Dream Life - Life in the Other World of Dreams
Episode 57: Preparing for Homecoming
June of the Tilia School of Magic had been counted on for remedial time.
Those who fail to reach the passing score due to their practical or pedagogical grades will be remedial at this time to complete the conditions for advancement.
Of course, there were classes for students like us who didn't need remedial education.
That was a class like a social tour.
Sorcerer Guild Sorcerers not only become court sorcerers and guild staff, but also many become magic leaders in the province. These people need a wide range of knowledge, not only because of their magic, but also because of their classes in the classroom. Of course, the center is the kind of content we take in seating classes - arithmetic, history, geography, etc. - but after all, there is the opinion that we should actually look at the scene, and that a social tour will take place.
The first-year tour destination is in the city of Doctus and is divided into a small group of about ten people, including magician guilds, adventurer guilds, workshops such as blacksmiths, inns and shops.
After the sophomore year, in the name of spreading the word, he is to go to nearby villages and cities, and even to the adventurer cities of Periclitle and Raswell Borderland.
Say, it's like a kind of excursion or a school trip.
Many people from distant backgrounds after fourth grade do not take part in this social tour and go home.
I wasn't really into social tours either, but I needed to take my transcript back to the village of Rasmore, and I had to be there until June 29th, when there was a closing ceremony.
This is Sharon's transcript, not my transcript. I have to report to my father, Guy, that although I enrolled in the second seat, I am well encouraged to study.
Me and Sharon thought we'd join a guy named Social Tour.
To do that, we need to create a group of about ten people, but we don't have the time or the handover to create such a group when we're barely in class.
When I tried to give up, Quentin Worgman called me up and decided to join his group. That group also included Elliot Wentworth, who had previously come with Quentin to hear about Professor Raspade's lecture, and Anita Isherwood, the daughter of Counsellor Isherwood.
It's Quentin, but once a month, I'm getting into the woods, and I'm gaining a lot of strength. He studied more voluntarily in the library, sometimes with us. As a result, there is also a considerable increase in knowledge of magic, and with a little more effort, you may be able to take Professor Raspade's lecture.
I went to the Adventurer Guild first, but in our case, the Adventurer Guild can almost be called a workplace. I came here with the intention of dating, but this was pretty funny.
Even though I've said I've been here many times, I've never been to the room of the guild manager - a common name, in this case referring to the Doctus branch manager - and I've never seen the sorting work after the purchase of the material, etc.
From the inside of the reception counter, it was also a fresh experience to see the adventurers.
When I was inside the reception counter, Gerald, the second-degree adventurer I worked with, found me,
"If you think it's someone, isn't it Zach? My Lord, the Little Demon Swordsman of True Darkness, will you accept me? That would be an honor."
I said, I'm making fun of you.
I stared at him with a subtle face and couldn't find a word to return it.
And even more Quentin came after us.
He made his eyes suck,
"Mr. Lockhart is amazing! I have two names at that age."
That's what I'm saying.
Of course, no offense whatsoever to him, and I'm sure he sincerely thinks so, but I'm too embarrassed to want to escape the scene.
In addition, tours of each workshop, such as blacksmithing, sewing, barrel making and brewing, will be conducted over several days.
Some are looking at it in the village of Rasmore, but it is just a big city of 15,000 people - in this world it is said to be a big city if it is more than 10,000 people - and every workshop was large and interesting to watch.
The last time I went to the Mage Guild, the one who responded was Miles Isherwood, Counsellor of the Board of Education and Research.
I hear the councillor is the same age as Senator Worgman, but he looks considerably younger than the senator. It's a refreshing second, and it certainly contrasts with the wild Senator Wargman.
The Counsellor smiled refreshingly and put a welcome word on us.
"Welcome to the Mage Guild. Some faces seem to have found out, but introduce yourself. I'm Miles Isherwood with the Board of Education and Research, who also administers your college. Let me show you."
It's a good talking per capita, and if you don't know his nature, you're going to mistake him for a good guy.
I'll look inside the guild with his guidance, but there's not a single thing interesting about just having the officials who seem busy.
The high number of elite class superiors in this membership made it possible to show the Council room in particular as well. That said, the Council is not in session, it just has a round table lined with twelve chairs, and it just looks like a conference room.
"The policies of the Mage's Guild, which extends throughout the world, will be decided here and elsewhere. Some of these people will be sitting here in the future."
Counselor Isherwood saw Quentin and me as chillies and said so.
(I know you know I'm the chief, but thank you. I don't like the attention you get from him. You don't know exactly what I was doing in the shadows, but you might be trying to use me to get Senator Worgman off the hook...)
Quentin thought of Counselor Isherwood as a friend of his father who often came to the house, smiling back at him even when he received the Counsellor's gaze.
(I wonder what would happen if Quentin found out about the councillor's nature. If I said that, I wonder what I would do if I knew the nature of the senator who is my father......)
I was trying to be as discreet as I could with that in mind.
When I leave the Sorcerer's Guild, I exhale. Because I was stressed because I was with Counselor Isherwood, but Elliot Wentworth, who saw it, called out.
"Mr. Lockhart, but you're nervous in the Sorcerer's Guild. I wasn't nervous."
Apparently, he mistakenly assumes that I was nervous about Counsellor Isherwood, the great man (...).
I recently learned that Elliot is the second son of the Count family of the Kingdom of Sartooth - a kingdom of the north where magic flourishes - and it was about him to say the direct line of the Count family that Teaching Bennett was saying after school.
I keep talking while I'm thinking about it.
"... Well, I've seen the King before, so I'm not as nervous as the guild councillor..."
I thought this was normal, thinking I was a happy kid.
(I guess Quentin or Elliot is the reaction of a normal twelve- or three-year-old. There's a lot going on with these guys, and you'll realize that this was the happiest time right now. Well, after forty...)
With that in mind, I went back to college.
Tria calendar 313, June 29.
There will be a graduation ceremony at the Tilia School of Magic.
We were at the ceremony as school students.
This time Senator Worgman was present as the Magician Guild representative, and the chief student greeting him not only as a college official below the Dean, but also as a general graduate, was nervous about the bees.
(Graduating as chief probably means being an employee of the Alliance. Because if the next council president, Senator Wargman, is here, he can't help but be nervous. It's like the next president of my company is here for graduation...)
The graduation ceremony ends and the ceremony continues.
The closing ceremony felt similar to Japanese elementary and secondary schools, only with cautions during the holidays, etc.
At the end of the closing ceremony, transcripts are distributed in the classroom.
I don't give a shit, but those with lower grades are pretty nervous. Because they could move from this group, the elite class, to the general class, from two to one of the five.
The results are obvious because the grades will show the grade order. If my ranking is not within forty, I will move to another class.
In the meantime, Bennett's teaching, which was previously so hostile, is now normally handed down in the order of seats.
He calls me "Mr. Lockhart," and I go to him.
"You are the chief of these two hundred and eighty-one terms. Keep up the good work."
That's what I said. I've handed you a round transcript in cylindrical form. I'll thank you and go back to my seat.
Next, Sharon was also handed a transcript.
Naturally, it's the second seat, but Sharon still had the look of being incredible, and he was stunned, "Am I the second seat... really". I still don't seem used to being the second seat.
The transcripts are then handed to the students - about thirty - who have not returned home.
And the moment the student, who was given about the thirty-fifth, opened his transcript, he cried. Apparently, we couldn't secure a place within forty.
Looking back, there are about two more tears, and at least three seem to be replaced.
(You must regret it. I know this system works for bottom up grades, but I feel harsh going through this kind of competitive society this year... if I say that, is it the same in the original world)
There was a brief greeting from the Bennett teaching, and that led to its dissolution.
As we tried to get home, Quentin approached us.
When he said, "Are you going home for the holidays? I've asked," so I say I intend to. I'm a little disappointed, and listening to you, it looks like you wanted to go into the woods with me during the holidays.
We're leaving tomorrow for our hometown of Rasmore.
Liddy and Beatrice asked me if it would be okay if I enjoyed the summer solstice festival the day after tomorrow, but I wanted to go home as soon as I could.
Sharon seems to feel the same way, and in the end, he leaves Doctus tomorrow, June 30.
Sharon's father and squire Guy Jakes told me about the escort to get there, but this time he refuses to escort the squire because we are strong enough and Beatrice, a third-degree adventurer, is accompanied.
Although there was a graduation ceremony and a closing ceremony, it is still before noon and I will be ready to leave tomorrow by the end of the day.
The house will be vacant for about two months, but it's not like I have any big stuff, so I was going to leave the management to the realtor McCloud.
I already bought souvenirs for the village, books, magic items, seasonings, etc. Also prepared is a cloak with waterproof blade function, a souvenir to Mel and Dan.
This cloak, but when I buy Mel and Dan's, I also buy Liddy and Beatrice's. Liddy remembered exactly what I said when I bought Sharon's cloak.
In the end, it ended up shopping as much as 10,000 C (krona) (= 10 million yen) in four clothes, but there was no problem because it was covered by the money made from the printing technology.
This cloak, but I had a camouflage woodland pattern made for Dan. It was a light sense of play for me, but Beatrice, who saw it, liked it a lot and decided to camouflage her share as well.
So, my playfulness lit up even more.
They made Tiger Stripe stuff for Beatrice of the Wang Tiger Clan.
That was good, but two of the leather protection craftsmen, Rufus and Rachel, said they wanted to like this pattern and wanted to use it as a standard design. In time, I may be able to do some camouflage leather armor, but I don't feel like I fit into a fantastic world.
By the way, Liddy turned it into the same dark moss green as Sharon's, and the one for Mel turned it into a reddish, choked brown object.
I thought I'd make a new cape too, but it's still fully usable, and the opposite voices around me are loud, and I haven't bought it again. Which means I'm still using a pitch-black cape.
The next morning, I greet the Novello and Littriff families next door and leave.
Horses use horses on loan in the Adventurer Guild.
Adventurer and Mercenary guilds lend horses. And the convenience of this is that you don't have to return it to where you rented it. If there are branches of both guilds, they will pick it up on the spot and return the deposit.
And instead of going slow like before this time, I was going to increase the distance traveled for the day. From Doctus to the village of Rasmore is about three hundred and seventy km. Last time I had a problem called heavy rain, it took me seventeen days. This time around, the safe Aurelia streets - the main streets connecting the commercial city of Aulera in the west with the adventurer's city of Periclitle in the east - are meant to travel between forty and fifty km per day. The Ars streets ahead of Periclitle - the streets connecting Periclitle to Ars, king capital of the Kingdom of Kaum - are going to return to the village of Rasmore in just over ten days because they are going to shorten the distance travelled due to the many dangers.
I left Doctus at eight in the morning.
It's a refreshing early summer morning and the weather is great for departure. We headed east on Aurelia Street.
Tomorrow is July 1st. I mean, summer solstice day.
Summer solstice festivals are held at various locations on summer solstice days. The city has been full of people since yesterday because the best city around here is Doctus.
Few depart from the city, refraining from tomorrow's festival.
Sometimes it's usually a major street, and this time of the morning, it's a rough ride, but the streets were pretty empty.
While we were on the lookout for our surroundings, it was also our first trip together, and we walked our horses with ease.
