Azeroth Monster Manual

#142 - Our cause is just!

"Mentor, what do we do now? Do you really believe those nobles will keep their word and stop planting blood thistle?"

Kainal followed the young man, sweating profusely and speaking anxiously.

"What do you think?"

Aier didn't stop, his pace seemingly slow, but in reality, he had maintained this speed for over ten hours.

If it weren't for taking care of Kainal, the young man might have already completed the first step of his plan, but Kainal was a crucial part of this plan, so the young man had to accommodate him a bit.

"Mentor, I... I can't go on."

Kainal staggered, almost falling. Despite the help of levitation spells and mage hand, this was the first time a high-level mage had experienced such intense exertion.

Even though his magic power was long exhausted, he had been unable to keep up with Aier's pace.

He looked at Aier with some guilt and admiration. It was unbelievable that the young man with a slender figure had such amazing endurance and explosiveness.

"Alright, let's rest for a while."

Aier smiled helplessly. This apprentice was good in every way, except for his poor physique.

If Kainal heard his thoughts, he would definitely grumble inwardly. He was a proper mage, and not all orthodox mages possessed the young man's beast-like body.

"How's the recording going?"

A warm breeze gently lifted his hair, and the young man comfortably narrowed his eyes, asking softly.

"Mentor, from Silvermoon City to the Eastern Temple and then to the Western Temple, we passed through forty-seven villages and twenty-one towns. Among them, our workshops total seven..."

The young man waved his hand dismissively, signaling Kainal to get to the point.

"Sorry, Mentor, I'm too long-winded. We've contacted a total of 31,827 civilians who have been more or less oppressed by the nobles...

Among them, 95.8% of the people are willing to support our cause, including 81,403 employees in the Sarona Alchemy Workshop and plantation. 100% of these employees are willing to support us..."

Kainal recited the data from his notepad, his expression excited.

"Not enough. If we really want to eradicate blood thistle completely, then we need more people to join us. By the way, ask Barton how things are going on his end. How many people are willing to support us?

Also, tell Barton to expand the scope of the publicity, without avoiding those nobles."

"But if those nobles find out about our plan..."

Patting the high-level mage with tightly furrowed brows, Aier said softly:

"With Quel'Thalas's huge population base, do you think those nobles, who are even more cunning than Gilnean snow foxes, wouldn't know about our blatant inquiries and investigations?

There must be spies and hidden agents of the nobles among these hundreds of thousands of civilians, but you must remember that our cause is just! Even if those nobles have many conspiracies and tricks, they will eventually be drowned in the ocean of the people!"

Kainal looked at the young man bathed in the breeze with an excited expression, his heart filled with motivation.

Three days later.

"How is it? Have all the civilians who can be notified in all the towns and villages been notified?"

"All have been notified, Mentor. This evening, all the civilians in the entire North Eversong Woods will be divided into seven areas, and at nightfall, they will set fire to the blood thistle plantations of the seven great nobles!"

Kainal's eyes shone, his expression excited, and a surge of enthusiasm kept rushing through him.

Seeing his apprentice's excitement, Aier only sighed silently.

"Let me give you a lesson, Kainal. People's hearts are always the most terrifying and unpredictable things.

Sincerity will never always be reciprocated. Doing good is never about universal love, but about strong measures and strategies...

Don't easily believe anyone's promises, especially those of the cowardly and ignorant civilians."

The young man patted Kainal's shoulder, saying meaningfully.

"You mean, those civilians..."

Hearing the young man's words, Kainal's body stiffened for a moment, but he still asked with a forced smile.

"Do you know why I didn't let the more than 80,000 employees of the Sarona Alchemy Workshop gather together but ordered them to stand by?

Everything that happens tonight will give you a profound lesson. Fortunately, this lesson is essential for you, and it may allow you to grow quickly."

Kainal froze in place, his originally fiery heart cooling down instantly. The high-level mage shook his head unconsciously, as if only in this way could he dispel the ice in his heart.

......

At nightfall, Aier and Kainal stood in the air, silently watching the plantations below that stretched into a single area. This was a 'cleared' area that had been designated in advance, but the originally bustling blood thistle plantation was now eerily quiet.

"Mentor, did you already know... that those civilians wouldn't come?"

Facing the cool night breeze, Kainal said bitterly.

"Don't be superstitious about divination. Of course, I'm not questioning Ms. Solarian's business abilities."

Aier chuckled at the not-so-funny joke. When he saw Kainal's serious face, he continued:

"I'm just guessing people's hearts with the worst-case scenario in mind."

"I see..."

The hazy night could not hide the loneliness on the high-level mage's face. The young man didn't say much, but pointed to a village a few kilometers away.

"See that? That village, have you noticed anything strange?"

Following the direction of Aier's finger, Kainal carefully observed everything in the village. In order to answer this seemingly simple question from his mentor, the young high-level mage even used the very unfamiliar Eagle Eye spell.

After a long time, Kainal hesitated and said:

"It's just evening, even if those civilians go back on their promises to us, they shouldn't have not even a single light on, right?"

"Bingo, correct answer. Use your brain and think carefully, why don't those civilians light their lamps?"

The young man snapped his fingers, a faint smile on the corner of his mouth. Although he was smiling, Kainal clearly saw mockery and helplessness.

"They... are afraid?"

Kainal's brain raced, and soon, a vivid drama appeared in his mind.

The civilians were excitedly preparing to respond to the call of the 'Father of Warts' and burn those evil blood thistle plantations, letting the noble lords taste the anger of the peasants.

But the good times didn't last long. Someone leaked the news, and the evil slaves raised by the nobles rushed into the village. They destroyed everything they could see, not even sparing the elderly or infants in swaddling clothes.

After rampaging, the evil slaves left with satisfaction, saying harshly:

'Anyone who dares to help the Sarona family is going against all the noble lords! We can't do anything to the Sarona family, but you damned commoners will one day be completely crushed by the ruthless anger of * * XX...

Think carefully, who is your real master? Even if not for yourselves, you must consider your wives, children, and parents, right?'

After saying these words, the evil slaves left triumphantly.

The civilians hugged the corpses of their relatives with ashen faces and wept bitterly. They were afraid, they retreated...

They decided not to respond to Mentor Aier, who had given them a better life not long ago, and instead became shrinking turtles, cowering in their huts.

After understanding all this, Kainal's originally icy heart became hot again. His eyes turned red and his face became ferocious.

"Mentor! It doesn't matter if these civilians don't participate. The two of us are enough to take care of those nobles..."

"Alright, stop talking nonsense. With your wisdom, you can't possibly not know the meaning of what I'm doing. If I wanted to destroy those nobles, I could do it with a flick of my finger.

But what about the result? Have you thought about what the result would be? Quel'Thalas is like a giant, and the nobles are essential organs on the giant's body. Without these organs, even the strongest giant will die.

Do you know how many nobles control important positions in Quel'Thalas? From flight controllers to well guardians and magic net observers, there are nobles of all sizes controlling them.

Imagine, if the entire noble class of Quel'Thalas evaporated overnight, what would our ending be? The border army would be without command, the Sunwell would be unguarded, traffic would be paralyzed, and Archmage Anasterian's decrees would not be implemented. At that time, bandits would be rampant, and rune stones would be seized by greedy mages..."

The more Kainal listened, the more uncomfortable he felt. He understood these principles, but the fire in his heart could not be extinguished for a long time.

"Then we... can only give up?"

"Hehe, who do you think I am?

Continue handing out leaflets tomorrow, telling these civilians that the plan will be postponed by one day and will proceed as usual!"

The young man said decisively, his substantial aura shocking Kainal.

Hearing the young man's words, Kainal was momentarily dazed. Yes, wasn't he being too pessimistic? The person in front of him was his mentor, Aier Sarona!

"I understand, Mentor!"

Kainal didn't ask why the young man wanted to do this, or what the meaning of doing this was?

But he knew that as long as it was something the mentor wanted to do, he would definitely be able to do it!
