Dear Broom Knight
#27 - Lowry is clueless
Lowry didn't know if he was just being overly suspicious.
Pat had always been the kind of person who prioritized the interests of Yagris above all else. After getting some news from Lowry, it was normal for him to want to rush back and report it.
After all, Pat was just an 8th-level knight and was no different from the Bladeguard.
However, the information Lowry had provided didn't seem important enough to warrant Pat's haste.
So, why didn't Pat stay and comfort Lowry, especially when he was clearly a bit uneasy?
The current Barony of Gezall lacked anyone who could help Lowry steady the army's morale. It was only the 12-year-old Lowry who could calmly reassure others.
When he realized he was having such thoughts, Lowry felt a chill down his spine. How had he become like this?
Hadn't he always been someone who relied on others when possible, but didn't care if he couldn't?
But… Lowry smiled wryly to himself. Once suspicion took root, he was no longer himself.
Because of his suspicions, he couldn't even bring himself to voice his doubts as he usually would.
Fortunately, he had always been a child who didn't discuss his feelings with adults much.
So, even though he looked at Pat with a confused and reluctant gaze, Lowry didn't say anything to make him stay.
Pat called out a farewell and quickly rode away with the attendants after they unloaded the carriage.
Cheska walked in, looking confused: "Baron, Pat's mother left the carriages behind. Can we keep them?"
"If they're useful, keep them. Those are all my mother's property and have nothing to do with the County Lord's estate," Lowry said. Of course, Lowry understood why Cheska asked this… If these carriages came from the Montes territory, Lowry, having clearly separated from the family, couldn't simply keep them.
If they weren't sent back to the County Lord's estate, they would become a problem… They would have to be carefully stored in the warehouse, waiting for the former owner who would only come looking if they were used.
Pat wouldn't make a mistake in this regard. It had been made clear from the beginning that these people would only bring their horses… They all came with a pair of horses. Knights wouldn't use their mounts to pull carriages, but they usually had pack horses specifically for carrying luggage.
"Cheska, has the small lounge in my study in the castle been cleaned up?" Lowry asked casually.
Cheska replied seriously: "It's been cleaned. I did it all myself, including the small laboratory next to it. Taylor and the others haven't been in there."
Although Cheska didn't know where Lowry got all his strange things, they certainly didn't come from any illegitimate source… Lowry had been very well-connected in Montes Castle, knowing many people who were neither entirely good nor entirely bad, but not outright villains.
Compared to the people at the original baronial residence who would do anything for money, Cheska agreed more with Lowry's social circle. So, she had always kept this secret for Lowry and was willing to help him contact those people.
Proper nobles wouldn't take these things that could easily be criticized. Wouldn't it be better to live a good life?
Lowry nodded: "I'll be staying there for a while. You can find me if you need anything."
He always had a bad feeling, but no matter how he calculated it, it didn't seem to affect him and Yagris.
Even if it was the County Lord of Montes, it would just cause him some heartache… The left wing, not counting the child in the second son's wife's belly, still had five of them~
Could they all be wiped out?
Anyway, those five had inheritance rights above him, Lowry. Lowry wouldn't care if the County Lord was heartbroken about it.
From the moment he did so many things to protect these two sons, he had decided the current chaos.
Don't look at those few over there, as if they all had their own grievances, each feeling that they had something unsatisfactory. But they really dared to attack their own relatives under the County Lord's nose.
Anyway, as long as they survived, the County Lord would definitely take the initiative to protect them to save face… Helping them apologize and offering various compensations, wasn't that a form of protection?
This was the foundation that the County Lord of Montes had given them through his actions over the years.
It had nothing to do with Lowry.
So, Lowry was a little unclear about why he had been feeling uneasy lately.
Although he had learned a little bit of divination magic and had used crisis manifestation on himself several times, Lowry still knew how terrible his judgment was… He was sure that the more he thought, the more mistakes he would make.
He really needed a space where he could think independently for a while. Some things and some words seemed to carry too much meaning.
Right now, Lowry only had one very clear thought in his mind: where did those people who dared to cause trouble under the King's nose get their confidence?
The King only said a few words, and it had thrown Lowry into such a state of chaos!
Even if it was because the King's charm, which was enough to subdue a white dragon, was too powerful and made people easily believe his words, Lowry was very clear that what really threw him into a panic and made him deeply believe the King's words was the meticulous web that the King had woven as early as 13 years ago.
Although it might be because the Montes territory was a border area that required special attention, even this seemingly insignificant little thing, the King would immediately think of a way to deal with it. Then, how could the princes who caused all this change live as freely as the rumors said?
Lowry tried hard to recall the news from the palace. What he wanted to know most now was how many sons the King had… and what were they all doing now?
However, apart from those two idiot princes who were fighting so much that several great nobles were troubled, the other three, oh, one of them was said to have gone to study magic, just like the King's uncle, and directly gave up the right to inherit the throne.
To study the Awakening Array, one must simultaneously obtain the permission of the King and the Chief Mage. This power has never been allowed to be controlled by the same person.
Therefore, sometimes, even if they had the talent of a mage, some princes would choose to become knights… People with brains didn't necessarily mean they couldn't exercise.
The princes' awakening ceremonies were all conducted in secret.
Then, what about the other two? Why wasn't there any news about them?
