#68 - We are here to fulfill a sacred mission.
Chapter 68: Our Arrival is to Fulfill a Sacred Mission
Kainel painstakingly dragged the gryphon Skarre into the cockpit of the Zero. Although he had already cast three levitation spells on this 'little guy,' its weight of 5 tons still gave him a lot of trouble.
"Huff... huff, those two bastards ran fast. If it weren't for carrying out Instructor El's mission, I would have to..."
The gasping high-level mage made a rude gesture fiercely, then slowly closed the cockpit.
...
"Hermit, it's been a hundred years. I didn't expect your strength to have improved to this point?"
Kurdan's face was swollen high, but he didn't show any anger. Instead, he praised sincerely from the bottom of his heart.
Dwarves are such a magical race. They are warm, forthright, love to drink, and worship the strong. They treat their friends with all their heart and lungs, but treat their enemies as coldly as winter.
"Haha, this old bone of mine has met a benefactor. This is a long story. Let's talk about how you've been doing lately."
Hermit said here, and clearly felt that Kurdan beside him became a little melancholy.
"What's wrong? My friend?"
Hermit showed a sly smile at the corner of his mouth, knowingly asking.
"Since Grim Batol was corrupted, King Khardros Wildhammer led us to the Hinterlands and established Aerie Peak.
We have lived and worked here in peace for more than two hundred years, but we have also suffered from the invasion of trolls. 100 years ago, I led my people to Ironforge to seek the assistance of King Magni Bronzebeard, but he still... refused."
Kurdan no longer had the cheerfulness he had just now. He spoke of his experiences over the years with a complex emotion of sorrow and resentment.
"Sorry... I"
Hermit was about to comfort his companion when he was interrupted by Kurdan's long sigh.
"It's not your fault, my friend. Although the relationship between our two clans is not as hostile as that with the Dark Iron clan, the paths of the Wildhammer and Bronzebeard have always been getting farther and farther..."
Hermit silently patted Kurdan's shoulder. He, a rough man, had always been ignorant of politics. His muscular brain didn't understand why the dwarves, who were originally as close as a family, had to split up, but this did not affect his relationship with Kurdan.
"Those trolls..."
"Those trolls are like bloodthirsty jackals. They plunder our food and women and children. In the past hundred years, the population of our clan has always been declining. Every time I wake up in the middle of the night, I can't wait to set those damn maggots on fire!"
Speaking of trolls, Kurdan's expression became a little ferocious. The old dwarf heard a strong hatred and unwillingness in his tone.
"We purchased a batch of gnome engineering tanks from Gnomeregan, but these big guys are just a drop in the bucket for the ravenous and prolific Revantusk trolls and Witherbark trolls...
Forget it, let's not talk about these. Hermit, what are you doing at Aerie Peak? I don't think you're just here to visit an old friend, right?"
Hearing this, Hermit knew that the moment to show his value had come. He said in a slightly seductive and flattering tone.
"Have you heard of Amway? Bah, I mean, have you heard of Saronar Alchemy Workshop?"
...
The two of them walked and talked like this, and Kainel manipulated the Zero to follow closely behind, and soon came to Aerie Peak.
Kurdan dismissed those fully armed Wildhammer guards and led the group to his palace, Wildhammer Stronghold.
Kainel handed Skarre over to a few red-haired and red-bearded Wildhammer dwarves and then jumped out of the hatch.
What came into his eyes was a huge hill, or it would be more appropriate to describe it as a mountain peak. This towering mountain peak was layered on top of each other. Every few hundred meters, there was a majestic castle on the mountainside. There were more than 20 such castles.
At the foot of the mountain were dense dwellings and bunkers. The bunkers had a peculiar style, with only an oval roof exposed, while the rest of the bunker was buried deep underground. This structure may have been designed to allow the Wildhammer people to evacuate in time before the trolls invaded Aerie Peak.
The three walked on a rugged path and soon came to the top of the peak.
"This is simply... simply a masterpiece bestowed by heaven."
Kainel murmured to himself, looking at the hollowed-out mountain top in front of him.
No wonder the elf was so surprised. Having seen the exquisite buildings of the elves full of artistic atmosphere, seeing such a magnificent Wildhammer Stronghold for the first time, which was like a masterpiece of nature, brought him a great visual impact.
"Hahaha, elf, your vision and your strength are very strong."
Kurdan laughed heartily and led the two behind him into his castle.
"You are... Hermit?"
A slightly serious voice came from the reception room. Hermit looked up and realized that it was his old acquaintance from 100 years ago - Falstad Wildhammer.
"Ha, old antique Falstad, we haven't seen each other for 100 years, right? I didn't expect your body to be so strong."
Falstad Wildhammer, one of the only two leaders of the Wildhammer clan. Kurdan is the current leader of the Wildhammer, and Falstad's position is High Thane. Although he is the High Thane, he does not have his own fiefdom. In the complex land of the Hinterlands, he has always been conscientious and assisted the quirky Kurdan.
The two hugged for a moment and sat down.
"Hermit, what are you doing here?"
Falstad was several decades older than Hermit and was considered the real elder among the group, except for Kainel Sunblaze, who was 250 years old.
"Our arrival is to fulfill a sacred mission..."
The originally relaxed atmosphere became a little dull, and the two leaders of the Wildhammer put away the smiles on their faces.
"Stop beating around the bush, Hermit"
Although Kurdan was the leader, his temperament was not as calm as Lord Falstad.
"Then I'll be straight to the point, we will lead the Wildhammer clan to win the war against the Woodpaw and Revantusk trolls."
As soon as these words came out, the whole place was silent.
