#38 - wheat harvest
"Mom!" Wang Lan jumped up excitedly from her half-squatting position, waving her arms frantically at the figure in the distance.
Her voice was full of joy, as if this shout would convey all her longing.
As her mother, Liu Zhi, arrived at the entrance, she didn't even have time to park her bicycle before her gaze fell on the two siblings.
"You two kids, why didn't you tell us you were coming home earlier? That way, your dad and I could have prepared something!" Liu Zhi looked at the two siblings, her tone carrying a hint of complaint, but the smile on her face couldn't be concealed.
Wang Hao chuckled and scratched his head, a little embarrassed, and said, "We wanted to give you and Dad a surprise!"
Liu Zhi walked up to Wang Hao, looking him up and down with loving eyes.
"Xiao Hao, why do I feel like you've grown taller again? And you look a lot stronger too!" She reached out and gently patted Wang Hao's shoulder, feeling the changes in her son's body, her heart filled with joy.
Children are always their parents' greatest concern, even though the last time they met was during the Chinese New Year. Now, only five months later, Liu Zhi could still tell the changes in her son Wang Hao at a glance.
Hearing his mother's words, Wang Hao also laughed. He naturally understood his parents' good intentions in not telling him to come back to help in advance, so he didn't expose this well-intentioned concealment, but instead cooperated and replied, "Haha, isn't that right? Your son is very capable now! But, the real surprise is yet to come!"
Wang Hao said with a smile, "I've been working out hard these past few months, and I've gained a lot of strength. It's perfect for coming home to help carry wheat!"
Seeing this, his younger sister Wang Lan knew that her brother didn't want to say more, so she stopped mentioning it and instead turned on "praise mode," quickly chiming in, "That's right, that's right, my brother is the best!"
Liu Zhi looked at the interaction between the siblings, her smile becoming even brighter. As she opened the door, she looked at the piles of packages the two children had brought back, several of which looked quite expensive just from the packaging.
She couldn't help but frown, saying with a slightly reproachful tone, "What did you buy, wasting money on unnecessary things."
Although her tone carried a hint of dissatisfaction, she knew that these were all the children's good intentions. It was always like this every time they came home, and the couple had long been accustomed to it.
Wang Hao and his sister were naturally used to their mother's nagging, but they still felt very happy. After all, being nagged by their mother was also a rare kind of happiness!
As they walked into the house, looking at the familiar courtyard, Wang Hao couldn't help but feel emotional.
Before, every time he came home, he couldn't stay for long before being urged to leave. At that time, he always felt that an overly comfortable life meant decadence.
After chatting for a long time, seeing that it was almost time for dinner, Liu Zhi stood up and said, "I'll go cook. Xiao Lan, you call your dad and ask him why he hasn't come back yet. Didn't he say to come back later?"
With that, she was about to get up and go to the kitchen to cook. However, before Wang Lan could dial the phone, her mother's phone suddenly rang.
"Hey, Mom, a truck has come to the field! Quickly bring over our sacks and that oilcloth! We're second in line, it'll be our turn soon!" Wang Hao's father, Wang Lin's, anxious voice came from the phone, his tone full of urging.
"Okay, okay, we'll be right there!" Liu Zhi quickly agreed.
Seeing his mother hang up the phone, Wang Hao quickly made a decision: "Mom, I'll ride my bike over to bring the stuff first. You guys prepare something to eat at home, and then have Dad come back to drive the tricycle and take you over. I guess we'll be busy until tonight!"
Wang Hao had a wealth of experience in this kind of thing, plus his strengthened body, he had plenty of strength and could easily handle it.
Hearing her son's reasonable arrangement, his mother Liu Zhi nodded subconsciously. Originally, she wanted to leave the two children at home, but when she saw her son's firm expression and tone, she didn't say anything more.
The children had come back, and if she didn't let them work, they certainly wouldn't be happy.
So, the three of them tied all the tools they would need to the bicycle, and Wang Hao pedaled hard, speeding towards his family's field.
Wang Hao's family's field wasn't too far from their home. Before long, Wang Hao arrived at his destination on his bike.
Wang Hao still remembered vividly that when he was a child, when he went to the fields to pull weeds, because he didn't have a bicycle at the time, he could only walk there, and at that time, he always felt that the road was extremely far.
But now, looking at it again, it was actually just a small stretch of road, very close.
When he was a child, he felt that going to the fields to pull weeds was simply the end of the world, but now, looking back, what he once thought was the sky falling was just that he hadn't walked that road yet, as the saying goes, the light boat has passed ten thousand mountains.
Arriving at the field, Wang Hao saw at a glance the slightly thin figure among the group of people standing at the edge of the field.
"Dad!" Wang Hao shouted at the top of his lungs, but the sound of the harvester was too loud, and he had to raise his voice. The thin figure heard the sound and turned around, and a bright smile immediately bloomed on his originally wrinkled face.
Walking closer, his father, Wang Lin, didn't say much, but directly started unloading the items from the bicycle and began to organize and arrange them. Fatherly love is always so silent, but Wang Hao could deeply feel this profound emotion.
The father and son had a tacit understanding and began to discuss the next course of action. Wang Hao, according to the original plan, had his father ride the tricycle home to pick up his mother and sister to come together, and also needed to bring some tools needed to load the wheat.
Wang Hao was responsible for contacting the person in charge of the harvester and jointly discussing the subsequent harvesting matters.
Fortunately, there were also vehicles dedicated to transporting wheat working with the harvester, and only a certain fee needed to be paid. This way, Wang Hao didn't need to find someone to borrow a car, avoiding owing others favors. This arrangement made him feel a lot easier.
