Danger Zone

Chapter 97 - Confusion

Aiden still can't shake off the feeling of what just happened earlier with Daime. He is currently snuggling with Primo but his mind goes straight to Daime.

He tries to shake off the feeling of regret and just sleep, but his mind still wonders what had happened and why Daime says something like that.

He looks at the digital clock on the nightstand and it still says three in the morning.

Aiden sighs and stares blankly at the dark ceiling of the room. His mind keeps on pondering where did everything goes sideways.

When did Aiden forget about Daime? Their memories together are so limited that even Aiden can't think of a single moment where he noticed Daime's lonely heart.

"Fuck. I can't sleep."

Aiden stands up from the bed and removes Primo's arm that is looped around his waist. He grabs the robe near the nightstand and walks out of the room.

Primo is sleeping soundly since he is so tired of running around and helping Drax with the family's secret business.

Aiden goes out of the room and goes to the garden outside of the house. Drax wakes up a little bit early than his normal quota and sees Aiden outside of the house, looking at the night sky.

He wonders what the man is doing there and immediately walks up to him to see what was going on. He walks passed by the living room and notices a giant figure sleeping on the couch.

Drax stops and stares at the figure and recognize the scent coming out of him.

"Daime? Is that you?"

The figure releases a tired groan and waving hands towards Drax as he mutters in a low inaudible sound.

"What are you doing sleeping on the couch? Go back to your room."

Drax tries to drag Daime quietly or they will wake up anyone that is sleeping near the living room. He looks outside and Aiden is still there.

His face is somewhat similar to someone wondering what they have been doing all this time. Drax clicks his tongue and smacks Daime to wake him up but the latter just mumbles.

"Shut up. I am trying to sleep. Stop disturbing me."

That's when Drax stops and only stares at Daime. He takes his phone out from his pocket and checks the calendar.

"It's way too early for the date. Who triggered you? Are you okay?"

Daime did not answer and continues to sleep. Drax can only sigh and walks towards Aiden's direction.

Maybe Aiden has an answer.

Drax quietly crouches down and taps Aiden's shoulder. Aiden turns around as he feels a tap on his shoulder and shocked to see Drax awake at this ungodly hour.

"Having a hard time sleeping?"

Aiden can only smile at the older man. Drax sighs as he sits down beside Aiden and smells the cold breeze of dawn.

He looks over at Aiden who is deep in thoughts as he observes the way he tries to stop his tears from falling.

This sight gives Drax an as to why Daime is having his tantrums at this ungodly hour.

It's either because of Aiden and Primo or just Primo himself.

Drax wants to ask about it but nosing into other people's businesses is never a good option. It could also lead into something that he doesn't want to get involved at.

But he knows that if he didn't do anything, Daime will definitely go through hell of self harm and self-destruction.

"Aiden, can I ask you something? It's a bit personal, so please don't mind it too much."

Aiden shifts his eyes to Drax who is trying to form his words properly and not make it sound like he is blaming Aiden for Daime's attitude even if that's actually what he is doing.

"Did you know why Daime is sleeping on the couch?"

Aiden freezes at the question as tears suddenly falls down his chin. Drax almost shrieks when he sees Aiden suddenly gushing out fountains from his eyes.

"Why are you crying? Did I say something bad?"

Aiden covers his eyes as he tries to lower down his voice from crying. Drax doesn't know what to do, hugging Aiden is not an option or Primo will kill him.

He looks behind him and sees a giant running towards them from the living room and engulfs Aiden with his muscular arms as tight as possible.

As if he doesn't want to let go of Aiden no matter what costs.

"Hush, little baby. What's wrong?"

Aiden sniffs out as he places his head on Daime's chest.

"I-It's ja-just-*hick*-"

Daime calms him down as he goes for the one way that his sister used to do to help him out whenever he is in a crying fit.

It starts off with a hum of a familiar tune as  Drax slowly smiles and looks at the vast space while waiting for the rising sun.

*Hush little baby, don't you cry.

I am here so hold on tight.

You are my sweet little thing.

Without you, I am nothing.*

Aiden slowly calms down as he feels the vibration of Daime's voice as he sings. Aiden looks up at the man hugging him and smiles sadly.

*Hush little baby, don't you cry.

Everything will be alright.

Dry those tears from your eyes.

I am here so hold on tight.*

How can he let go of the man who pulls him down to the ground and anchor his life as it goes upside down?

How can he hurt someone who had been there when he needs him the most? The person who tries his best to help him with assignments, projects and other shenanigans that Aiden needs.

The one person who will not hurt him and will wait for him even if Aiden asks him to wait for almost a hundred thousand years.

Aiden sighs in Daime's chest as he feels sleep invading his system. Aiden looks over the horizon as the lullaby repeats like a broken record.

The three of them watches as the dark sky changes colors, giving it the signature color of the sunrise with orange, yellow and a bit of solemn red.

Daime hums the song as Aiden closes his heavy eyes. In his mind, he wishes that Daime will always stay the same and waits for him to show how much Daime is important to him.

Morning abruptly comes after Daime puts Aiden to sleep in his room. Drax is walking behind Daime as he tells the younger that he needs to wake up Primo to catch their pending client before he escape without paying for his troubles to the family.

Daime nods in understanding and opens his room, only to see Primo already awake and looking for Aiden.

"He wants to see the sunrise but fell asleep before he had seen it."

Drax looks at Daime before looking with a blank expression towards Primo. The guy only nods and proceeds to get out of the room as he prepares for their work, leaving Aiden under the care of Daime.

Primo knows that Daime will take good care of him so he entrusts Aiden to him too much. Since he had been pretty busy lately, with the clients and the secret business, he doesn't have time to even talk to Aiden because he is too busy.

Primo sighs as he fixes his shirt and runs behind Drax before hopping inside the car and rides away.

Daime puts Aiden to bed and covers him with a thick blanket. He is about to stand up and walks away when Aiden grabs his arm and pulls him back towards him.

"Don't leave me, Primo. I am scared."

Daime's world stops. He stares at the sleeping guy as he holds onto Daime's arm tightly and snuggles to his chest.

Daime wants to cry but no tears fall from his eyes. He just stares blankly at Aiden as the feeling of jealousy engulfs his entire mind to the point of no return.

The latter sighs as he removes his arm from Aiden and climbs up to the other side of the bed. He hugs Aiden and clears his throat as he tries to imitate Primo's voice and tone before speaking to Aiden.

"I'm so sorry, love. I won't leave you anymore. I promise."

It pains him. His heart can't take how much it hurts when Aiden calls him with a different name.

But of course, Aiden will. Daime knows that Aiden already forgot about his existence in this relationship. Maybe they are not meant to be together.

"Friends should be the answer to that."

Daime nods in his head as he slowly moves on and away from Aiden.

"I can do this. This will just be easy, since our memories together are only limited. Everything will be okay."

Aiden turns over to Daime and snuggles to his chest, thinking that it is Primo and not the latter. He even kisses him on the lips and Daime only smiles.

"When you wake up, forget about me. Forget everything about me as if I don't exist.

My sweet angel, thank you for being part of my life. Now, I guess I should move on since you already have your knight.

See you in my dreams, my sweet little angel."
