Colonial Suit

#873 - Toxic City

The journey that followed was somewhat dull, merely a series of plunders according to the mission objectives. By the time everything was completed, another half-month had passed.

The Shuttle was fully loaded with spoils, and began its return to Van Xerxes.

A month of continuous combat had left everyone a little weary. Everyone hoped to return to Van Xerxes as soon as possible for a good rest. The Shuttle had a complete ecological cycle system, so showering was not a problem, but entertainment was lacking. And indulgence after stress was exactly what space mercenaries couldn't do without.

"Beep beep."

Just as everyone was starting to return, the communicator in the bridge rang. After a mercenary answered for a while, an unexpected look appeared on his face.

"Your Highness Brut." He stood up and reported to Brut. "Your Highness Bass sent instructions, requesting that we do not return, but go directly to the next coordinate point to deliver the goods."

"Oh?" Brut was sitting in the captain's seat, savoring rum. He rolled his eyes when he heard the news. "Damn it, another continuous mission? Can't they let us rest for a few days?"

"Yeah, yeah. The recent missions have been too boring, with no challenge at all. I miss my Xiao Mili." A mercenary echoed not far away. "Her snow-white skin, curved horns, and cute tail. They all fascinate me."

"Get lost, Seldo, you're such a beast, you can even lay your hands on such a young girl. And she's still an alien."

"That's right, that's right, Seldo's brain is filled with white liquid like a primitive reptile, can't he have other hobbies besides mating and fighting? You can accept any race, would you be interested in a stone with a crack?"

Seldo's words immediately drew laughter and scolding from the mercenaries. He wasn't angry, and still squinted and smiled, saying, "A stone with a crack, that's a good idea, I'll find one to try next time."

"You're a bastard!!"

The mercenaries immediately laughed. In the intervals between battles, crude jokes made it easier for them to relax. In fact, which of the mercenaries who could get here hadn't come out of a mountain of corpses and a sea of blood? Seldo's hobby was just the simplest one, and some mercenaries liked drugs and blood feasts. What did this matter?

Brut also squinted and smiled. He was familiar with this atmosphere, as if he had returned home.

We are mercenaries, the wanderers of the universe. Wherever we go, that is our home.

We are mercenaries, the spokesmen of death, wherever we go, there is war.

Don't reason with us. Don't talk to us about justice.

We are mercenaries.

Money is the reason.

Power is justice.

Dance in the flames of war, laugh loudly in death.

Because we are mercenaries.

In the lively atmosphere. Brut played with his glass, and then suddenly asked, "Did Your Highness Bass's instructions mention who we are to deliver the goods to?"

"There is no accurate information, only the location and the other party's signal were mentioned," the mercenary in charge of communication replied.

"Then forget it, let's hurry over there." Brut rubbed his brow. "The sooner we deliver the goods, the sooner we're done. It seems our lads can't wait to enjoy the enthusiasm of Van Xerxes. Fine wine and girls, blood and feasts. Are all waiting for us."

"Roar..." A chorus of wolf howls rang out in the bridge.

The teardrop-shaped Shuttle adjusted its direction in the void, then disintegrated into streaks, and flashed away...

A day later. They arrived at their destination.

A 'Void City' called Diliku.

The so-called Void City, in fact, cannot be simply regarded as a city. But should be regarded as a piece of space that has been artificially shaped. Most have a spherical transparent shield, in which an environment suitable for the inhabitants is created. The size of the Void City is not uniform, the smallest is only the size of a grain of rice, while the largest may be comparable to a gas giant. In the Second World, volume is not the standard for evaluating whether a Void City is important, location is.

Diliku obviously does not belong to the category of 'important' cities. Because it does not occupy a favorable position. There are no resources nearby, no transportation hubs, and no alien spaces suitable for expansion. It is just an ordinary sphere, floating in the cold void.

However, when the mercenaries arrived, they realized that this city was actually very good.

The main reason is. Diliku is not the common energy civilization form of the Second World, nor is it the forest of high-rise buildings familiar to humans. But an alien civilization city full of exotic colors. Under the bubble-like shield, are countless seaweed-like city veins soaked in liquid, and then 'room fruits' are grown on these seaweed.

The shapes of the fruits are inconsistent, some are similar to olives, some are similar to balls. Black sticky liquid dripped from them from time to time.

"Looks like we need to move in the liquid." Brut looked at the Diliku data flashing on the screen. Then he said to the other mercenaries. "This is a poisonous city, growing in a highly corrosive transparent liquid. Lads below the planetary level. It's best to prepare anti-corrosion armor and tas antidote for your armor. Don't blame me for not reminding you if you get dissolved."

"Understood, Your Highness Brut!" The mercenaries answered loudly. They were all veterans among mercenaries, and they had this preparation.

Soon, a fully armed squad began to leave the Shuttle, and quickly approached Diliku under the propulsion of their armor.

Brut thought for a while, got up and walked out of the bridge.

He circled around the Shuttle a few times, and soon came to a small room, then knocked on the door.

"Who is it?" Blood瞳's voice came from the room, full of indifference.

"It's me." Brut touched his nose. These days, Blood瞳's feeling to him was always a little strange, as if he was full of danger and oppression, and even he, who was also at the Star level, was unwilling to contact him.

But at this time, he couldn't avoid it. He had arrived at the destination, and he needed Blood瞳's help.

The mercenary mission was sacred, and there was no reason for him to abandon Blood瞳 and complete it alone. That was disrespect to Blood瞳.

"We have arrived at our destination, do you want to go down and take a look together?"

Brut briefly explained the instructions that Bass had just sent, and then invited Blood瞳.

"Okay!" Blood瞳 also answered simply, and quickly tidied up and walked out of the room.

After not seeing him for a few days, he still looked so indifferent, but the feeling he gave was not so cold and rigid. Brut felt much better, so he and Blood瞳 walked out of the Shuttle, leading their respective squad members to fly towards Diliku.

The bubble-shaped Diliku magnified in front of them, becoming more and more beautiful...

Soon, they passed through the bubble shield outside the city, and under the guidance of the squad that had been sent in advance, began to approach the center of the city.

There, on a certain seaweed-like city base, grew a huge fruit. (To be continued. If you like this work, you are welcome to vote for recommendations and monthly tickets. Your support is my greatest motivation..)
