flashing 'spinning top'. Water arrows and jets sprayed like machine guns, striking the Sword-Edge-Storm one after another, the ear-piercing sound grating on the ears of everyone in the arena.

Those elemental fists that struck Ayr turned into patches of thick mist the moment they touched the Sword-Edge-Storm, while those spells that touched the Sword-Edge-Storm flew back the way they came, returning to the water elementals.

"My turn!"

Ayr roared in his heart, the Arcane Field enveloping the Sword-Edge-Storm as he sped towards those massive legendary water elementals.

"One down!"

The sharp Phoenix Blade easily shattered a water elemental lord who was about to unleash its power. This water elemental tried to reform its body, but was completely annihilated by the Arcane Field surrounding the Sword-Edge-Storm.

"Two down!"

"Three down!"

...

"Sixteen down!"

Ayr actively stopped the Sword-Edge-Storm. At this moment, he was dizzy and leaning on the Shattered Barrier, gazing at his recent "labor results."

Those powerful water elementals had all disappeared completely. The originally dry arena was like it had been flooded, knee-deep water flowing around Ayr's legs.

Antonidas stared blankly at the mountain-like Ayr, a "uh uh" sound coming from his throat, unable to speak for a long time.

Feeling the elemental pool within his body nearing exhaustion, Antonidas couldn't help but lower his head in disappointment, but he quickly raised his head again, gazing at those who were still cheering and supporting him.

"Is this the true meaning of a gladiator?"

Antonidas smiled self-deprecatingly and slowly raised the legendary staff in his hand.

"Never give up until the last moment; you have truly taught me a lesson."

Lengthy and complex incantations slowly poured from the Archmage's mouth. Ayr, floating in the distance, did not interrupt him, because the young man understood that he had already won, and what Antonidas was reciting was not a spell, but his final stubbornness and pride.

"Your Excellency, Speaker, you are already a qualified gladiator."

Ayr muttered to himself, looking at Antonidas, who was squeezing the last drop of power from his elemental pool, with complex emotions.

"Snowstorm!"

(Blizzard)

Feeling his weakened body, Antonidas still gritted his teeth and continued to chant:

"Ice stom!"

(Ice Storm)

"Not enough, not enough!"

Forcibly swallowing the blood that was about to flow out, the Archmage's teeth turned blood red. With a roar, he finally recited the last layer of magic:

"Comet stom!"

(Comet Storm)

"Ayr Saronas! Although you have won, still taste my self-created three-element spell - Ice Hell!"

Antonidas fell to the ground with a 'plop'. Although he lost the battle, Ayr could still see joy and relief on the Speaker's face.

The moment Antonidas fell, the originally clear sky suddenly darkened. Intense ice elements roared in the sky, and the solid magical barrier began to crack inch by inch.

Seeing the spectators fainting one by one in the extreme cold, Baelovar could no longer hold on.

"Quickly, invite Grand Magister Rommath and Prince Kael'thas!"

...

Ice meteorites rained down into the arena. As soon as these meteorites hit the ground, they transformed into low-level ice elementals, attacking Ayr.

It didn't end there. Dark, oppressive ice cyclones began to condense in the air. An ice storm, radiating a crystal-clear light, gradually formed, beginning to rage throughout the arena.

"No, the barrier can't hold on any longer. If this continues, even if these civilians aren't killed by the meteorites, they will be frozen to death by the extremely cold domain!"

Ayr exhaled a breath of cold air and rubbed his hands together, finally making up his mind.

"Antonidas, you've really given me a problem. Too many trump cards are being revealed today, but there's no choice. For the lives of these civilians, some trade-offs must be made."

...

"Your Majesty! Why are you here!?"

Baelovar looked at the Sun King, who had come with Kael'thas, with joy. Originally, Rommath and Kael'thas, plus himself, might have been able to reconstruct the magic barrier, but now that the Sun King had come in person, the spectators in the arena might be rescued.

Just as the four elven grand mages were preparing to reconstruct the magical barrier, a silent wave swept across the entire arena.

"This is... my elemental pool..."

Rommath raised his hand, saying incredulously.

Baelovar and Anasterian exchanged a glance, smiling helplessly.

'How could I forget that that brat still has this trump card? What an enviable fellow.'

Anasterian ignored the tense Kael'thas and Rommath, and slowly walked towards the VIP seats, while Baelovar also didn't explain, following closely behind the Sun King.

...

A milky white halo spread out from Ayr's body. Antonidas's [Ice Hell] was extraordinary, having already surpassed the scope of a seventh-circle spell, which forced Ayr to make a difficult decision... to self-detonate 10% of his mana, releasing the Anti-Magic Field!

The elliptical Anti-Magic Field seemed slow, but it was actually extremely fast. The falling ice meteorites, the moment they touched the milky white halo, began to disintegrate into ordinary water elements under some powerful domain.

The ice storm in the air was no exception. In just a few seconds, Antonidas's last stubbornness - [Ice Hell] - was instantly frozen and disintegrated by Ayr's seventh-circle forbidden spell...

Antonidas lay on his back on the ground, bathing in the rain falling from the sky, revealing a bitter smile.

"I... lost."
