Dream Life - Life in the Other World of Dreams
Episode XII: Sales
Leaving the blacksmith Guiselhale's shop, we returned to the “Nest of the Rough Eagle” pavilion where we stayed.
Sometimes at five o'clock in the evening, the adventurers staying in enter the inn one after the other.
We need water for Mira, the general, to use the bathroom.
Being ready in about thirty minutes, I decided to wave my sword in the backyard as usual.
I begin to wave my sword near the stables, but I am concerned about the eyes of the returning adventurers. No one spoke up, but I guess it's unusual for a child to wave a sword in the Inn for Adventurers.
(I guess I should have started somewhere a little less conspicuous. Sort of. Anyway, it's not that big of a backyard, and it would have been the same thing in a nearby square)
Such clutter floats at first, but gradually disappears when you start waving your sword.
I liked the feeling that I was going to be this heartless. There was nothing in my previous life that I could concentrate on enough to be heartless. I don't think I would have lived such a grey life if I had put myself into something in my previous life.
If you keep waving your sword for about thirty minutes while the semi beeps in May, it can be before sundown in summer, making your whole body sweaty.
After making a bare gesture to the point I was satisfied, I went back to my room and headed to the bathroom with my change of clothes.
The bathroom was next to the kitchen on the ground floor, once divided between a man and a woman.
Once inside, there was no tub and there was just a big bite on the cobblestone floor.
(I knew you didn't have a tub... if it wasn't a fancy inn like a big merchant staying in, you wouldn't have a tub)
Disappointed but using soap, he sweats.
(It's this time of summer, I don't care if I don't have a tub, but I have to think of something in Doctus...)
Regarding the changed clothes, except for the underwear, it is a leather product, so maintenance is carried out in the room. As for my underwear, I was going to wash it myself at first, but Guy is tough against it and has Sharon washing it for me. But I really feel the lights on giving dirty underwear to a ten-year-old girl.
Guy, Liddy and Sharon are also done sweating and going down to the dining room. I don't know if Liddy blew it off either, or if he decided it was relatively safe on the road ahead, but he's exposed.
Me and Sharon didn't have a sword, and Guy and Liddy walked into the dining room with a sword.
It was after 6pm and the dining room was pretty crowded.
Still, there were still empty seats in the large dining room, securing one table seat.
The waitress picked up the order.
"Please choose from the main dish where fish is the main dish and meat is the main dish. Alcohol is ale and beer, plus wine. A separate fee of thirty e (ale) (= three hundred yen) per cup is charged. You can have a simple knob too, so speak up."
We ordered fish food, Guy had beer, and Liddy had white wine.
Dinner comes out in about enough. I chilled Liddy's wine as usual, plus Guy's beer chilled to the brisk. Guy was frightened at first but looked satisfied after a sip.
The main fish dish was trout poile, exquisite with a rich butter with a refreshing vanilla sauce and a trout body lightly spiced. I had this other vegetable consomme-like soup and Campagne like bread, both of which were pretty good.
(So was lunch, but you're a pretty good skilled cook. Again, wholesale scotch to this store. And then there's the hauling and selling... about the selling, but a guy named Yoan seems to be reliable when it comes to food, so selling barrels won't degrade the quality. The question is how do we get this far...)
What I thought on this trip was that the road from the village of Rasmore to Periclitle is difficult to carry cracks. There was also the difficulty of Karsh, which meant that it was costly for the Lockhart family to tailor their own carriage.
(Unless you can reason to stop by, the merchants won't be coming to the village of Rasmore. So far, the village is self-sufficient. If it's a little something, you can bribe a pedestrian coming from Kilnarek, so you don't have to carry supplies to the village...)
I was wondering if I could use Norton's merchant squad. This time, I accidentally accompanied him, but his merchants are carrying weapons and other iron products from Ars. As a result, carriages are durable enough to withstand heavy goods, but for that matter their legs are slow and they are necked thirty-five km from Bogwood, the border city of the Kingdom of Kaum, to Kilnarek.
Twenty km from Bogwood to the village of Rasmore and twenty-five km from the village of Rasmore to Kilnarek. Just the right distance for the itinerary. Byron, who leads the escort further, is a prudent man and safe. The problem is the bad road from Als Street to Rasmore Village.
(Norton's stop at Lasmore Village is less beneficial to me as I build my way. We need to think about the incentives that make him want to stop by Rasmore Village...... right! The Lockhart family can carry you to Kilnarek...)
I realized I didn't have to force Rasmore Village to call a merchant squad. Until they start selling explosively, luxury items such as Scotch won't have to be transported that often. One or two barrels a month is enough for the first one, so you can have the wagon load reduced for that.
Lighter loads of wagons make it easier to travel on the Als streets that follow mountain roads, and for that matter, unforeseen things are less likely to happen. Especially if it rains between Bogwood and Kilnarek, the benefits should be enormous because the chances of camping are diminished.
Naturally, as much as the load from Ars decreases, so will the profits rising from the weapons, but if the risk of transport is lowered, Scotch's profit margin for transport is also beneficial.
(Let's visit Norton's Chamber of Commerce tomorrow as well. And then you should also talk to Byron who looks like he's been dating for a long time...)
A single policy will be put in place to tell Guys about Scotch's transport and what he plans to do tomorrow.
"... so I'd like to visit Norton's Chamber of Commerce and Byron tomorrow, did you have any plans?
"Originally, I was thinking about going to the North District, which is a commercial district tomorrow, so nothing is wrong. But, Lord Norton, it's subtle if Byron gets caught."
When you ask me what I mean,
"I'm a mercenary after a job, so I'll be taking my wings off today and tomorrow. I think he's more likely to be in a colored street in the West End."
Sharon tilted his neck when he heard of the colored streets and was questioning Guy, his father. Guy was answering in difficulty about how to explain it. Me and Liddy were smiling at the way it looked.
"But can I decide on my own? Don't you have permission for Matt - my father Masaias Lockhart?
I shake my head to the side to ask Liddy.
"I'm fine. I've spoken to your father beforehand, and I'm in charge of this. Well, I know at first one of us will carry it to Kilnarek and have it picked up, but if we leave this area to Nicholas - Nicholas Garland, the housekeeper - he'll figure it out."
After dinner I hold a bottle of Scotch and sit at the counter with Guy.
In anticipation of the timing of the dish's passage, I called Joan, the innkeeper.
"I have some interesting liquor, why don't you lick it?
To one of my words, "You think it's funny booze?" and Yoan eats up.
"It's something I've probably never drank. It's a specialty from my hometown of Rasmore Village, but now it's a special drink that I only sell to Dwarves in Ars..."
I'm going to explain Scotch, but gradually I'm going to get fever.
"... yet, a young liquor, but a little more sleep would make it better. The Dwarves of Ars are liquors sold for a jock, two silver coins, or 20C (krona) …"
Yoan rounds his eyes to an amount of twenty C.
"Twenty C... what kind of booze is that? Is that what's in there?
He seemed to see an elongated pottery bottle.
When I nod to the eagle fry, I take out the wooden cup and pour out the scotch.
"I have a strong alcohol content, so drink it to lick it. Five or six times stronger than Ale."
Place magically made ice in a scotch placed in a wooden cup.
Seeing my magic, Joan said, "Were you a magician?" I'm surprised, "he said, still seems to draw more interest from alcohol," I don't care about that. Let me drink fast, "he complains.
While I put the cup in front of Yoan, I draw attention to how to drink it.
"At first I want you to taste the fragrance. If it seems too strong, it should be good to add water and dilute it."
But Joan's heart is nailed to the fine liquor in front of him, and my story doesn't seem to be in his ear.
He gobbles his throat and puts his mouth on the cup. Immediately afterwards, it was jealous of the strong alcohol odor.
"Holy shit, this booze... but it sure smells unusual. It's not just the smell of barrel trees...... hey, what are you adding to this guy?
"I didn't add anything. The only ingredients are wheat, water, and yeast to ferment it."
Yoan tilts his neck at my words.
"No, he says my tongue and nose are different. Check with the guy who made this."
I'm worried for a moment about how to answer that.
"I'm the one who figured out (...) how to make it. So definitely not mixed"
Yoan opens his eyes and releases his mouth from the cup. And towards Guy,
"Not that I doubt it, but is it true? Kids like this... Guy, you're not responsible for me."
"Oh, Master Zach is right. This is something that this person thinks about and makes the head of liquor production in the village."
Yoan looks at me, shakes his head small, says, "You don't seem to be in charge," and puts his mouth on Scotch again. And he drinks up the contents of the cup and wants me to drink straight without ice.
I silently poured a small amount of raw "Kiki" scotch out of the bottle.
He slowly keeps his mouth shut on the cup. For a moment, he flaunted his face but immediately included it in his mouth to ascertain the fragrance.
The dining room is surrounded by hustle and bustle, but strange tranquillity reigned around us.
After a while, Yoan starts to share his thoughts like he squeals.
"With ice, it's easy to drink, but we can't make ice. It is strong enough to be divided by water. Hey, Zach. You let me drink this because you want to sell it here?
When I snort, I keep talking.
"I think this booze is good too. But it's too expensive. Twenty C isn't the same as making a day's worth of money for a fifth class. Guess the only guy who tries to drink like that is a Dwarf who likes alcohol."
I thought we could talk about the price, so I was thinking about what to do.
"In the first place, this guy named Scotch isn't a jock and gab drinker. It's something to taste and drink, like right now. So you just have to sell it in smaller cups, little by little. Besides, I am only going to sell it to stores that know the flavour because the production volume is low so far. I'm only going to keep one or two houses in Periclitle. Besides, it has become quite a reputation among the Dwarves of Ars. So, worst of all, if you sell it to the Dwarf craftsmen, you'll make enough money."
I suggested I could sell exclusively, and I made it my policy to make people understand that there were sales channels.
The Dwarves in this city are craftsmen and adventurers. Craftsmen are also involved in the manufacture of firearms, so I like the income there. Adventurer dwarves are also few below the seventh level (beginners), so they have money there.
I can't insult Dwarf's network any more. Rumors of alcohol gaining a reputation in Ars could have already reached Dwarves in this city through fellow blacksmiths.
As you can see from the blacksmiths of Ars, the Dwarves have no thread on gold when it comes to drinking. So even if I can't sell to regular customers, I figured if I explained that business would be formed, Joan would come aboard.
Yoan said, "How much is a barrel, by the way?," he asked anxiously.
"The Dwarves of Ars will buy it for a thousand C (= one million yen). As a Lockhart family, we can't increase production, so if we don't, we don't make money."
Yoan mutters, "Thousand C..."
Though the inn thrives in this city, I guess it's pretty tough to multiply it by a million yen for a single purchase.
"You can pay me later for anything you want."
When I say that, Joan says, "Are you sure!" Raise your voice.
"I don't know what to say instead, but there are two conditions. One thing is that things are to be handed over to Kilnarek. Which means you have transport costs and transport risks."
"Transportation costs... I don't have a merchant's handout, but can you do something about it there?
I snort at his inquiry.
"Tomorrow, I'm going to negotiate that. At least we're gonna wrap up the negotiations the day after tomorrow."
"Okay. Let me look at the cost and think. So, what's the other condition?
"This one's easy. Our liquor is to be sold here alone. Which means no resales."
Yoan nods, tilting his neck just a little.
"There's no difference between me, but why don't you let me know?"
"The reason is simple. As far as I'm concerned, I don't want to lose the quality of our liquor. Here, they definitely serve alcohol for good. Because I believed that, Yoan, I'm selling it to you. But I guess it doesn't necessarily mean the rest of them will sell it the same way. Not unless someone else mixes alcohol or shuts up and adds water."
Yoan nods loudly at my words and breaks his face, "I'm going to understand you very well."
"I can serve all that food. There can't be a lack of attention to flavor. I don't think a cook like that would make a mess of it."
The detailed arrangements will then be checked.
"Either way, we're not talking about this right now. Guy's gonna stop by here in a month or so, so you just have to let me know the answer there."
Yoan nods cocklessly, where he sees Guy as a little hard to say.
"Guy, you really are ten years old Zach. When I talk to you, I think you're only older than me..."
Guy looks a little troubled about how to answer,
"Definitely just turned ten. Well, I don't think it's funny what you think."
