Colonial Suit

#881 - On the eve of war

The return journey was not smooth sailing.

In fact, from the moment Blood瞳 and Brute embarked on their return journey, they were constantly harassed. Every time they disengaged from warp, some powerful mechanical creatures would appear. These mechanical creatures used a special frequency fluctuation to cut off the shuttle's warp system, preventing the mercenaries from escaping, and then launched attacks on the shuttle from all directions.

Some of them were huge, like hills, while others were small, like balls. But without exception, they all possessed powerful destructive force. When their artillery fire erupted, even the reinforced shuttle shields were rapidly dissolving.

Without a doubt, any one of their attacks would be enough to destroy entire cities below the Third World.

Such intensity was enough to launch a war outside the Second World. But here, it was just harassment.

The battle broke out suddenly and ended suddenly. Although the attacking mechanical creatures were very powerful, they were still far behind the elite human mercenaries. Throughout the battle, only one Meteor-level mercenary was injured by the enemy's concentrated fire, and everyone else was unharmed.

But after the battle, the mercenaries discovered that although there were no casualties, the shuttle's propulsion system had been attacked at some point, and the intact parts could only provide one-third of the power.

The result was that they had to waste more time on the return journey and endure more harassment.

"It's the Sajeste people."

In the bridge, Brute looked at a piece of mechanical wreckage the size of dust and said with a serious expression. It was this little guy who attacked the shuttle's propulsion system. Despite its small size, it actually had a series of stealth abilities such as light deflection and energy shielding, making it impossible for anyone to notice it during the battle. If it hadn't been for Blood瞳's intuition sensing the danger at the end, they would have been caught by this little guy.

"Sajeste?" Blood瞳 repeated in confusion. "Why are they attacking us?"

"You don't even know?" Brute was really dumbfounded. But he still patiently explained. "Our target this time is them. A silicon-based civilization's kingdom. The higher-ups have already assessed it and feel that their civilization has great similarities with our mechanical civilization. If we can occupy their kingdom, we can utilize their resources at the fastest speed to assemble our war system."

"Obviously, they knew our intentions in advance and intercepted us on the way. The purpose is to prevent us from joining forces and buy more time."

"Oh." Blood瞳 nodded. But his expression was still indifferent.

War is not a one-man affair. Even if the existence of cosmic warriors has broken the traditional war model, a war of kingdoms still requires a lot of resources and manpower.

What if these guys delay me? Would the cosmic mercenaries just give up?

That was absolutely impossible.

Blood瞳 believed that even if the two of them could not return to Fankeselt as scheduled, the human armed forces would still launch an attack on time. Even if the odds of winning were reduced as a result.

Because humanity couldn't wait any longer, Blood瞳 knew better than anyone else how anxious the Speaker outside was.

Thinking of this, Blood瞳 glanced at the busy bridge and then asked, "Is there any way to recover it?"

"No!" A mercenary responsible for checking the fault stood up and replied with a frustrated face. "These guys are obviously more familiar with machinery than we are. Their destruction is very thorough. Except for the part that was protected by you, the rest of the propulsion system is completely scrapped. Even replacing it will take a lot of time."

The shuttle came with a nano-repair system, but it was obviously unable to handle such damage.

"Then abandon it!"

Blood瞳 said without hesitation. Having walked on the edge of life and death for many years, he had extraordinary decisiveness. He made the decision in an instant.

"Divide the members into groups, with those who can warp with people as the core. Form twenty teams. Take as many as you can, and Brute and I will handle those who can't be taken."

"But..." The mercenary was immediately anxious. Humans are still accustomed to relying on spaceships for navigation. Without a spaceship, they always felt a lack of security. What's more, there was still a long way to go on the return journey. Without a spaceship, would they have to live in the void day and night?

Without food, water, and energy supplies, even if they could hold on, how would they cope with the endless harassment?

Brute resolutely maintained consistency with Blood瞳 and said coldly. "This is an order, execute it immediately."

"Understood!" The mercenary shuddered and hurriedly saluted and retreated.

The mercenaries on the shuttle became tense and busy, carrying their respective supplies, armor, and portable systems. They were led by Planetary-level mercenaries as captains, following behind Blood瞳 and Brute.

Without the shuttle, they could only rely on these strong men for the next journey.

Blood瞳 was very satisfied with the mercenaries' efficiency. Seeing that the team was assembled, he crushed the shuttle with a force field and led everyone into subspace.

The next journey was naturally even more tense. Because of the lack of a shuttle, Blood瞳 and Brute used their maximum speed, sometimes even venturing into anti-space for long-distance jumps. This not only accelerated the speed, but also made the Sajeste people lose their ambush target.

No, in fact, without the shuttle, their journey was almost smooth. There was only one harassment that they encountered when they were resting. After all, people are not steel. Except for the strong men above the Planetary level, most of the Meteor-level mercenaries still needed to replenish and rest. Otherwise, even if they went back, they wouldn't be able to fight immediately.

The journey that took more than a month only took seven days to return. Blood瞳 once again stepped into the territory of Fankeselt. Bass had been waiting with people for a long time. Seeing Blood瞳 and others stepping out of the void, a trace of relief appeared on his fleshy face.

"Ha... I thought you would be late."

"A little trouble." Blood瞳 replied expressionlessly. "But it won't affect anything."

"That's right." Bass grinned, his fleshy face twitching, full of ferocity. "Nothing can stop us. This is the pace of mankind."

Saying that, he pointed behind him. "Go, I'll take you to meet the other leaders. This time, you, like us, need to bring people to participate. Some plans must be understood."

"Yes." Blood瞳 nodded and followed Bass's footsteps.

The group quickly passed through the streets of Fankeselt. Along the way, Blood瞳 saw many alien races gathered around the human stronghold, pointing fingers at the humans coming in and out.

He couldn't help but feel a little puzzled. "Isn't it too ostentatious? Why are there so many people?"

"There is little chance of a sneak attack in the Second World. You will know in a while." Bass said without turning his head. His tone was full of confidence. "But this time we have prepared for a long time and will definitely not fail."

Saying that, Bass led Blood瞳 into a spherical building. Soon, Blood瞳 saw a group of mercenaries sitting or standing, with indifferent expressions.

They are all Stellar-level!!

Blood瞳's pupils shrank, and his heart trembled. (To be continued. If you like this work, you are welcome to vote for recommendations and monthly tickets. Your support is my biggest motivation..)
