Dark Hunger

Chapter 52 - Is She Fine?

Caleb stood there panting and heaving, watching them all. They lay there on the snow, dead. There was so much bloodlust in him that he was going to go crazy. He wanted more demons to come and he wanted to kill them all. He regretted not killing Edyrm there and then at Galahar.

Suddenly his ears heard her heartbeat. It was so weak, yet soothing because she had lived. He spun to her. Rushing to where she was, he crouched in front of her, his muscles knotted.  He looked at her face.

"Caleb!" Auril called him. He turned to look at him with madness in his eyes. "We have to take her away from here. She might—"

"No!" Caleb roared. He gathered his mate in his arms and snapped his fingers.

---

Elize heard many voices, mainly of Caleb. "Just fucking heal her!" He was arguing with someone. She wanted to respond, but her body was still. She remembered that Caleb had snapped his fingers and then she was engulfed into darkness. Those demons wanted her. They wanted to kill Caleb. Oh god. The thought was extremely painful. It was like a grueling nightmare come true. Tears formed in her eyes. She remotely heard roars and yells, blood spraying on the snow and bones snapping. She wanted to touch Caleb, feel that he was right. She wanted him to hold her and then she would assure him that she would rather die than seeing him die. Or maybe now she wanted to live for him. As if understanding what she wanted, she felt strong muscular arms around her body, his fingers caressing her back.

"Wolf, those are the poisoned tips of demons that scratched her!" Auril grunted as he smashed medicines in a mortar. "There would have been serious repercussions!"

"Then bloody fix her!"

"I am trying!" he gritted. "Can't you see? I can only do as much! She is catatonic!"

"I don't give a fucking to your trying! You better heal her!"

Auril snapped back, "Why did you allow her to get out in the first place? Did you expect those demons to stay quiet? Now I suspect that the thing that smashed on the car was a demon. You are lucky that she didn't die from the poison of the horns."

"I didn't want her to go!" he shot a glare at Laurel who was standing at the edge of the table where all the medicines were placed. Auril had foraged some medicinal plants and was now making a paste in a mortar with a thistle.

Laurel winced under his glare and she lowered her eyes. She had made such a fantastic plan. Using her sorcery on the vampire, she was affecting her mind and willing her into leaving the place. At first, she lowered Elize's mental guards by making her feel bad and then she struck her with her magic. And the results were exactly what she wanted. Elize had gone out to meet her doom. But she didn't know that Caleb would get into action so soon. He soon realized that she was not there and asked her about Elize's whereabouts. She had said that the queen had gone to the washroom, but Caleb got suspicious and then ran after her. Laurel was hoping that Elize would reject Caleb and that he would return with a depressed face and mind, but he returned with her and in this state. He was mad as hell at her for not protecting the queen. She was now afraid that he would send her back to Ixoviya and her mission would fail.

Caleb snarled, "But how does it all matter? Now stop asking silly questions, druid, and mend her!"

"She will be fine soon, Your Highness," said Laurel in a flattery voice.

"Silence!" Caleb roared.

Laurel cowered and appeared to shrink.

Caleb pulled blankets over Elize and then began pacing the room. "Do you want me to go and get some medicine for the humans?" They had secured a room over there for Elize to lie down and heal.

"A human medicine would never help her!" said Auril.

But Caleb left them and rushed to a pharmacy near the inn. When Caleb reached the drug store, he wondered what if he never saw that stubborn gaze again? What if he never felt the passion that he had felt from her the last time?

Auril took the paste in his hands and then after lifting her head up, he pushed the medicine in her mouth. "Elize, the wolf is going to go in a murderous rage over this. Everyone around him will be killed, so you wake up!"

At this point, Caleb entered the room with the medicines. Seeing Auril holding her, he growled and leapt at him. "Fuck you!" He removed him from her and then held his bride in his arms.

"I was just making her eat the medicine!" Auril shouted. "And how did you come back so fast?"

"Give it to me!" he shouted back. He didn't tell me that he had slapped five hundred dollars in the face of the pharmacist and held him by the collar to give every poison antidote available in the store. He took the medicine from Auril and made Elize eat it with a spoon. He parted her lips and put the green paste in her mouth. He found her looking at him, dazed. He spewed out a flurry of curses at the demons and then coaxed her into eating it, but the girl didn't swallow. Only one thing was left for her to swallow. He sliced his wrist and then placed it in between her lips. Elize's vampire instincts rapidly let her dig her fangs in his flesh and she lapped his blood softly, allowing the medicine to be swallowed in. Caleb let out a sigh of relief as he watched his wife drinking from him. With one hand he had pressed her against his chest while with his other, he fed her.

Only a trickle had gone in and fifteen minutes later, the color on her cheeks returned.. She had left his wrist, as her body heated and relaxed. Caleb looked at her and asked Auril, "Is she fine, druid?"
