Chapter 240 - How Am I?

Unlike the oblivious Victor, Dennis had deduced who the owner of the handkerchief was. ‘So, the owner of the handkerchief was Lady Floyen.’ Although she was once ill-reputed, such a thing seemed to be from the past. In fact, it was strategically favorable for the crown prince to win the lady’s heart if he wanted Duke Floyen’s support during the rebellion ‘As expected, His Highness has been preparing a lot of things for the usurpation,’ Dennis smiled proudly. He then turned to the prince who was wearing a frigid expression and asked carefully, “So, what is it that you are curious about, Your Highness?”

Max sighed. “I’ve made a mistake… and every time I see her, I feel guilty about it.” Startled by the fact that the crown prince was feeling guilty, the two knights glanced at their lord. They then lowered their heads in haste. Glancing at each other, they began to whisper again.

“Does any of this make sense? His Highness feels guilty!”

“We’ll keep listening.”

Soon Max continued, “So, what should I do?”

Dennis swallowed nervously. “I think you should think carefully about apologizing. If it is something she has not noticed, asking for forgiveness might only make it worse.”

Max let out a sigh of relief. ‘As I thought… That must be the right answer.’

That was when Victor gave rather simple advice, “How about just admitting what you’ve done wrong, Your Highness? It might sound counterintuitive, but ladies frequently open their hearts to sincere apologies.”

Max was being convinced in the other direction when Dennis argued, “What if she ends up despising His Highness for what he’s done? It seems you’re giving rash advice because it’s not your business, Victor.”

After a moment, Max came to a decision. ‘I’d rather follow Dennis’ opinion than that frivolous Victor.’ That was when another disturbing thought came to his mind. “I have another problem.”

Dennis and Victor tensed up again. ‘What is he going to ask, and why does he look so serious?!’

Max soon opened his mouth, “She told me about her ideal type… but it’s someone other than me.”

Shocked, the two men stared at their lord with their mouths agape.

‘What kind of person is he dating?!’

Unlike the confused Victor, Dennis began thinking. ‘Lady Floyen was rumored to have a secret lover. He is a commoner as far as I know. Is it him?’

“Why don’t you threaten that man?” Victor suggested.

Dennis was about to scold his subordinate for the thoughtless words. However, Max furrowed his brow and explained, “That’s impossible. Her ideal type is Duke Floyen.” Having processed the situation their lord was in, the two knights smiled.

“Ah, that makes sense… If that’s the case, you needn’t worry about it.”

Max was puzzled by Victor’s words. With a gentle smile, Dennis explained, “After all, the duke is everyone’s ideal type.”

‘Everyone’s ideal type?’ Normally, he wouldn’t have cared much. However, Max was irritated for some reason. Glaring at his subordinates, Max asked, “How am I when compared to him?”

Dennis tensed up. He knew he may be punished if he didn’t come up with an adequate answer quickly enough. ‘The duke is Lady Floyen’s father… I must answer carefully.’

Dennis was deep in thought when Victor answered, “You can’t compare to him, Your Highness! Duke Floyen is flawless, you know—” A deafening silence filled the room. Finally reading the atmosphere, Victor swallowed nervously and attempted to fix his mistake. “He doesn’t feel human! He’s so unreal is what I mean!”

Max felt his mood grow even fouler.
