Billionaire's Gift
Chapter 842 Make Friends
"There's this saying, kid. I wonder if you've heard it..." Now that Eve was drunk and lonely, she didn't really mind talking to Chauncey.
"What saying?" Chauncey asked with a bright smile.
"Curiosity killed the cat," Eve sneered. Her red lips curled into a smile, revealing two rows of perfect teeth.
"But Miss, I'm not a cat," Chauncey ridiculed her with a straight face.
He had only fallen in love once, but because he had a handsome face, people assumed he was some sort of play boy. But he was used to their misunderstandings. People, after all, believed what they wanted to believe. To clarify or give an explanation was only a waste of energy. One time, people had even spread rumors about him being gay. Now he had learnt not to pay any heed.
Eve's expression was cold. Her lips were slightly open. Her breath was now mingled with the smell of alcohol. "Why...why are you so annoying? What do you want?" she asked, inebriated to the extent that her words sounded distorted.
Chauncey smiled mischievously. "Everyone who comes here is lonely. Why not make friends with me?"
"Why should I make friends with you? Who the hell are you even? And excuse me, but you are the one who is lonely, not me..." Eve was pissed. She was so angry her body was shaking. Even though she was trying to put up a strong front, she was secretly annoyed that a stranger had read her mind so easily.
"If you are willing to make friends with me, I'd excuse what you said before." Chauncey was not angry at all. Instead, he squinted his eyes and studied Eve carefully. Under the dim light and due to the effect of the alcohol, Eve's face look flushed. She looked rather cute.
'She has such a cute face. Why is she dressed up so formally?' Chauncey wondered. He imagined her in colorful clothes. He thought she would look lovely in them.
Eve rolled her eyes helplessly. She wasn't interested in making any new friends, especially tonight. "Who
ly?" With a disdainful look, Eve smiled coldly at him. She was strong enough to protect herself. She didn't believe anything could happen to her here. She had been coming to this bar quite frequently and knew the area to be safe.
Her lips were straight, but her eyes seemed to be smiling. "Don't you know?" Chauncey asked, raising his eyebrow. "The bar has all kinds of people," he added, attempting to scare her.
Eve glanced at him faintly, looking him up and down. A smile played at the corners of her mouth. In a mocking tone, she asked, "And which kind do you belong to? The good or the bad?"
"The good kind, of course!" Chauncey declared, raising his chin slightly, like he was proud of his answer.
As more alcohol flowed in her bloodstream Eve started to feel dizzy. She rubbed her temples hard and knocked her head with the back of her hand from time to time in order to sober herself up.
However, when she thought about the quarrel she had had with Nathan, her face started to burn. Drowsily, she looked at Chauncey, feigning confusion.
"This world… is full of single, lonely people, and you are one of them, kid. My guess is the girl you like doesn't like you back." Eve narrowed her eyes, raised her chin slightly, and looked at him arrogantly as if she had cracked him.
