Azeroth Monster Manual

#110 - Zul'Gurub Adventure (Part 1)

The origins of the Gurubashi trolls can be traced back tens of thousands of years. After the Great Sundering of the Well of Eternity ten thousand years ago, this powerful troll clan and the Amani tribe became the rulers of the continent of Lordaeron.

If the decline of the Amani Empire was inseparable from the high elves, then the demise of Gurubashi was purely its own problem.

“As early as thousands of years ago, the mighty Gurubashi Empire fell into a large-scale civil war. A group of fanatical Atal'ai priests worshiped a bloodthirsty evil god named Hakkar the Soulflayer. (Hakkar the Blood God)

After years of war, although these Atal'ai priests had been defeated and permanently exiled, the once-powerful Gurubashi Empire was also weakened by years of internal warfare.

Those exiles came to the Swamp of Sorrows in the north. There, they built a huge temple for the blood god Hakkar—the Temple of Atal'Hakkar—and continued to prepare there for their master's return to the material world…

Finally, the Atal'ai priests discovered that Hakkar's physical form could only be summoned in Zul'Gurub, the capital of the Gurubashi Empire.

Unfortunately, these priests have recently secretly infiltrated the heart of the Gurubashi ruins, and their work to summon Hakkar has made decisive progress.

A Hakkar priest disguised as an archaeologist, the witch doctor Jin'do, usually goes by the alias Yekikya. He secretly hides in Gadgetzan outside Zul'Farrak, using deceptive lies and large sums of money to hire warriors from all over to work for him…”

Kael'thas recited the contents of the parchment with a serious expression, and the other two also frowned.

“Are those Zandalari scholars… really trustworthy?”

Aegwynn took the parchment from Kael'thas's hand and asked suspiciously.

“It’s worth a try. We don’t have much time left from Instructor Aeilmar, and we must bring back the head of Meryl and his personal belongings in three days.”

Ansirem said solemnly.

“But… if that damn witch doctor Jin'do really summons the blood god Hakkar… then we are likely not his match.”

“Don’t worry, if this information is accurate, the witch doctor Jin'do’s plan to summon the blood god may have only just begun.

As far as I know, he hasn’t found the Ancient Egg that can carry Hakkar’s soul yet, and a coward who only knows how to hide his head and show his tail, no matter how powerful his priests are, I don’t think he is enough to be afraid of for the three of us.”

Ansirem analyzed.

“Then we… do it?”

Aegwynn was a little uneasy. This was the first time he had carried out such a dangerous mission, but he was not afraid, because this was an order personally issued by Instructor Aeilmar, and he had to carry it out perfectly.

“Before that, we still need some preparation…”

… …

Late at night, a few roars were heard from time to time in the silent primeval forest, and the hunters woke up one by one and began their carnival.

The mage trio were lying on a large tree not far from the outskirts of Zul'Gurub City, observing the movements of the patrol guards.

“31… 32… 33…”

Ansirem was the oldest of the three and also the most experienced magister. Having served as the captain of the mage team in Lordaeron, he had excellent observation and keen insight.

Just as Ansirem silently counted to the number 82 in his mind, he finally said softly:

“Three breaths later, everyone casts Slow Fall on themselves, 5 breaths later, everyone casts Lesser Invisibility, slip down at a 32° angle to the northwest, nod if you understand.”

Kael'thas and Aegwynn nodded nervously. Although they were powerful magisters, they had never experienced such thrilling things.

… …

A moment later, the trio flew towards the gate of Zul'Gurub, narrowly missing a patrol team.

“Huff… huff… huff…”

Kael'thas and Aegwynn gasped for breath and exchanged excited glances before hurrying after Ansirem towards this magnificent but dilapidated troll city.

Patrolling trolls passed by from time to time on both sides of the dark road, but they did not find any trace of the three. Huge torches burning were inserted on the walls on both sides, which made the originally dark path as bright as day.

Unfortunately, what the three of them used was not stealth in the traditional sense. The concepts of invisibility and stealth are exactly the opposite. Stealth is when those with superb skills communicate with the shadows to achieve the purpose of hiding their whereabouts by using the shadows.

Invisibility, on the other hand, allows the caster to briefly walk in another dimension. This weak dimension cannot be seen by others, but it can only be seen. If you get close, you can still touch or attack it.

“Ah!”

Kael'thas seemed to have discovered something and let out a hasty exclamation. Although he hurriedly covered his mouth, he still attracted the patrol team from afar.

“There’s movement over there, go and see.”

“Hiss hiss…”

Several Gurubashi guards riding blood-red raptors rushed towards the location of the three, but when they came to the location where the three had just been, they only found three vipers spitting out snake letters.

“Let’s go, they are the descendants of Sethraliss, continue to be vigilant.”

As the patrol team walked away, the three strange-looking vipers on the ground turned back into the appearance of the trio after a burst of smoke.

“Kael'thas, you idiot!”

Ansirem scolded angrily in a low voice.

“Uh, sorry, I thought that statue was real…”

Kael'thas rubbed his Mediterranean Sea embarrassedly. The reason why he exclaimed just now was because there were two huge viper statues standing in the distance, and he, who was slightly nearsighted, mistakenly thought they were real vipers, thus exclaiming in fright.

Although everyone was delayed for a while because of Kael'thas's fuss, the three of them still set foot on the troll land of Zul'Gurub when the moon was in the middle of the sky.

The three hid behind an ancient tree, discussing the next adventure plan.

Ansirem took advantage of the dim moonlight and slowly unfolded the map he bought from the Zandalari scholars in front of the three.

“The location we are at now is here…”

Ansirem pointed to a conspicuous location on the map after careful observation.

“If we follow the guidance of the map and go straight, we will soon come to the altar of High Priest Venoxis, which is an evil sacrifice dedicated to Sethraliss (the Serpent God).

And the east of the Venoxis altar is our destination, the residence of High Priest Thekal. If we take this route, it will be the fastest and safest route…”
