Azeroth Monster Manual

#201 - Metri and Aluneth

Meteley, a Highborne active in the ancient Night Elf Empire, was first mentioned to El by the talkative elemental Aluneth in fragmented words.

Secondly, El learned about him in his youth from the scandalous and absurd novel "The Secrets of the Titans", but it was only a signature.

In short, the name Meteley was unfamiliar to El.

But when the nearly dissipating ghost said his name was Meteley, El finally felt compassion.

He knew what would happen if he allowed the soul of this hero to go to that turbulent place, so he decisively used the little shadow magic left in his body to make Meteley's soul into a soul crystal.

And in Meteley's story, El finally understood that sealed past.

Speaking of Meteley, Aluneth must be mentioned.

Aluneth, it is not easy to master its power. Those mediocre and ordinary mages, even if they possess Aluneth, cannot control its arrogance and unruliness, and may even be destroyed by it.

In Azeroth, Aluneth has only recognized two archmages as its masters...

One is Meteley, and the other is the Guardian Aegwynn.

Tens of thousands of years before the Burning Legion invaded Azeroth, the blue dragons, as magic guardians, were cheerful and optimistic. In addition to fulfilling the duties given to them by the Titans to supervise the magic on the earth, they also liked to explore and study arcane magic on their own.

When the blue dragons manipulated magic in the material world (Azeroth) and distorted space, they accidentally discovered another world plane.

Here they encountered this strange arcane entity: Aluneth. The blue dragons, who were keen on exploring and excavating, were ecstatic about the existence of Aluneth and became increasingly obsessed.

The blue dragons brought Aluneth out of that world plane and summoned it to the world of Azeroth.

Aluneth descended to the Nexus, the blue dragon's residence, and the arrogant arcane entity seemed dissatisfied with this strange place.

It rampaged wildly, releasing its arcane energy, and many secret books and artifacts in the Nexus were destroyed by it.

The blue dragons, with their curiosity greatly increased, were not furious about this, but found this willful arcane entity very interesting.

The blue dragons spent a lot of time studying Aluneth, but they never harmed it. Their experiments and tests did not cause any damage to Aluneth. As the blue dragons were satisfied, this arcane entity finally returned to its world plane.

Highborne Meteley, one of the most outstanding wizards (one of) during the heyday of the ancient Night Elf Empire.

The outstanding wizard traveled around, exploring ancient Kalimdor, seeking those unknown areas. During the journey, after he befriended a blue dragon, Meteley learned about the existence of Aluneth and the world it inhabited.

Because Aluneth itself was too powerful to be controlled, the wizard did not forcibly enslave this arcane entity. Meteley discovered a feasible method: extracting energy from it to cast spells or strengthen spells.

When the War of the Ancients broke out, most of the Highborne mages stood on the side of Queen Azshara and the Burning Legion. Meteley chose to join the Kaldorei Resistance Army to stop the Burning Legion from invading and fight to protect his world!

Every battle was almost a desperate situation. Aluneth cooperated intentionally or unintentionally, making Meteley turn danger into safety every time. It seemed that Aluneth was very interested in Meteley's ups and downs, or rather, it was happy to watch Meteley's fate.

However, at least the willful Aluneth really saved the wizard every time, which is an indisputable fact.

The tempering in the war made Meteley more and more proficient in connecting with Aluneth. Interestingly, Aluneth didn't seem to resist the wizard as much as it did at the beginning, and the two gradually formed a tacit understanding in battle.

This also enabled Meteley to become a truly great mage. The truly powerful mages do not lie in how powerful their magic is, but in when they should manipulate magic to destroy evil and when they should save the common people.

After the war, the Kaldorei forbade the use of arcane magic. The Night Elf regime, led by Malfurion, believed that arcane magic was extremely dangerous and could even lead to a second disaster.

Meteley could not accept this approach, and he could not give up Aluneth and Aluneth's power. Abandoning arcane magic meant separating him from Aluneth in two worlds and no longer contacting each other.

Whether out of timidity or inferiority, Meteley quietly moved away from the civilization of the elves and lived in seclusion alone.

Although the wizard's whereabouts are unknown, he left behind a large number of books and scrolls, which recorded many of the spells he created.

Over the millennia, many mages have continued to absorb the knowledge and spells left by Meteley, but no one has discovered the existence of Aluneth - this most important bond in the wizard's life has almost been forgotten.

These are Meteley's past. When El asked him why he died, Meteley said:

After leaving the mainstream Night Elf society, he began a life of seclusion, and then began his old business again, traveling the divided Azeroth, and this was also the last time he walked towards his end.

Meteley learned about the secret of the Hakkari trolls - summoning Hakkar the Soulflayer - during his travels five thousand years ago.

Because of his curiosity, under the bewitchment and matchmaking of Aluneth, Meteley finally contacted Hakkar, who was far away in another world, and responded to Hakkar's reverse summoning, preparing to travel to a new world.

But the result can be imagined. Hakkar is not a so-called good man or woman, and naturally will not let go of the food that is sent to him. After a fierce battle, Aluneth abandoned his master and left this strange world.

And the pathetic Meteley failed to die under the iron hooves of the Burning Legion, but became food for the Soulflayer.

Even more pathetic is that Hakkar not only devoured his flesh, but also tortured his soul from time to time for more than 5,000 years, making him suffer and almost obliterating his last sanity.

In these 5,000 years of torment, his mind has been reviewing his past. The past events are like slides flashing in his mind, and the one thing that makes him most concerned and most regretful has become an opportunity for him to retain his sanity.

Kur'talos Ravencrest, a Night Elf nobleman, is not only the leader of Black Rook Hold, but also Meteley's only good friend. They grew up together, studied magic together, and were both conferred as important ministers of Queen Azshara.

Although Kur'talos is a staunch royalist, he has always been committed to eliminating the Burning Legion. He believes that the Queen is only being bewitched by others.

But Meteley resolutely left Val'sharah despite his friend's request and joined the Kaldorei Resistance Army.

Kur'talos is absolutely loyal to Queen Azshara and never believes that she is involved with the Burning Legion. In fact, every time he leads the Night Elf army to fight against the demons, he uses the Queen's name as a battle cry.

Ironically, the result was that Azshara ordered her deputy, Captain Varo'then, to get rid of Kur'talos.

Azshara, who had already joined Sargeras, was very angry at the Night Elf army's resistance to the Legion, because they dispersed the Legion's forces and delayed Sargeras's arrival in Azeroth.

Eager to please the Queen, Varo'then sent a soldier to the front line. In this way, the assassin pierced Kur'talos's neck from behind, and the Lord of Black Rook Hold died.

Meteley, who was fighting on the front line, was heartbroken when he suddenly heard the news of his friend's assassination. From then on, Meteley has always blamed Kur'talos's death on himself.

He believes that if he had not left regardless of the persuasion, his friend would not have been assassinated by a small soldier. In addition, the fall of Black Rook Hold, these two things once became his knot.

El listened to Meteley's narration in the soul stone, and couldn't help but sigh.
