Dark Hunger
Chapter 76 - Behind The Curtains
Caleb was going out of control when Elize rubbed his shaft. He lowered his hand and crept it inside her shirt to cup her breasts as he grazed her lips with his fangs and then opened them. He slithered his tongue right inside, feeling the taste of his mate. He moaned and kneaded her breasts as he wedged his thigh in between her legs.
Elize rubbed his shaft and it swelled achingly. She took her hands inside his shirt and then skimmed her fingers over the belt on his hair. Her fingers delved inside and she brushed his already swollen shaft. He hissed and his body shuddered at the touch. Caleb wasn't bothered that there were two more people sitting in the car because when it came to his wife, everything else faded in the background. She was about to open his buttons of the belt when, they heard demonic cries in distance
Caleb pulled away from her, his wolfy ears catching the faint sound. He grabbed her waist and held her close to him. Suddenly, the cries sounded louder. Caleb yanked Elize behind him, as he peered into the thick mist. He knocked the car and Auril and Laurel jumped out. "Take the wheel!" Caleb commanded. "The bloody demons have come closer." He seethed because he realized that the demons must have kept up their pace inside the forests and followed them with their supernatural speed.
The next moment, Auril opened the door and sat on the wheels. Caleb pushed Elize into the car and slid right next to her. Laurel had gotten out of the car. She opened the door of the passenger seat and then paused to look towards the forest.
"Get in!" Caleb shouted at her. However, as soon as she moved to his command, a shock of horns and loud cry came and her body shot up from the car into the air. She screamed as a demonic force hurled her into one of the trees, shaking it entirely on the impact. Her back smashed against the hardness of the wood and with a yell of pain, she landed on the ground.
"Fuck!" Caleb growled as both he and Auril leapt out of the car. "Stay in Elize!" he roared.
Caleb rushed to save Laurel, but when he was about to reach her, four demons struck him from every direction and he was flung onto the road. "Bastards!" he yelled at them and bolted to his feet and charged at them, his claws and fangs lengthening. He barreled into one of them, taking them by the horn and tossing him to the side. He spun and punched the next demon into his face who had kicked him on his back with his boot. The demon grunted as his body swayed and his head kicked to the side and he spat blood. He rolled over the ground.
One of the demons had reached the car. Caleb leapt at him but by the time he could grab him, the demon had punched the car and created a considerable dent, almost squashing it. Caleb heard Elize's shout and his blood lusted for killing. He grabbed the demon from behind, kicked him in the back of the knees. The demon came down with a thud. Caleb held him by his horns and snapped his neck.
He dropped the dead body of the demon on the road and within a split second he pulled her out of the car, hauled up on his shoulder. He was about to take off in a different direction when an arrow came flying from the darkness and lodged itself in the car's side just a few inches away, vibrating with a loud twang. Caleb whipped his head behind to see who did that, but all he saw was two demons coming in his direction. Auril had pulled Laurel up and they were running in the opposite direction. Caleb too turned and started running in the opposite direction.
"Caleb, put me down!" Elize shouted. "I can run as fast as you!" Her magic was hissing inside as she seethed at the demons. She wanted to burn them alive for attacking her mate. "They merely missed us by inches. I won't allow them to send another arrow!" Damn it, she felt like she was on fire. "They are clearly trying to kill me or you."
"If they wanted to kill you Elize, do you think they would have missed that arrow?" he said. Suddenly an arrow whizzed past him and scraped the skin of his bicep taking away some flesh with it.
"Fuck the bastards!" Elize shouted. "Caleb, put me down!"
He grunted and set her on her feet. Grabbing her hand, he started to run again and he was surprised that she kept up to his pace. They had merely gone two hundred feet when a torrent of arrows flew towards them. One lodged in his buttock.
"Caleb!"
"Don't stop, Elize," he rumbled and then tried to break the arrow's shaft. However, more arrows flew and two more lodged in his back. His back arched with pain and he roared, cursing them.
"Over here!" Auril called them. He was in front of an under-construction bridge at the opposite end of the road that overlooked a ravine and seemed abandoned.
Caleb ran with her over there and tossed her behind a massive column. He twisted around for her as Auril and Laurel came over. "Can you take them out?" he asked. Elize's hand shot to her mouth to stop herself from screaming. Blood drenched his shirt for they were so deeply seated inside that she grasped a jutting iron girder in the column to stop herself from shivering.
"Take them out, while I keep the demons distracted," Auril rasped.
"I will also come with you!" Laurel said and before anyone could protest, she was already heading in the direction of the demons. Auril grabbed her hand and yanked her to move in the opposite direction.
Elize swallowed hard. She had never seen real arrows in her life, let alone seeing them planted inside flesh. She held the shaft of the upper arrow and instead of pulling it out, she broke it. The arrow's head was almost jutting from the other side of his torso. If she would have taken it out, it would have probably taken a lot of flesh and damaged his important arteries. She couldn't take the chance, but she had to quickly take him to a hospital.
Caleb's back arched with pain as blood oozed out from the wound. She grasped the lower one and found that it was not that deeply planted. So she yanked it out and blood spurted like a fountain from the wound. Body shaking at the sight, she tried to stifle her scream which came out as a yelp. "I am so sorry, Caleb," she said as tears rolled out of her eyes. She had never imagined that because of her he would get into so much trouble. Caleb rested his hand on the cemented wall of the column as his chest heaved with shallow breaths. He had closed his eyes to absorb the pain. "I saw four demons. Where the hell did these arrows come from?"
"There's someone assisting the demons behind the curtains."
Elize rubbed his shaft and it swelled achingly. She took her hands inside his shirt and then skimmed her fingers over the belt on his hair.
