#909 - Natural and man-made disasters
In just a few short months, the Second World was swept by a storm of change. The aftershocks of the Human Domain War were still spreading, and new effects were already emerging.
A 'small' race called the Tergils, after accumulating vast resources and intelligence, launched their own Domain War, just like the humans. They chose a relatively weak, long-standing noble in the Second World, and raided their Void Aggregate with lightning speed. Although they didn't succeed, they severely damaged the civilization, almost bringing it to the brink of collapse. The name of the Tergil civilization thus entered the sights of many old nobles.
Few would believe that this small race didn't have the shadow of humanity behind them. But regardless, they successfully drew everyone's attention, reducing the pressure on the humans considerably. It was then that the old nobles of the Second World realized that the influence of humanity had unknowingly spread to all aspects, weaving a terrifying net.
They quickly signed alliance agreements with seven old civilizations. They supported the development of new races with resources and intelligence, gaining their friendship. At the same time, they also began to transform their Void Aggregates, devouring and digesting the fruits of the Domain War in just a few months.
The terrifying speed of human expansion and influence shocked the old nobles, but by this time they found that they could no longer stop humanity.
The network of relationships they had woven through compromise, trade, and a low profile had already taken root in the soil of the Second World like the roots of a tree. To move against humanity would be to antagonize all the civilizations in this network, a price no one could afford. Moreover, the key to maintaining peace in the Second World was the spirit of the covenant. Signed agreements, especially alliance agreements, had to be upheld. This was a universally recognized law.
Humans had used various means to tie themselves to these civilizations, so that moving one part would affect the whole. This art of decisiveness and compromise amazed all the old civilizations.
They didn't know how much humanity had paid for this, but they were certain it was a very great, very large price. But behind these sacrifices and costs, what chilled them to the bone the most was humanity's decisiveness and ruthlessness.
The art of compromise...
The awareness of sacrifice...
The will to tear apart the sky...
And, the sharp eyes that seemed to see through the future...
They seemed to see another Krodir rising, developing. And more terrifying, more powerful, and more difficult to resist than that ancient demon.
The Great Scourge...
It really has begun.
Yes, it has begun...
In the fifth month after the end of the Domain War, humanity applied for a special channel. Under the watchful, wary, jealous, and envious eyes of all civilizations, they brought in massive resources and population from the lower world. This was a privilege of the old civilizations of the Second World, and an opportunity granted only once after completing a Domain War. Now humanity had it too.
The scene at that time was extremely spectacular. The void above Van Xerter distorted, and huge battleships emerged from the void, outlining their lines and gradually materializing. Countless fighters were densely packed, almost filling the sky. The alien races present discussed among themselves, pointing and commenting. Everyone could see the envy in their eyes.
Humanity's move was extremely generous this time, bringing in a population of hundreds of millions, including a large number of war machines and basic technologies. This was equivalent to a major relocation, moving the essence of what humanity had accumulated in the lower world to the Second World, in order to establish the foundation of a higher civilization.
However, even privileges have limits. According to the rules of the Second World, there were upper limits to the population and resources that humanity could accept this time, and they would not be allowed to use the channel again for several centuries. This meant that this large-scale replenishment was the first and last time. From now on, if they wanted to replenish, they would have to wait until the deadline expired and use the sacrificial channel to obtain it little by little. This would make humanity's population advantage disappear.
This was also to maintain the balance of the Second World and ensure the advantage of the ancient civilizations.
It was a pity that these ancient civilizations never dreamed that humanity had actually opened a private channel. Even without this replenishment, they could gradually send in more people, equipment, and resources. The blockade of the Second World was almost completely ineffective against them. The only difference was the amount of time. The Mercenary Council, the Star Pirate Alliance, and the entire upper echelon of humanity had been planning this for a long time, so how could they be willing to be constrained?
"Brother Dick!" A little dwarf, as round as a potato, looked at the battleships in the sky with starry eyes and called to a slightly larger potato next to him. "Are those human ships? They're so big! When can we send our people over?"
"Soon, as long as we conquer a domain. Believe me. As long as we conquer one, just one... It definitely won't be too far away." The big potato gritted his teeth, but his eyes flashed with ambition.
At this time, there were many other alien races whispering to each other. Before this, the success of humanity was just a rumor, but now they had seen the reality. When huge battleships appeared in front of them, what could be more convincing? The fire of ambition, once lit, was difficult to extinguish. The resentment towards the old nobles would also take root and sprout like seeds.
And at this time, they didn't know that in the largest mothership in the sky, an old man was also observing them with great interest. His hair was gray, and he was lazily lying in a recliner, holding a half-empty glass of wine in his hand.
Around him, familiar flower seas swayed gently, emitting a faint fragrance.
"Look... what wonderful eyes. I see desire and ambition in their eyes. I bet our appearance has obsessed them, and maybe in a few days, they will become the next humans," the Speaker squinted his eyes, looking at the pairs of fiery eyes below, and said with a smile.

"But the blooming of the flower of desire needs blood to water it. I don't know if they are ready to sacrifice," Sal Jones said behind the Speaker. He was dressed more formally today, and stood as straight as a javelin.
This was a big day for humanity, and he had to be solemn. Because this day would be recorded in the history of humanity, and also in the history of the universe.
"We are the ghosts of the Great Scourge," the Speaker sighed and put down his glass. "When we were young, everyone looked down on us, and anyone could bully us. When we grew up, they were wary of us and hostile to us. Now, we have come here to obtain that place in the sun. But we never thought..."
"It turns out that everything is arranged in the trajectory of fate."
"Is the Great Scourge a natural disaster?"
"Or is it human nature?" (To be continued. If you like this work, you are welcome to vote for recommendations and monthly tickets. Your support is my greatest motivation.)
