Dark Hunger
Chapter 117 - Carved
Vadin growled aggressively, feeling like a total fool. Ever since he got the information about the brawl that had taken place in the streets of Whiteclaw Pack, he had planned and laid for the perfect trap. He got her to follow and came to know that she was using the help of the werewolf to go to the foothills of the Northern Mountains to find the demon lair.
He had got two of his men to take over from there. However, when his men reached the place where she was seen last, they realized that she had already left. They followed her scent and found her hovering in a cave not very far up. And from there it was very easy to get her up here. But he wasn't prepared for what just happened.
"You won't be able to get out of here!" he grunted. This cave is filled with so many demons that they would rip you apart in pieces before you take twenty steps out." All of a sudden noise broke on the outside. They heard metal clanging against metal, thuds and cries.
Elize turned her gaze to Auril, who had covered Caleb in his healing magic. There were green bursts of light that surrounded him. And in front of her eyes, she could see that he was recovering, albeit slowly. "What did you say?" she asked Vadin, returning her attention to him.
"You won't be able to get out of the place!" He pulled against his chains but the more he did, the more the chains tightened in his flesh.
"Oh, that?" she said with a tap on her chin. "Nah! I think by the time I get out of here, my way would be clear because you see, my dear demon, I didn't come alone!"
"Wait? What?" Auril asked, snapping his gaze to her. He chuckled. "Caleb is going to be one angry man when he wakes up."
She tittered and then shrugged. "Byrd and his team followed me all the way up. They came after me as soon as I stepped out of the portal in the Whiteclaw Pack." Elize recalled how Byrd and his group of soldiers had all gathered together and they came after her. But as soon as they came, they kept in the shadows on her instructions. She didn't want to alert the demons of her plans. She wanted them to think how stupid and naïve and crazy she was to have come after her husband all alone, without any help. The thing was that she definitely crazy but she wasn't stupid or naïve. She had thought of ten steps ahead. Byrd, along with his men, must have already slaughtered the outside. Right now, Elize was waiting for Caleb to heal just enough to be carried down to the Whiteclaw pack.
Auril let out a low whistle. The girl had matured several years in such a short span. Caleb's training had worked wonders with her. She had been able to use her magic in a controlled way. He didn't know how much of her fighting skills had improved, but the way she had punched the demon, it made him cringe a little.
Then she spun on her heels and tilted her head to see Vadin. "Tell me what you did to Laurel? Is she alive or is she dead?"
Vadin let out a humorless laugh. "You would never know, vampire!"
She raised her eyebrow and then scoffed. "I don't even want to know." She turned half and then stopped herself. "And there's one thing that I have to tell you, Vadin," she added, walking towards him. "Don't you think that if I could take over that werewolf in the Whiteclaw pack, I wasn't that delicate?" She stood beside him and then took her dagger out from her belt.
"Wh— what are you doing?" Vadin said as he tried to move away from her. There was vengeance in them.
"Nothing much," she replied and then plunged the dagger right in his knee as red tendrils of her magic splashed out of her hand and covered his knee. The bone inside melted and Vadin bellowed in pain.
"That is going to fix you for life!" she said. She took her dagger out and then looked at Auril once more. He gave her a nod and she turned back her gaze to Vadin. "You have a special attraction to torture people, don't you?"
The demon was in immense pain. He had never in his life been tortured so badly. His body had suffered many injuries over his life span. The skin had peeled, the bones had cracked but never ever his bone had melted. And that is what the vampire queen did. He screamed in excruciating pain as he yanked his chains to tend to his knee. Sweat burst on his forehead. "You bitch!" he yelled. Through his clenched teeth he said, "Wait till you meet my king. He is going to take his magic from you and then kill you and your fucking mate!"
And she plunged her dagger in his other knee. The tendrils of her magic swept across the skin and reached his bone, melting it thoroughly. She was shaking with anger as she pulled her dagger out. "You shouldn't have mentioned my husband's name on your filthy tongue." Vadin screamed. "I will carve you in this stone Vadin," she growled. "You will become a fossil, never to be discovered." Saying that she took a step back and without looking at Auril said, "You need to leave now."
"What about you, Elize?" Auril said as he got up.
"I will join you in a short while."
Auril nodded stiffly. His confidence in her had gone several notches high. He hauled Caleb over his shoulder. The man had lost a lot of weight and Auril felt terrible about it. "See you on the outside," he said and then slowly walked towards the exit of the small room where he had seen enough torture that would last a lifetime.
"Yeah!" she said as her eyes remained fixed on the demon.
"What are you going to do?" asked Vadin with genuine fear in his eyes.
Elize didn't reply, only waited… waited for Auril to carry her mate away. He had suffered so much for her and now she was going to make them all suffer more than they could imagine. She closed her eyes and then focused on the pool of magic in the core of her stomach. She pulled it out and when she opened her eyes, the magic came out swirling. It cascaded down her arms to her fingers where it swirled, agitated to do something. She thrust her hands forward in a flash and it struck the stone altar at serpentine speed. The stone cracked loudly around the demon. But it didn't just crack, it started to melt. The demon yelled and yanked his chains to be free but he found himself sinking down the altar. The tendrils covered him and the altar completely. A few minutes later, the demon was carved inside the stone. When the tendril retracted, the stone solidified around him.
Elize walked out of the room without giving it a second glance.. The scene in front of her was… interesting.
