Colonial Suit
#268 - Eyes in the smoke
Darkness, spreading like a plague...
The entire Soft Cloud Star was gradually losing its light. Machines stopped running, and lights gradually went out. Several of the most critical energy collection stations were sounding alarms.
"What's going on?" asked an elderly man, seemingly a manager, at Soft Cloud Star's seventy-second energy collection station. Before him were rows of glaring red lights.
"We don't know, Station Chief York. Our void energy collectors seem to be malfunctioning. All the energy is starting to 'leak'."
"That's impossible! These collectors are the best, high-quality products just transferred from Aivin Star. How could they malfunction? They can run for five hundred years! Five hundred years!!" The old man flew into a rage, wishing he could drown his subordinate in spittle.
"But Station Chief, look..." The subordinate didn't argue, simply stepping aside.
Through the window behind him, a massive bowl-shaped object could be clearly seen slowly rotating in space. That was the void energy collector. But unlike before, at the bottom of the collector, where energy should have been gathering, thousands of torrents of energy were slowly leaking. They broke free from the collector's restraints, like long dragons escaping their confines, drifting towards a specific direction... but nothing could be seen there due to the darkness.
"My God..." York gaped. "What exactly is in that direction?"
The same situation was happening in many places. At that moment, the energy of the entire Soft Cloud Star was slowly flowing. But under the cover of darkness, not many people noticed.
No, it couldn't be said that there were no signs at all. At least one place on the entire Soft Cloud Star was undergoing the most obvious change.
Sangjay Grand Hotel.
At that moment, the dance floor was already in complete chaos. People screamed in terror in the darkness, almost leading to tragedy. Fortunately, the hotel's security was decent, and the timely appearance of waiters barely managed to maintain order.
Even so, chaos and screams continued to erupt. The usually noble and elegant upper-class individuals had their elegant facades stripped away, looking no different from frightened chickens.
And what caused all of this wasn't just the darkness, but the countless bolts of lightning that suddenly appeared in the air.
These lightning bolts darted through the air like vipers, as dense as rain. The entire space above the dance floor was occupied by them, so close that it seemed like they could be touched with a hand. No one knew when they had appeared, but that didn't stop them from sensing the terrifying energy contained within the lightning.
"Those are Void Purple Lightning..." A gentleman specializing in energy studies was dumbfounded. "Such a large quantity, such a dense concentration. How much energy has gathered here!"
"Oh God, we're going to be killed! We're going to be killed!" A girl huddled in a corner, trembling. Her face was streaked with tears.
"No, don't come over. I don't want to die!"
"Damn it, what is this? It's getting close to me. It's gone again!"
"Watch out behind you. Damn it, let's get out of here!"
The entire ballroom was in chaos, the terrifying scene like the end of the world. But in such a chaotic scene, one table remained consistently quiet. A group of guards surrounded it, like a wall blocking the pressure from others.
Beside the table, Miss Carrie was putting down a Blue Coast cocktail, reaching for a cigarette.
"Snap." The cigarette was lit, and after touching Miss Carrie's red lips, a puff of smoke rose. Within the smoke, Miss Carrie's eyes sparkled.
"Energy gathering reaction... is this hotel being used as a focusing device?"
"Hehe, this is quite a surprise. But the wonderful thing is, it allowed me to meet you." A magnetic male voice came from across the table. It was none other than Cowboy Number Five. He was leaning lazily on the sofa, with both feet on the table. His whole person was full of wildness and unruliness. Seeing this, Carrie's eyes lit up.
Compared to the noble young masters she had been entangled with, Cowboy Number Five was clearly more manly, more rugged and unrestrained, like a drop of honey deeply attracting Carrie.
The two exchanged a glance, both seeing the smile in the other's eyes. Just as they were about to say something, suddenly a bolt of Void Purple Lightning appeared between them, coiling towards Carrie's neck like a poisonous snake.
Before Carrie could react, a hand suddenly reached out from the side and grabbed the Void Purple Lightning. The Void Purple Lightning twisted once and disappeared, but the hand was scorched like charcoal.
The hand retracted, revealing a cold and indifferent face.
He glanced expressionlessly at his charred right hand, a hint of vigilance flashing in his eyes. "This place is no longer safe. Miss, we must leave."
"Oh... no, no, no... I don't think so." Cowboy Number Five wagged his finger, like a dissolute young master, with a nonchalant smile. "Look, how beautiful these Void Purple Lightning are... they're like spirits of the atmosphere, full of death and cold beauty. I believe every girl who sees it will scream for it...reaching climax at the edge of life and death. Believe me, you'll absolutely never encounter such a thrilling feeling a second time... this is a gift from nature, for me and you, Miss Carrie."
"You're right." Carrie was trembling slightly without her knowing. Strangely enough, the more dangerous the environment, the more stimulated she felt. Her adrenaline was accelerating, to the point that a trace of warmth flowed between her legs. She actually threw herself directly into Cowboy Number Five's arms...
The two quickly rolled into a ball, their clothes gradually decreasing.
Behind them, Ice's eyes flashed with disgust. "Two madmen."
He muttered to himself, but didn't disturb Carrie and Cowboy Number Five's revelry. In fact, although the current situation was dangerous, it hadn't reached the point where he was afraid. And don't forget, there were more than a dozen Meteor-level guards around him.
Even if they were quickly made products through technology, Meteor-level guards were enough to protect Carrie and the two of them.
But this was still something Ice had to care about. What he really cared about was the reason for the appearance of these Void Purple Lightning. With the intuition of a Meteor-level warrior, he was clearer than anyone else present that these Void Purple Lightning were definitely not a natural phenomenon. He could even vaguely feel the direction they were gathering. That was...
"The seventh floor of the hotel?"
Ice frowned slightly, saying to a guard beside him. "You guys stay here, I'll go up and take a look."
"But Captain..."
"That's an order."
"Yes. Understood."
Several guards revealed fearful gazes. Ice snorted disdainfully and walked towards the stairs.
Because there was no energy, the hotel's entire service system had been paralyzed. But this wasn't a problem for Ice. As he walked, he put on his armor. The thrusters on his back activated, and he crashed through the wall like a meteor, appearing in the clouds outside the hotel.
The clouds outside the hotel were dense, so dark that one couldn't see their own fingers. But in the armor's vision, everything was clearly visible. Ice directly spun in the air and flew towards the top of the hotel.
The distance to the seventh floor was instantaneous for him, but just as he rose up, an unprecedentedly powerful mental pressure came at him like a mountain. Ice immediately grunted, feeling dizzy as if he had been hit by a club.
Ice was horrified.
What was this mental pressure? Such pressure, such a threat.
What exactly was above?
In his horror, he realized that the mental pressure retreated as quickly as it came, as if it had never appeared. This made him even more curious. After only a slight hesitation, he flew upwards again.
Every warrior who reached the Meteor level possessed a powerful intuition, allowing them to seek advantages and avoid disadvantages. This was a gradually awakening primitive instinct, and also a part of evolution. Ice had never doubted his intuition. But he couldn't suppress the curiosity in his heart. Behind this strange mental pressure, it was as if something was generating a deadly attraction for him.
The design of the Sangjay Hotel was exaggerated, the surface of the stairs was covered with a golden film. Ice flew at high speed in this gorgeous gold, arriving at the edge of the seventh floor in an instant.
As soon as he arrived here, he sensed an extremely abnormal energy fluctuation. A gleam of light flashed in his eyes.
It's here...
As expected, the energy anomaly of the entire Soft Cloud Star was caused by this place.
But what exactly was hidden behind this wall that could cause a planet's energy to be depleted?
Silently, Ice felt his heart beating faster and faster, the staircase close at hand like a Pandora's box, hiding a terrifying demon inside.
But he was, after all, a warrior with strong nerves. He regained his composure with a shake, raising his right hand to break through the wall...
Suddenly...
With a loud bang, the staircase in front of Ice suddenly exploded. In an instant, the entire seventh-floor staircase of the Sangjay Hotel exploded, all the windows and walls blasted into pieces by an invisible force. Caught off guard, Ice was immediately submerged in flying debris...
But this was only the beginning. As the entire floor exploded, a shockwave spread out from the seventh floor like a blade, destroying everything in its path. Visibly to the naked eye, several of the hotel's main pillars on the seventh floor collapsed. The entire upper structure of the hotel was teetering.
No one could describe that terrifying power. In Ice's eyes, the entire Sangjay Hotel was as if it had been cut in half by an invisible blade. Centered on the seventh floor, it was divided into two sections.
Not good!!
Under the shock, Ice desperately charged forward without even thinking. He had to stop this. Otherwise, it would be a terrible disaster when the upper structure of the hotel collapsed.
But just as he broke through the layer of debris, the scene before him caused him to gape in astonishment.
The entire seventh floor of the hotel was in a state of devastation, with a huge space blown out by the shockwave. And in the very center of this space, a terrifying dark figure was slowly standing up.
In the smoke and debris, Ice only saw a pair of eyes.
As red as blood, like the eyes of a demon.
