#169 - Blood Nest

Three days later... the Blood Nest.

This was an enormous mountain, encased in layers of ice rock like all the mountains of Rotuska. However, it wasn't a mountain range, just a solitary hill rising on the horizon, looking like a giant egg that had cracked out of the earth. Around this 'giant egg,' the hard, permafrost ground was riddled with countless cracks, so deep that their bottoms couldn't be seen.

In fact, there wasn't just one Blood Nest, but countless ones. These giant hills were located in various corners of the planet Rotuska, silently enduring the planet's brutal frost.

The Blood Nest was a sacred place for all Rotuskans, the place that held the origin of their lives.

Every Rotuskan, upon being born, would be brought by their parents to the nearest Blood Nest to await their first miracle in life. The Blood Nest would secrete a scarlet 'liquid,' and after this 'liquid' was smeared on their bodies, their constitution would improve, becoming even stronger than beasts. At the same time, they would gain the physical ability to resist the cold. Although this enhancement wouldn't make them immune to the cold, on this barren and brutal planet Rotuska, it was the only capital an infant had to survive.

This was the grace bestowed upon them by the gods, allowing them to bathe in the glory of the gods. From then on, they would no longer fear premature death, and mothers would shed tears amidst smiles.

The Blood Nest was also the final resting place for every Rotuskan.

When they died, their bodies would be carried by their clansmen to the foot of the Blood Nest and thrown into the bottomless cracks. They believed that this would allow them to attain eternal rest, safe from being frozen by the severe cold or devoured by beasts. And their tribe would thus be more closely watched by the gods, weathering disaster after disaster under the protection of the souls of their ancestors.

This was the grace bestowed upon them by the gods, allowing them to sleep at the feet of the gods. From then on, they would no longer fear the severe cold, and would be far from pain and fatigue.

No one understood the significance of the Blood Nest to the Rotuskans. But without a doubt, 'sacred' was not enough to describe it. These giant hills that appeared all over the planet Rotuska were the faith of every single person.

In fact, it was also faith in the gods.

Today, a drastic change was taking place at the edge of the largest Blood Nest on Rotuska. Visible earthquakes were occurring on the permafrost ground, which spanned thousands of square kilometers around the giant mountain. Countless egg-shaped mounds rose from underground, then grew spider-like vein structures.

These vein structures were frozen by Rotuska's severe cold as soon as they appeared. But more continued to grow behind them, quickly covering the ones in front. Layer upon layer, they formed giant, purplish-red carpets on the ground. And in the middle of the carpet was that egg-shaped mound.

If someone were looking down from above at this moment, they would discover that these mounds were extremely similar to the Blood Nest, only countless times smaller.

The mounds became more and more numerous, more and more dense, soon covering the permafrost ground spanning thousands of square kilometers. As more vein structures grew, the first mound suddenly burst open, splashing out purplish-red 'liquid.'

Dozens of men with their eyes tightly closed rolled out...

Following that, the mounds burst open one after another, with several Rotuskans rolling out of each mound. The first men to appear gradually woke up and began to smear a special 'liquid' on the noses of the others to speed up their awakening... One helping another, in just half an hour, the entire plain was crowded with people.

These people were dressed very simply, shivering in the cold wind, but their gazes toward the Blood Nest were filled with fanaticism. No one knew who was the first to kneel, but then everyone knelt down one by one, performing the prostration ritual towards the Blood Nest.

After doing this three times in a row, the leading man stood up and said to the people beside him.

"Today is the day of our duel with the Hans tribe. It is our honor to dedicate everything to our Lord in this sacred place. Go and prepare immediately. There must be no mistakes."

"Yes!" the others responded, then ran towards the Blood Nest not far away.

There were many young people doing the same thing as him. From a distance, they looked like ants approaching the Blood Nest. Holding simple tools, they climbed up the hill and forcefully chipped away at the ice rock. As debris splashed, some of them would fall down exhausted from time to time, but even more people would climb up...

Through their efforts, the surface ice rock of this giant Blood Nest was gradually peeled away, slowly revealing the main body inside.

It was actually a super-giant egg covered with countless veins. Under the sunlight, it radiated a scarlet luster.

At the same time, on a hill hundreds of kilometers away from the super-giant egg, an old man was watching everything. Beside him, hundreds of men wearing simple leather armor stood with their hands at their sides. Each person exuded a fierce aura. Among them, several men were especially ferocious, with an aura almost like beasts.

The old man was Elder Cass.

Looking at the Blood Nest that was gradually revealing its main body, his eyes also revealed a fanatical light. But it quickly calmed down. He turned his head and said to the warriors beside him.

"This is a divine war. Are you ready?"

"Yes, Elder. We are ready to dedicate everything to our Lord at any time. Today, that false god will definitely pay the price!" a ferocious warrior replied, licking his lips at the same time. On his face, a huge scar ran from top to bottom, almost tearing him apart. He looked extremely fierce.

Behind him, hundreds of warriors also burst out with fiery fighting spirit. Those pairs of fanatical eyes were like preparing for a sacrifice to the gods.

Even if they would also die in this sacrifice.

Elder Cass looked at all of this with satisfaction. Then he nodded. He extended a finger. "Only one hundred people."

"Only one hundred people can gain the honor of following our Lord into the battlefield. Before you become true divine warriors, this is the only chance. Only one hundred people!!"

"Awoo!!" The warriors howled wildly. Their fighting spirit became even more fiery. And with excitement, their eyes gradually became bloodshot, and their breathing became heavy.

In fact, they had already conducted an internal selection for this duel. These warriors were the best of the best selected. But the number still exceeded one hundred, which was enough to show how strong the Cass tribe was. But no matter what, only one hundred people could enter the battlefield today.

This was the rule of the gods, unchangeable!

However, Elder Cass would not let them kill each other here. These warriors were all sacrifices dedicated to the gods. He couldn't bear to. So he quickly pointed out one hundred warriors, then led these warriors towards the Blood Nest.

At this moment, the Blood Nest had been completely exposed by tens of thousands of 'worker ants' peeling it away. A huge hole could be seen at the bottom of its main body, with scarlet blood plasma flowing out from the middle, then falling like a waterfall into the bottomless fissure below. The sound of rushing water could be heard from afar.

The air was filled with the smell of blood, and everyone couldn't help but take a breath.

This was mother's blood, the thing that had been smeared on them since birth. It was too close to them.

Elder Cass walked to the bottom of the Blood Nest, took out his cane, and placed it together with Elder Hans' cane into a specific groove below. Immediately afterwards, a huge change occurred.

Only the sound of rumbling could be heard under his feet, and the Blood Nest actually began to squirm at a high frequency. In everyone's eyes, little by little, it began to crack open from above...

The giant Blood Nest was like a flower gradually blooming, splitting into eight petals from the middle.

Those who didn't see it with their own eyes would find it difficult to describe the shock. It was like watching a mountain collapsing and the earth tearing apart. A violent tremor came from the permafrost ground under their feet, making it almost impossible to stand still. But everyone was not nervous, but revealed a fanatical color, watching the Blood Nest complete this earth-shattering change.

The whole process took a full half an hour, and a mountain-sized Blood Nest expanded, revealing the wide space inside. At the same time, a huge portal appeared in front of Elder Cass.

The ground inside the Blood Nest was somewhat soft, like flesh tissue. But it soon began to harden. Steps appeared based on the cracked shell. Elder Cass walked to one side of the steps with a pilgrimage mood. Behind him were thousands of tribal warriors.

They came relatively early and needed to wait for a while. But this time was not long. Elder Cass felt a slight tremor coming from outside, and many elders led their respective tribal warriors into the arena.

They were all elders from other tribes who came here to witness this divine war. So after arriving, they greeted Elder Cass and went to their respective positions.

As time passed, more and more elders entered the arena. But Elder Hans' shadow was never seen. Elder Cass gradually became anxious. His brows also furrowed tighter and tighter. If he didn't believe in Elder Hans' will, he would have almost thought that the other party had fled the battle. But Elder Cass knew that this was impossible. The duel was initiated by the other party. If Elder Hans fled the battle, then he wouldn't want to live on Rotuska. He himself and his tribe would be attacked by the crowd for blaspheming the gods.

The long wait was anxious, and as the time of the duel approached, the atmosphere in the arena gradually became heavy.

Finally, when the Blood Nest was almost filled with people, Elder Hans' shadow finally appeared at the entrance.

He led a hundred warriors into the arena. He came to the opposite of Elder Cass with a calm expression.

"I thought you wouldn't dare to come," Elder Cass said coldly, his eyes full of disdain.

"The glory of our Lord needs me to defend it. How could I not come?" Elder Hans retorted tit-for-tat. His expression was extremely calm.

Elder Cass was unwilling to argue verbally, so he waved his hand impatiently. "Since you're here, let's start. My warriors are already looking forward to tasting victory."

"On the contrary, victory is looking forward to us," Elder Hans smiled slightly and walked up the opposite steps. (To be continued. If you like this work, you are welcome to come to (.) to vote for recommendations and monthly tickets. Your support is my greatest motivation.)
