Dear Broom Knight

#42 - Interesting magic trap

"That is the back mountain of the Cheska family," Leon said with a smile, pointing to the steep mountain range in the distance. "Our mission is to clear that mountain. As for when it will be cleared, that depends on fate's arrangement.

However, Cheska also mentioned that some parts of this mountain are very steep, making it difficult for knights to climb. Even her own people haven't been to some areas, so she told us to be careful.

After all, it's a wild mountain, and there might be poisonous creatures.

All of you be careful. If anything embarrassing happens here, Baron Lowry will definitely not let us off, and will surely make you famous throughout the country."

Yuri slowly comforted his brothers: "Don't worry. Based on my experience dealing with that young baron, no matter how embarrassing things you do, he will attribute it to Leon.

Of course, what people say will inevitably be about the things that happen to members of Leon's adventure group.

But we all understand rumors, right?

Such a long modifier will inevitably turn into just Leon."

The people standing behind them couldn't help but laugh.

Seven strummed the strings of his lute and softly asked, "Do we go straight up the mountain? Don't we need to say hello to the manor at the foot of the mountain?"

"It seems that only Cheska's sister is there, and it's not suitable for her to entertain so many men," Yuri replied gently. "Cheska gave us some magical traps. We just need to place them in the areas she told us about.

Although I'm not quite sure how to use those things, as the owner, Cheska should be able to determine some situations, otherwise she wouldn't have set the location so rigidly."

"What kind of mage is the young baron leaning towards?" Leon asked Yuri curiously. "Did you figure it out?

Logically speaking, since he plays with fireballs so well, he should be in the evocation school.

What's so suspicious about that? He can even attract live feathers!

However, he should have other talents, but he just doesn't use them much outside.

It's understandable, given how complicated his family environment is."

"What does it have to do with him?" A tall knight standing behind them said casually. "He's the only one in the Montes family who has escaped the sea of suffering!"

"If the Montes family really can't stand, can a mere baron withstand the harassment from the surroundings?" Leon turned his head and pointed at him. "That little mage is very shrewd!

Right? Seven, did you figure out what method he used to communicate with Madam Yagris?

I'm really curious, what's so different about that long poem that you have to sing it yourself."

'Ding dong dong ding, shasha, xuxu ~ weng ~ zheng!' Seven casually plucked out a series of tunes: "It's different. The tune that Baron Lowry gave me is raised a step in the front and lowered a key in the second half."

"Say something people can understand," Leon instructed simply.

Yuri sneered: "Although he's a famous little troublemaker, Baron Lowry's art cultivation class grades must be good.

Sacred hymns can always be modified within three scales above and below, but they usually don't sound as comfortable as the original tune.

What Seven wants to say is that Lowry's revised tune uses the two-segment scale difference to form a new balance, right?

Even many bards can't do this!"

"I always feel that Baron Lowry has a more accurate and detailed scale table," Seven said blankly, "More complex than the 11-note scale I learned, and so mature that he can arbitrarily modify short-range scales."

"Wait… isn't it a seven-note scale?" One of the swordsmen, who had been silent all along, couldn't help but join the conversation, "It's the seven-stringed lute in your hand."

Seven shook his head helplessly: "Ancient tunes were 11-note, and the lutes at that time also had 11 strings.

Later, a god felt that mortals were not worthy of enjoying 11 notes like the gods, so he took away all those ancient lutes and ancient tunes, leaving only the seven-stringed lute for humans.

Until the age of the gods slowly passed, some strong men who still had memories of the past went up the mountains and down the seas, searching for various relics, and only then did they retrieve those ancient tunes."

He touched the seven-stringed lute in his hand: "Bards also lost their powerful attack power from then on because they violated the taboo of the gods.

Originally, our lutes were not only able to release auxiliary sounds."

"Well… made too much karma, and it's no wonder that even consciousness can't descend now," Leon curled his lips. "Even the evil gods have more of a presence than them.

However, it seems that this matter is not something our Lord of Storms could have done. The old man doesn't have such a meticulous mind."

"The temple is the loser, so naturally it has to bear some blame," Yuri put a hand on his forehead and looked up at the still distant mountaintop. "Our Lord of Storms' greatest notoriety is accidentally engulfing the mortal kingdom below when fighting.

But it's okay.

Anyway, not caring about the lives of mortals, the Lord of Storms probably doesn't think it's a crime at all. That's the kind of thing he could do, and he doesn't care whether humans will spread this kind of story.

So, in our Northern Kingdom these years, there have really been few incidents from the temple.

But the evil gods… heh ~ there must be something in return…"

"Yuri," Leon suddenly interrupted his friend's impending disrespectful words, "We have our own responsibilities.

No matter how much helplessness those sinners have, how many grievances there are, they don't need our understanding.

The greatest respect for them is to let them die a little more happily.

Once they enter the evil god's camp, they are no longer human… In their eyes, you are not either.

Only when you stand opposite them and stop them will they know that you are human, an enemy!"

"I know, I won't say such useless words again," Yuri lowered his long eyelashes and turned to look at the silent manor at the foot of the mountain.

"There's a valley over there that needs to be visited," Millien, the swordsman walking in the front, waved the map in his hand. "The boxes marked 'Al-Miraj' need to be buried in the center of that valley, arranged in a diamond shape.

What are those things?"

"Jackalopes," Yuri blinked. "A very stupid rabbit."

He tilted his head curiously: "What will the trap based on this kind of rabbit be like when triggered?

The sky turns dark, the wind rises, and it explodes instantly?

Did the young baron research it himself?

Ah… I really want to see it!"

With a bitter face, Leon silently slowed down, and the members of his adventure group behind him were also in the same rhythm, including Seven, who was still pondering music.

Al-Miraj are quite stupid creatures, but their unpredictable nature holds hidden dangers. They are similar in appearance to large rabbits, with long, soft fur. They have a one- to two-foot-long black horn on their forehead, which protrudes in a spiral shape like a unicorn. Most jackalopes have yellow fur, but white, pink, and even light green specimens have been sighted.

Due to some mutation in their reproduction, a small number (approximately 10%) of adult Al-Miraj possess psychic abilities. If they sit still instead of leaping to attack when facing an enemy, then that jackalope certainly has psionic abilities. These creatures almost always use their psychic abilities in the same order, as follows: manipulating light to darken the sky, manipulating wind to make the wind blow, levitating to leap into the air, and molecular agitation to heat and burn surrounding objects. Then they will use telekinesis to throw stones, manipulate flames to move flames, and detonate to explode enemy weapons and armor. After levitating, they will use wind manipulation to fly around, and their eyes will emit red light to harass enemies. If attacked physically, they will blink away.

Al-Miraj are immune to toxins.
