Damien's Hellverse
Chapter 5:Peace Keeper
His eyes opened but all he saw was a wall.
And then he remembered. But he didn't dare to turn around. He quietly climbed out of the bed and put his trunks on.
It would make for a strange topic at breakfast. He thought to himself, Porphyria, did you notice any unusual activity last night in our bedroom? The thought alone made him laugh but then he reminded himself once again that she was asleep, and it would be best if he didn't wake her. It had occurred to him that he didn't remember what he had done to be sent to this place.
Nevertheless, he would not let it burden him such that he couldn't make it out of this new world. He finished getting dressed with his back turned towards the bed. It was only after looking at the wall for a minute or so that he realised it was actually made out of mud. As a matter of fact, all the buildings were made from mud. Except for the hall, all the buildings were made of mud.
You couldn't blame them though. The lack of raw materials meant that they would have to use the resources provided as creatively as possible. He knocked on the wall like you would with a door to test its integrity. It was incredibly hard! Had he not known any better, he might have assumed it was concrete.
He slipped his socks on and turned around. But, he would have never guessed… Porphyria had gotten up. She was still asleep for the most part, but she was partially awake nonetheless.
"Um, you might want to cover your boobs." She was still sat in bed, so the rest of her assets weren't so readily available. But she didn't care. She got up from the bed slowly and walked over to Damien.
"What's wrong big boy?" she placed her hand against his stomach and slowly inched it down. "Am I provoking your more primal parts?" a grin crept across her face but then she laughed and ran across her room to put her clothes on. But she had left him in a state of awe.
He had just been in bed with Aphrodite's daughter. After all, where else does an ass like that come from? He had seen everything. Couldn't she have left a little more up to the imagination?
He couldn't remember his wife all that well, but he knew that she also happened to be quite the beauty.
Porphyria returned to him and clicked her fingers. "Wakey, wakey. They won't be serving breakfast all day you know." All most as if she had forgotten how she had just been teasing him. He was going to become very sexually frustrated if he didn't fuck her, sooner or later. Preferably sooner.
But he made his way out. The citizens had gathered in the streets waiting for the doors to open. They all conversed with one another. Some conversations meaningless, others more substantial. But then he overheard three men talking about something that really caught his attention.
He focused a bit harder while looking like he wasn't paying attention. "Did you hear about the Yojin incident? Three low class Yojin's broke through the wall!" One of the guys conveyed the news with a worrisome attitude. "B-but, that hasn't happened in 700 years!"
"Forgive me, but I couldn't help but overhear your conversation. What exactly is a Yoyjin?"
"It's Yo-jin. The Yojin are a race of creatures spawned by the gods. Legend has it that in the beginning there were three All-mighty entities, the names of which I don't know. Somewhere along the line, they created the Yojin alongside the rest of us, humans."
"So, I'm assuming that they aren't really human, or similar to us in anyway?" he asked obliviously.
"No, you fool. They are mindless animals. They are nothing like us. They have no consciousness."
"So, have you ever seen one up close?" he asked. He knew definitively that they hadn't. He simply asked to provoke them.
"Well no but…"
And Damien interrupted once again, "Have you ever met anyone that has seen one?"
"No..."
"Then you can't say for certain."
It wasn't in his nature to be an asshole, but he did however, have a habit of questioning everything. Absolutely everything and at times it did make him come off as a dickhead.
"How did you come by this news anyway?" he had already learnt a lot about this world from this conversation alone, but he was going to learn everything he possibly could before breakfast came about. Opportunities like this one would not come as easily as they go.
"My cousin had an assignment down there. He is part of a local guild. That's how he came about the assignment. When he got back he told us about the incident he had received word on while down there."
This "Guild" so to speak, had sparked his attention. "So where does this guild happen to be located?"
"You would never miss it."
"There is a road to the right of the hall where we have breakfast and dinner. If you follow that road, you'll come by a large building; that looks like a castle, with the words "Twilight Kings" on the front."
"Thank you."
And with that Damien took his leave.
He began making his way to the hall and soon enough, he heard a man shouting to everybody. "The gates are opening and breakfast is ready." There were people all over the place but to his surprise, once the gates began openning, everything body got into lines and began entering the hall in an orderly fashion.
He took their lead and got into the line as well only to be greeted by what seemed like the smell of warm porridge. The scent caused his mouth to become painfully weak and an eagerness to get inside took over his body.
But a finger tapped his shoulder and he was brought back down to Earth. Or better say Hell.
"Oh, hello Talia. Haven't seen you in a while."
"Yes, I know. The Elder is sick, so my father has been taking care of him but he didn't want us to miss out on breakfast."
"I see, do you think the elder will take much longer to recover?"
"I don't know but my father said he has never seen anything like it and it happened literally over night."
This was a problem. Is it contagious? How quickly does it kill? Anyone else would have simply ignored the situation thinking "What do I care?" but this could cause problems for everyone.
"Do you mind taking me there after breakfast?"
"Sure. But I can't guarantee my father will let you in."
"Don't worry about that."
In no time, they had gotten into the hall and sat down. The three of them didn't talk all that much while eating but they were incredibly well mannered. Looks like there are class systems, even in this world. But then he remembered, he hadn't seen Porphyria since she had left in the morning.
Once they finished their food, the three of them got up and made their way to the Elder's home. Talia didn't want her little brother around the sick elder so they went straight home once they had dropped Damien off.
Damien knocked on the door a few times before it opened.
"Oh, what brings you here Mr Damien?"
"I've come to see the village elder."
"Oh, please. Do come in."
He entered the room bending over lightly, not to bang his head on the way in.
The elder looked absolutely horrible. His cheeks had sunk into his face and black circles had formed around his eyes. It became clear that the elder would not have wanted anybody to see him in this state.
"Have you figured out what exactly is wrong with the elder?"
"No, but between you and me... If we don't find a solution fast, he will die."
And then he remembered. But he didn't dare to turn around. He quietly climbed out of the bed and put his trunks on.
