Dear Broom Knight

#62 - The poet who sang the storm

Chaos reigned within the walls of Montes Castle.

Outside, a deadly battle raged; inside, a cacophony of arguments filled the air.

The Earl of Montes' furious roars, combined with the fluctuating voices of his two sons as they argued and explained themselves, created a discordant symphony.

It was louder than any hymn sung to the Lord of Storms.

Pat moved gracefully through the castle, her lithe body swaying through the shadows, eventually stopping before a half-open door.

"Ah… Mr. Alan Marshall, where might you be headed?

Off to join the Lord of Storms, perhaps?"

The minstrel, dressed in an exquisite white silk shirt and light cyan silk trousers tucked into black ankle boots with five-inch heels, stood stiffly before the door… a standard-issue dimensional bag slung over his shoulder.

"How much did the Earl of Montes pay you? Even your dimensional bag is the latest model," Pat chuckled leisurely. "Such a generous master, and you were planning to leave without a word?

Especially at such a crucial moment!

Your Lord of Storms…"

Upon hearing this, Alan Marshall suddenly realized: "The traitor within the tower… it's you?

Does Madam Yagris know?"

"Yagris, of course, doesn't know," Pat replied, careful not to tarnish the reputation of the person most important to her with ambiguous words. "If it weren't for you, I could have been Yagris' dog for life, diligently serving her until the very end!

So, spare me the useless words. I know who you are, I know why you're here, and I know that if I capture you, the Lord of Storms will lose face because of his capable church!"

Alan Marshall suddenly laughed: "Madam Yagris isn't here, which puts my mind at ease.

You think you can stop me?

Do you really believe that Yagris the Great Knight's strength is your own?"

"Spare me the divisive tactics, and don't think you can probe my secrets with such clumsy methods," Pat said calmly. "I don't mind you stalling for time either.

Even if Yagris learns I'm a Tower acolyte, she'll only ask if it was my own choice."

Alan Marshall looked at her hesitantly, unsure of what Pat was trying to achieve, but he truly didn't want to attack directly… It wasn't that he thought he couldn't defeat Pat, but rather that he didn't want to reveal his true strength.

The minstrel guise he wore was merely for show. Alan Marshall wasn't foolish enough to believe he could use this charade to fight a battle-hardened knight.

So, he asked directly: "When… when did you discover me?"

"Oh, quite some time ago," Pat replied with a smile. "About two months after Yagris and I first entered this castle, I believe!"

Pat tilted her head, gazing at the shocked Storm believer, and couldn't help but recall the past.

Even though mages were rare, the scholar Madam Yagris had encountered several.

Although these old gentlemen didn't like to be too explicit, Madam Yagris had still gleaned some information related to knightly bloodlines from them.

She knew very well what kind of magical materials might harm her bloodline related to wind… Earl Grzal had provided her with many lessons.

They even knew the reason why Montes' two precious sons had never been good for anything, and it was also related to this… Scholars never talked about just one thing; they always branched out.

If the person seeking their wisdom couldn't persevere through these digressions, they could forget about ever dealing with any scholar again.

No one knew how these people buried in their studies communicated, but one person blacklisting you meant you could never enter their academic halls again.

But, those who couldn't persevere were the majority… Even some magic-based professionals couldn't do it. After all, scholars didn't consider whether their audience could understand or keep up with their pace when they discussed things.

Most people would be defeated from the very beginning… People being kicked out the door after falling asleep were common.

A Great Knight like Madam Yagris, who could remain clear-headed from the initial confusion until she understood what she wanted to know before thanking them and leaving, was actually very rare.

But she did indeed learn many things that ordinary people didn't understand because of it.

Madam Yagris would naturally become a little more understanding too.

Anyway, she had occasionally heard a scholar mention that Moka rock salt with a natural rose fragrance, if eaten too much by rhinoceroses, would cause blood clots, and even slow down the heartbeat due to poor drainage, eventually leading to unconscious death.

Although dragon-veined rhinoceroses and ordinary rhinoceroses were not exactly the same, that person didn't want people to die!

Wasn't the advancement of a knight about strengthening one's qi and blood to a certain level and breaking through certain limits within the body?

It would be difficult for someone whose blood flow was always a little slower than normal to advance.

This kind of thing clearly didn't happen because of Yagris' arrival.

Or rather, from the beginning, the Earl of Montes had entered the sights of certain people, and they were trying to delay his decision on an heir.

And Masood didn't develop those ambitions because Alex and his children had difficulty advancing.

Of course, Yagris wasn't so cold-blooded from the start. She had tried to remind the housekeeper from the previous Countess, whom Alex and Masood trusted very much, that she wasn't very competent.

Unfortunately, the Earl's first reaction was that she wanted to secure more power for Pat… This was the reason for the first conflict between Madam Yagris and the Earl of Montes.

As the Earl's wife's eyes and hands, Pat should have had this power to begin with.

Regardless of whether Madam Yagris' intentions were good or bad at the time, the Earl should have naturally handed these things over to her!

As a result, that old guy became sensitive!

Yagris wasn't a saint, so she simply chose to ignore everything.

Otherwise, why would she and Pat so generously give up the management of the entire castle?

If those two boys' kitchen was under their control, then Yagris would have had to step in and prevent some things from happening… She was a very responsible person.

But once that responsibility wasn't on their shoulders, who cared how they died?

As for now, whether Alex understood why Masood was only allergic to that kind of salt… he certainly knew.

After all, a scholar had just arrived at the Earl's castle.
