Dark Hunger
Chapter 65 - Marriage Certificate
Owen parked the car and the two hopped out of it, eager to put their vengeance in place. The station was not so busy at this hour of the night. It was 8PM. Owen strode inside with purpose and found a police officer on his desk while saw a few near the coffee machine, talking in low voices. "We have to register a complaint of a missing person," he said to the one at the desk.
The policeman frowned at them and then lazily waved to the chair opposite to him for them to sit. Owen perched on the edge of the chair and Nessa kept on standing.
The policeman switched his computer on and with an exasperated, tired sigh, said, "Tell me the details."
"My sister, Elize, is abducted," Owen breathed out. His eyes went to the policeman's name on the metal plague. James Murphy.
James started clicking on his computer. His brows furrowed deeply and he said, "Go on," in a serious tone.
"She is living on her own and is working in a night school. We saw her last when our father died and since then we have been trying to contact her, but she has only picked up her phone once," Owen continued. "We are very worried about her whereabouts."
James typed on the keyboard as he nodded to every detail.
"She is mentally unwell," said Nessa.
"Mentally unwell?" James stopped typing as he glanced at her with a crease between his eyebrows. "Was she on medication? Was she showing to a doctor?"
Nessa shook her head. "No. We have been trying to coax her into showing to a doctor but she wouldn't go because she strongly believed the condition she was going through."
"And what is the condition?" asked James, narrowing his eyes.
"She thinks she is a vampire!" Nessa said with wide eyes and a dramatic sigh.
James jerked his head back. "I see," he said and continued to type more. "Continue. Who do you think has abducted her and why? Any suspects?"
"Actually, we do think that someone is after my sister," said Owen. "She is right now in a very vulnerable position. And the person who is taking advantage of her is a man called Caleb. We believe that he has abducted her and is holding her against her will. He had stalked her for a long time. She has been staying away from him but it seems that he has eventually abducted her." Owen's eyes were filled with pain at this point. Nessa began to stroke his back lightly as if to placate his worries. "Please Officer James, you should find her. She is not in the right mental makeup and we don't want Caleb to take advantage of a girl as gullible as her. I promise that as soon as you find her, we will take her to the doctor and do whatever is suggested. I just want her safe."
James took a deep breath. "I understand…" he muttered with all sympathy. After a long time when he had filled in all the details, he said, "What is the full name of Caleb?"
"Caleb Silver," said Nessa in a low voice.
"What?" James leaned his head forward to listen to her correctly.
Nessa took in a deep breath and said, "Caleb Silver."
James looked at her with astonishment in his eyes. He chuckled and said, "I hope you are not telling me it is the same Caleb Silver of the Silver House?"
Nessa winced. She looked at Owen to support her. She knew that Caleb Silver was a big name in the industry.
Owen gave her a nod and then turned to the police officer. "It is the same Caleb Silver. He is taking advantage of my sister. She had complained to us about him three months back that he was harassing her. We thought that she was not serious and only joking, but now we know for sure that it is Caleb Silver who is harassing her. Please, officer, we know that the Silvers are very big people, but that doesn't mean that they should be oppressed by them."
James stopped typing entirely. He placed his elbows on the table and leaned forward. "Why would Caleb be interested in a mentally deranged woman to the point of kidnapping her when he can have any girl in this world at the drop of a hat?" He narrowed his eyes. "It doesn't make a fucking sense."
Owen's thoughts vanished and he became blank. But Nessa filled in for him. "We don't know, but Caleb has been showing a lot of interest in Elize. It is to the point of obsession."
James chortled. "Shouldn't you feel lucky about that? They are very influential people."
"No! Elize doesn't like him," snapped Owen, collecting his thoughts back. "That is why we have come for help."
By this time two other police officers had come by the desk. One of them stood on the side, while the other pulled a chair and sat beside James. Curiosity was apparent on their faces.
Nessa felt excited. The case was catching gravity and she had to go for it. "If you want you can call Elize. I have her number. But you will see that it is Caleb who picks her phone and not her. That is the kind of control and dominance we are talking about. Poor girl, she is not allowed to talk to us."
"I heard that Caleb Silver got married to Elize Walsh," said the officer who was standing. "Is your sister the same?" he asked Owen.
Owen cringed. He was hoping that this secret didn't come out, but it did. Still, he said, "Not that I know of. Caleb had taken her to San Francisco with him three months back, but she returned almost a month later, completely distressed and mentally unstable. So there was no marriage. In my opinion Caleb Silver was so disappointed that he was rejected by a girl like Elize that he couldn't take it and now he has done this nefarious thing. He abducted her."
"She isn't married to him?" asked the officer with a surprise as he crossed his hands across his chest.
"No, she isn't," Owen replied.
"That is incorrect!" A voice boomed from behind, and they all jerked their heads back. Neal was standing with a folder in his hands and a man standing beside him. He looked at Nessa and Owen with murderous looks and then gave the folder to the man. The man who looked like he was in his forties, was wearing a black coat and black pants that spoke of wealth. His black hair was combed back. He had a thin moustache and his eyes were like that of a hawk.
"I am Sian o' Connor," he said in a quiet voice, approaching them, "Lawyer of Mr. Neal Perry and Caleb Silver." He opened the folder and placed a certificate on the table. "This is the marriage certificate of Caleb Silver and Elize Walsh. They were married in the courts of Bainsburgh."
Owen and Nessa's eyes swept to the certificate lying on the table with two photographs and various stamps on it. How did Neal find them so fast?
"Bu— but—" Nessa stammered, as she tried to form some words.. Shock rippled through her making her heart accelerate like a bullet train. Her plans? "This is bullshit!"
The policeman frowned at them and then lazily waved to the chair opposite to him for them to sit. Owen perched on the edge of the chair and Nessa kept on standing.
