Azeroth Monster Manual

#177 - Wilfred's Secret

“There's one last clue. Well, although the mentor always emphasizes that this is a decryption game, I still prefer to call it a test or a trial.

And next, we will present to you the last trial that Mr. Wilfred experienced in the illusion.”

With a wave of Kael'thas's wand, the paused 'movie' started playing again.

Everyone held their breath and stared at the light curtain behind His Highness the Prince. Even Wilfred, who was sitting on the ground, stood up at some point, looking complexly at 'himself' in the illusion.

… …

In the light curtain, the sun was shining brightly, and the sky was clear.

The gnome mage came to the river, full of vigilance. What appeared in front of him was a metal bridge spanning the riverbank. He carefully observed the surrounding environment first, and after finding nothing unusual, he cautiously walked onto the bridge.

When he walked across the metal bridge, he thought he would get the next clue, but nothing happened.

He wanted to continue forward along the path, but was surprised to find that the path that had been guiding him from beginning to end had disappeared. In front of him was an endless desolate scene… …

The clever gnome only pondered for a moment before suddenly realizing.

“It seems that I haven’t gotten the clue on this bridge yet. Maybe… this bridge is the last level (clue)?”

Having figured out the key, the gnome immediately returned to where he had just stepped onto the bridge, preparing to search carefully again.

In this way, Wilfred, like a nimble mouse, went back and forth on the bridge no less than dozens of times, and he did not give up exploring even the river and the bottom of the bridge.

But unfortunately, he didn't get any clues.

“Huff… Huff… Could it be that the clue is not on the bridge itself at all? Or are we all being tricked by the Brotherhood, and there is no possibility of passing the level at all?

No, no, that doesn't make sense. There must be a flaw somewhere. I must have been careless.”

The gnome panted while rubbing his messy hair. Although his face was full of fatigue, he still stood up and walked onto the metal bridge again.

… …

The winners in the conference room all looked at the gnome in the light curtain who failed again and again with complicated expressions, just like looking at themselves in the past. Although for different reasons, their methods of passing the level were no different from Wilfred's.

Kael'thas glanced at the light curtain, frowning as if he was a little dissatisfied.

“To save everyone's time, let's skip these extra scenes.”

With a wave of the magic wand, the illusion blurred for a moment, and then returned to its original state.

“Liar… The people of the Brotherhood are all liars. There are no clues at all… I want to give up, I can't do it…”

Wilfred in the light curtain had already collapsed on the bridge, muttering to himself, and was about to faint.

But the next second, this exhausted man jumped up from the ground as if he had been wound up, and walked towards the other side of the bridge again.

“No! I can't… I can't give up. I haven't completed my dream yet. I want to become the most powerful summoning master in Azeroth.

I want to make those Dalaran bastards who laughed at me have sleepless nights, and I also want to make Kelly understand that her vision is terrible, and her sissy marriage partner cannot be compared with the great Wilfred!”

… …

Everyone in the conference room stared straight at the gnome mage. Wilfred lowered his head with a flushed face, not daring to look at himself in the light curtain who was making wild claims.

Kael'thas chuckled and shook his head, smacking his lips with a wicked taste.

‘I have to say. Peeking into other people's privacy is unethical, but it's really interesting.’

The illusion in the light curtain continued…

The gnome mage trembled, cheering himself up as he walked.

The metal bridge, which was originally only ten meters long, took him more than ten minutes to walk.

Finally, he came to the end of the bridge, but at this time, Wilfred was already in a trance. Only the subtle voice from his mouth could tell that this resilient gnome had not fainted.

“Thump!”

“Ouch, who hit me?”

The severe pain made Wilfred scream. He slowly raised his head, only to find that a huge 'monster' appeared in front of him where there was nothing.

The gnome mage rubbed his forehead and took two steps back in surprise, looking at the monster's appearance.

This monster has sharp horns, a huge body, and a pair of strong and powerful wings. Its whole body is crimson, and there is actually a mouth covered with fangs on its belly.

The 'monster' let out a huge roar. With a loud bang, the originally oppressive monster actually knelt down on one knee and said something loudly to the gnome mage.

Everyone in the conference room looked in surprise at the 'monster' in the light curtain that they had never seen before. Just as they were whispering and asking each other what kind of creature it was, the light curtain behind His Highness the Prince suddenly dimmed, and after only a few seconds, it completely disappeared.

Wilfred lowered his head, trembling all over. Of course he knew what kind of creature that monster was.

After closing the light curtain, His Highness the Prince took a deep breath, then looked solemnly at the gnome mage, and said slowly:

“Congratulations, everyone. You are the well-deserved winners. The El Brother Association will open its doors for you. Next, Guild Director Barton will answer some questions about the joining process and precautions. Finally, I wish you all good luck.”

Before he finished speaking, with a burst of fragmented arcane particles scattering, His Highness the Prince and the gnome mage beside him had disappeared.

“Your Highness, what are the last two clues? You haven't… Damn, he's gone!”

“That gnome is gone too!”

“What's going on? Did he just leave us here like this?”

… …

The conference room was in a mess. The prince's actions just now were very confusing to these winners. They didn't know why he was talking so well one second and teleported away with the gnome mage the next.

Serena stared blankly at the white wall, muttering to herself:

“That monster just now was… a demon… How could it be a demon… Who is that gnome?”

“Knock knock knock…”

“Creak…”

A crisp knock sounded, followed by a grating sound of a door opening.

The noisy conference room instantly quieted down. These winners, who were just discussing excitedly, all closed their mouths and quietly looked at the door of the conference room.

“I am Barton, also the housekeeper of the Brotherhood. You can call me Director or Mr. Barton. I will arrange your next life problems. Before that, you can move freely. Three days later, gather here…”

The old butler nodded with a smile, looking very businesslike.

“Will. Heavyfist and Serena. Sunshadow, please step forward. The others can be dismissed first. You two stay.”

The tauren pointed to himself in surprise. With the old butler's nod, the big guy stood up shyly.

Martina excitedly patted Will's horns, chattering non-stop.

Serena waited until everyone had left before silently walking to Barton.
