I got as far as the garage before Ry's unsteady figure caught up with me and spun me around.

"What the hell was that about Vee?, are you up to your old tricks again?" He asked and I smiled up at him.

"Henry, trust me. This time it's for good." I said in an almost whisper and turned towards my car, he just spun me around again and I almost lost balance.

"Tell me what charade you want me to listen to this time." He said harshly and I shook my head, partly in disgust, partly in pity.

"Henry just let go of me, I'm trying as much as possible to be calm." So far so good, I've been doing a great job at it until I saw his ridiculously handsome face with that disgusting face of his 'partner'

"You're such a drama queen Vee, you should really stop this craziness and go and have a shower, you look–" The look of disgust on his face said the word he was searching for.

"Disheveled?" I finished and he nodded.

"Well thanks, I'm doing just great for someone with a missing daughter and dead granddad. I'll have a shower when I finally get Dayo off the claws of that witch, you just go in and continue getting drunk with the man that almost ruined my life 4 years ago, continue celebrating the victory of that bastard, he got what he wanted –his daughter. So go on, continue wining and dining, you won't really miss a nagging woman in your already perfect life, after all Beth would flourish now with that sickening bastard's money. I only just understand what Chloe must have felt when she left you." I said and noticed his hold on me was close to non existent. So I slipped out of it and opened my car, I glanced over at the frozen figure of the man I've loved too much for so long and the tears blurred his features. He ended up crushing me in ways I didn't think was possible. I expected him to hold me, tell me he was sorry, assure me that Dayo would be fine and we follow me to get her back from Susan, but he just stood transfixed to the ground like a piece of sculpted wood in an art museum.

"This is goodbye Ry, for good." I muttered before getting into the car and driving off the Brown property for the last time.

•••••••••••••

It was 23 minutes past 8 when I got to Lee-Vee's. Everything was just fine, clueless people wining and dinning happily, not one thing was out place and no one noticed me as I walked to the kitchen, it was the rush hour so the place was really crowded. I scanned through the crowd and my heart sank as I saw no one in semblance to Susan. I was late, thanks to the little chat with my asshole of a husband. I sank into the chair of my office as my assistant walked in. I barely acknowledged his greeting.

"Some woman came by earlier and asked after you," my ears perked up at that, I motioned for him to go on with his explanation and he brought out a brown envelope.

"She said I should give you this as soon as you came, even if I already told her that you wouldn't be coming in today." I smiled and collected the envelope from him, dreading what could be in it.

"When did she come in?" It couldn't be that long, I may have just missed her.

"Around 5 in the evening, wasn't really sure ma." The poor thing tried to recollect and I sighed and gave a wave of dismissal. I opened up the envelope to see a bloodied uniform of my daughter and I went numb, even time stopped for the few moments I used in staring blankly at the blood all over Dayo's uniform. It was only after I heard a shrill noise from my cell that I was able to blink, or breath or cry, or scream into the receiver of my phone.

"What did you do to my daughter, you sick bitch?" I was seeing beyond red already and if I had the bitch I had called my mother for 21 years anywhere close to where I was at that moment, I would have murdered her with my bare hands and face the consequences head on without regrets.

"Hey chill dear, your daughter is safe. Trust me, I wouldn't do anything to hurt my little cutie pie over here, that was just the proof you needed to be assured that your daughter is with me. Now get to the car park, your designated driver awaits." Her voice wasn't rushed, it was calm and full with mockery and glee, I wanted to jump through the phone to strangle the life out of her heavily adorned neck, my unsteady breath could testify to that.

"I'm sick and tired of all your mind games already, just go ahead and end my misery. I'm coming to you with all you asked and more, even if you want my life, I'll let you have it. But if you touch as much as a strand of my baby's hair, trust me, there'll be hell to pay for it." I finished and disconnected the call, not acknowledging the fact that she was in the middle of saying something and marched towards the slightly deserted car park. I checked my phone, partly to check the time and partly to check for texts or missed calls from Ry even if I wouldn't have missed it if he had called, my phone had been with me the entire time and the fact that he neither called nor texted shoved another wave of unpleasant emotions down my shoulders, it was like he was gloating wherever he is and singing 'good riddance' with a glass of wine in his hands. It took the love of Dayo, the only thing I was drawing strength from to take a deep breath and smile as Becky approached.
