Chapter 14: Ephemeral Sense Of Relief

With wounds and bruises spread all over its body, the gorilla that was superior in reflexes and strength, yet didn’t have a full-body armor was now lying beneath the feat of the other gorilla who had slower reflex and weaker strength, yet it had a full body armor with the dark brownish stones.

Even though it was already certain that the other gorilla was clearly defeated as it couldn’t even do anything other than covering its head with both of its hands, the full-body armor gorilla didn’t kill the other gorilla nor did it leave the defeated gorilla alone.

It just kept kicking and stomping on the defeated gorilla’s body, making sure it didn’t kick the defeated gorilla’s head or chest too hard as if it was intentionally wanting to torture the defeated gorilla without killing it.

‘Well, this isn’t fun to watch anymore.’ Blake spat to his side.

After several more kicks and stomps, the full-body armor gorilla finally stopped attacking the defeated gorilla and walked away with wide steps and without a care in the world as if it was truly satisfied after beating and kicking down the defeated gorilla to its heart’s content.

And now that the fight had finished for real, Blake stopped standing on top of the tree branch and instead sat on it before thinking to himself,

‘I wonder how high their physique stat has to be that they could cause vibrations up to tens of meters away just from their punches clashing against each other...’

.....

‘Should I put more points on my physique stat the next time I level up? It’s quite cool if my punch could release a sonic boom later on if I have 1000 points in my physique stat or something...’

Thinking about how that would turn out really gave Blake a lot of excitement in his heart as he thought of a popular show called 1/2 punch boy. It’s a story where a boy was so strong that his enemies died and turned into a paste when the boy was only halfway to throwing his punch.
But after remembering all the things he could do using spells, demonic runes, and the rune formations, Blake shook his head as he reaffirmed his choice in becoming a full-fledged demon mage.

‘But adding a few stat points on my physique won’t hurt too.’

Blake then looked up his status page in his head and saw how many souls he needed left to level up and finish his quest.

(9/15 Souls)

‘Six souls left....’ Blake muttered.

Blake then opened up his bag and grabbed a fist-sized circular watch that Vera gave to him so that he could come back before dinner time since the red sun was always shining and there’s no concept of nighttime and daytime in this particular demon realm, and he had to use it to make sure that he came back to prepare himself and Vera dinner at the right time.

He asked Vera where did she get the watch, and although she told him that she got it from another realm, when he asked her how, she only smiled and told him that it didn’t matter.

Blake looked at the clock and there were still about two hours left before dinner time, so he quickly put back his watch into the spatial bag and thought,

‘Six more souls... I can do this... I will level up and finish the quest today.’

The fight between the two gorillas was still vivid in his head and he wanted himself to also have such a domineering power that no one would be able to think that he was weak and no one would be able to put him under their legs anymore.

And getting a level up, finishing up his quest, and unlocking his unknown bloodline power would be Blake’s first goal, or rather, his first true step in getting the power that he wanted, a power that he couldn’t even imagine he would be able to have before.

Blake then glanced at the defeated Gorilla that looked barely alive and still laying weakly on the ground. But without a soul hovering above its body, Blake knew that the gorilla was still barely alive.

Looking at the gorilla’s condition that seemed like its life was hanging onto a thin thread and a single nudge would be enough to end it all, Blake began thinking,

‘With its body being so weak, I could get one free soul without doing much other than casting a few runes...’

Blake didn’t know whether a simple bind spell or the tendrils spikes would be enough to kill off the gorilla that still had its partial body armor, but he was sure that his original skill with its hundreds of darkness tendrils would surely do the job properly.

With only one target, Blake could finish the whole spell in about two seconds with his left hand drawing the marking rune and his right hand drawing the mass darkness tendrils spell.

Blake also wondered whether he would get a stronger buff or even possibly more points in his unused stat when he leveled up after eating such a strong soul since he had never eaten a soul belonging to a creature that was significantly stronger than him, and he was now only two spells away from having it.

However, at the last moment, Blake spared a last glance towards the weakened gorilla before running in the opposite direction, away from the beaten gorilla, heading back to where he left the two remaining boar carcasses.

Blake wanted to get stronger, Blake was curious whether the spell that he created on his own would be strong enough to defeat an existence that he considered to be overwhelmingly strong, Blake also wanted to see whether eating a strong creature’s souls would give him more benefits, but above all that, he didn’t want the gorilla to die just like that. Dying after being kicked and stomped down when it already didn’t have the strength to fight back.

Blake realized that it was an utterly foolish decision for him to miss out on so many benefits. But may it be his conscience or the weak Blake that still had it remains planted deep inside his heart and still vividly remembers how it feels to be in the gorilla’s position, the feeling of weakness, inferiority, and helplessness that he felt back then, resurfaced again for a split second as he saw the gorilla’s condition.

Imagining himself if he didn’t get a second chance as a demon and he just died when he still had all those feelings inside his heart, Blake realized how pitiful and regretful that would be.

Blake wasn’t crazy about exacting his revenge, but if he was given the chance to do it, he would definitely take it, as even the pettiest acts such as revenge would give an ephemeral feeling of relief in the hearts of anyone who had suffered.

With that feeling, Blake decided that he would only take the gorilla’s life if he was already strong enough to take down the full-body armor gorilla.

“I will get back to you later, just you wait for me.” He muttered as went further and further away from the gorilla.
