Ch.311 Lifetime Promise (1)

With a buzz ringing in her ears, Ye Fan's mind went blank in an instant.

All the sounds suddenly stopped abruptly around her, and the entire world fell into silence.

Ye Fan's heartbeat accelerated violently. Her eyes were dazed, frozen in place.

He Han's eyes flickered, and the look in his eyes warmed considerably as a sigh of relief broke out in his heart.

He carefully measured Ye Fan's expression with his lips tightly pursed.

Just as he guessed, Ye Fan knew the truth, but she didn't want him to know.

He Han suddenly let go of her, removing his warmth.

He was no longer restricting Ye Fan's movements, but there were unspeakable emotions flooding in the bottom of his heart.

His voice rang out extremely softly inside the stuffy car. The trees were swaying outside the window, forming hazy shadows inside the car.

Thin lips parting, he said, "So you already knew about it."

Ye Fan did not deny it, nor did she answer him. Her eyes were down, but he had no idea what she was thinking about.

There was a moment of silence.

He Han suddenly opened his mouth and called out to her. "Ye Fan."

Ye Fan slowly raised her eyes and looked into his. "When did you find out?"

He Han did not keep it from her. "When Dudu was sick, his blood sample was taken at the hospital."

Ye Fan's eyes dimmed for a few moments. It was just as she expected. He Han probably used Dudu's blood sample to check his parentage after getting suspicious.

He Han asked, "Is that why you were so against me meeting Dudu before?"

Ye Fan was silent. After some thought, she said, "I don't think it's a good thing for Dudu to meet with his father who has never shown up in his life."

All along, Dudu had already accepted the fact that he had no father. He Han's appearance was a surprise.

He Han frowned, voice low. "But Dudu needs a father now."

"He Han, don't forget." Ye Fan's attitude suddenly turned cold. "You only met Dudu this year."

Ye Fan knew nothing about He Han's identity. All she knew was that He Han had never found out about Dudu or sought him out after so many years.

So what was he trying to do now? Was he trying to make up for all the fatherly love Dudu missed out on for the past three years?

Ye Fan never thought about monopolizing Dudu, but Dudu was the only thing she could think about right now.

The dim light shining in from outside the car window made He Han's jaw appear tense. His usual aloofness looked even colder now.

After a while, He Han finally spoke. He slowly spat out two words. "I'm sorry."

He Han could not explain the situation to Ye Fan, so apologizing was the only thing he could do for Ye Fan now.

He didn't expect Ye Fan to forgive him for being absent from Dudu's life for so many years, but he really did like Dudu and wanted to take responsibility for him.

Ye Fan had calmed down. Her expression was extremely light. "Dudu and I have already gotten used to living in a family of two."

She told He Han an objective fact, "If a biological father suddenly appears in his life, do you think Dudu would be able to accept that?"

He Han lowered his gaze. "How did you explain it to him?"

He Han remembered how sad Dudu looked because other kids had complete and happy families, but not him.

As soon as he thought of that, He Han would feel heartbroken.

Ye Fan was silent for a while. Then, she spoke in a clear and cold voice, "The only thing Dudu knows is that his father went to a faraway place."

The night deepened further, enveloped by a layer of dim light.

Ye Fan shut her eyes and sighed lightly in the silent space.

"I told him he'd never come back."

The air stilled in the room. It felt heavy.

Neither He Han nor Ye Fan spoke again. They were both sitting next to each other in the car with their separate thoughts, looking at the empty, secluded road in front of them.

He Han's gaze was deep and his temples were buzzing. The thoughts in his mind were pressing down on him.

His sudden appearance disturbed the lives of the two of them.

And, Dudu never had any hopes that his father would appear. He took He Han as his father, and that was based on the premise that he was not his real father.

If Dudu knew the truth, what would he think?

She was worried that Dudu would feel sad, anxious, or even hurt.

Ye Fan frowned. She didn't even realize that she was clenching her hands hard enough for her knuckles to go white.

Her heart was racing, and an unspeakable feeling of exhaustion came over her. It was overwhelming.

Ye Fan knew that He Han's kindness to Dudu was sincere, but it was impossible for them to come together just because of a child.
