Dream Life - Life in the Other World of Dreams
Episode 31: Information Gathered
September 29th.
We received new information from Sci Furman, a quaternary adventurer who asked for information gathering, and requested additional investigations.
And to more certainly explore the mastermind, as planned, I headed to the college.
In the morning there are classes in the classroom, so I decided to meet with Bennett Teaching, who is in charge first thing in the afternoon.
When I entered the old town for the first time in seven days, I felt restless throughout, either because I was refraining from the festival the day after tomorrow - the harvest festival to coincide with the autumn day.
Upon entering the college, the trend becomes even more pronounced and students are seen heading for practical skills classes with pleasure and a soothing feeling.
(With that said, you've only seen this world festival from the village. Will the eve festival start tomorrow...... suppose Liddy, Sharon and the three of us enjoy the New Town festival)
I could afford it.
Even if it gets hard to stay in college, I know I have little to worry about getting kicked out of the city, but the fact that I'm starting to go into the woods and level up well also affects that.
With regard to magic, it was also significant that I made friendships with Liddy's old friend, Professor Kitley Erbain. Not only is she knowledgeable, she explains well. Thanks to this, I am also gradually beginning to know how to use dark attributes and metallicity, which I did not like.
(To be honest, it makes little sense to be in college, at least while you're in junior year. So far, the only advantage is that libraries are free to use. Well, it's a shame when it comes to sparing tuition paid a year, but as rumors have it, if a private school does tuition waivers or a shoulder replacement for library expenses, there are few disadvantages...)
With that in mind, I headed to the faculty room. And I find Bennett teaching, and "I need to talk to you," I make a serious look and talk to him.
When Bennett looked at my face, he looked surprised, but looked at my troubled face and was smiling.
(You're an easy guy to understand. When you look so blatantly happy, you're going to lose confidence. I'm starting to think he's just a really childish guy...)
When he dares to put his inner anxiety on his face, Bennett seems to have conveniently misunderstood me, and his expression gets even brighter.
(Maybe he's responding with a smile, trying to encourage me to be depressed, but that won't happen...)
"What's wrong? Mr. Lockhart."
To act like I don't know what to say to the person I only met a few days ago, I lean over and say, "Oh, um... actually..." as if I were stuck in words, then slowly raise my face like I'm squeezing my courage.
"Actually... me and Miss Jakes are thinking about quitting college. So... I came to ask you what procedure to follow."
Bennett pretends to be comforted while the chief and second princes say something about leaving the college. But soon he said, "You seem determined. I don't have a choice, but I'll give you the exit papers," he said, putting out two sheets of paper from his desk drawer.
(That's just what I'm ready for. I won't tell you how I dislike this one, and you seem to have a mastermind as I thought...)
Bennett struggles to contain his voice from about to bounce, "I'm not supposed to return tuition, but I'll hang you up," he says, pushing my back.
I'll be reporting this to my liaison officer by the end of the day.
"It's a festival starting tomorrow, and I'll think about it slowly. Thank you for the tuition."
In my words, "Right. You don't have to rush to a conclusion, but if you're going to re-enter somewhere else, I think it's easier to make friends as soon as possible," he starts convincing with a cat stroke.
I said, "Thank you. I'll keep going home today," he bowed his head and left the faculty room.
And when I went outside the college, I caught sight of a rhino on stakeout.
(At that rate, you're going to be able to find a liaison soon. The problem is then. Worst of all, even if I can't find the mastermind, I've decided to do it. Well, I guess we can take action about the day after the harvest festival)
I walked straight through the old town and went home.
When I get home, Liddy, who saw the drop-out report, is outraged.
I have a spare look, flickering my exit papers.
"Thanks to this guy, I found out Bennett was a tool. Besides, you can't normally see a drop-out form (something like this). You should think you've seen something interesting."
Restore a little calm to my words and say, "Right. Now you're right," he laughed.
I turned to Liddy and Sharon,
"At any rate, I can't move until Mr. Rhino's report arrives. Corner, I have a festival tomorrow. Forget the bad things for two days."
They both nodded with a smile.
September 30th was the eve of the festival.
In Doctus, the festival takes place in two places: the old town side and the new town side. We decided to see the New Town side and went to the square of the commercial district just south of the New Town, just south of the Old Town.
We got to the square about noon ago, but there was already a lot of people overflowing there. Exactly. It was also a large city with 10,000 people in the new city alone, and it was so crowded that it was comparable to the Japanese festival.
In the square a street performer showed a juggling kind of art and a bard sang a song. Furthermore, a large tent like a circus was created, in which a monster for spectacles was placed in a cage, the sign said.
I was interested in the spectacle and said to them, "Why don't you come inside?"
Liddy doesn't seem very interested and says, "I can't see a big deal," but Sharon says, "That sounds interesting."
I said to Liddy, "You can wait for me somewhere. There are a lot of stalls, and I don't mind if you have a drink," she said, "but she didn't like to leave me or something like that came along reluctantly.
Pay one large copper coin (fifty e (ale) = five hundred yen) for the admission fee and the three of us go inside.
When we went inside, the smell of the beast was full, and we were staring.
Inside it feels like a passage divided by cloth, and from afar I hear roars like beasts and rattles rocking cages.
A little further, there were familiar goblins and oak cages, and further, there were beast-based demons such as the gray monkey Gray Ape and the swordtooth tiger Sabertiger.
As we proceeded to the back, did we become a rare demon, some insect- and plant-based demons, and as the biggest spectacle, even small ground dragons were put in cages.
And Liddy said to this, "Wow. It's a small, but real, ground dragon. I honestly was surprised to find the second-degree equivalent of a demon alive."
Fresh air fills our lungs when we leave the tent, and we exhale.
When I said, "That was pretty funny," Sharon nodded loudly, and Liddy said, "Right. I think it was better than I imagined," he admitted reluctantly.
As I smiled at the trick, I took their hand and started walking from the square, the festival venue, to see the outdoor shop.
The outdoor shop was many on the road leading to the square, with food, drinks, accessories and other accessories for sale. They call it a rare magic tool inside, selling suspicious tools, but the people on the road didn't show much interest.
I can't seem to sell such a suspicious object to a resident of an academic city that is just overflowing with magic props.
He was also a great crowd on the next day of the festival.
You've been drinking since last night, drunks are sleeping in the square, kids are running around having fun.
It's the size that's different, and basically doesn't seem very different from the Rasmore Village Festival.
Only Sharon remained surprised by the number of people and the variety of arts performed by the artists.
When I asked him what he thought, he shook his neck as a pull and only answered, "It's amazing".
Thus, the two days of the festival forgot what happened at the College and enjoyed it fully.
The morning of October 2nd.
As the festival's whimsical aftertaste lingered, a rhino came to the house asking to gather information.
When he saw my face, he said, "Bennett found out who he met." The face had a satisfying grin.
"I'm Quentin Worgman's tutor. His name is Archie Croft..."
Teaching Bennett said he contacted the Wargman family immediately after I went to college and met Croft that night in a dining room in the Old Town.
"It's a croft, but it's an interesting background to look into. At first I worked in private school in research, but I didn't seem to be able to achieve results. It is said that he was dismissed from private school ten years ago because of it. After that, I was temporarily an employee of the Alliance, but I became Quentin's tutor eight years ago. I don't even know how it happened, but it stinks."
I said, "Does it stink?," he muttered.
"That's right. The first thing that bothered me was eight years ago. Speaking of eight years ago, it was the year Senator Worgman returned to Doctus from Sartooth - a kingdom in the north, a kingdom inhabited by many elves"
I wondered what was bothering me about that.
"Because you're back from Sartooth, didn't you put a tutor on Quentin when he turned four? Sounds pretty normal to me, though?
He laughed niggardly and said, "Finally, I could poke at your point," and then said happily,
"Speaking of eight years ago, it was when Senator Wargman and Councillor Isherwood reconciled. Counselor Isherwood is a strong HR person. How Croft got a job in the Alliance. Counselor Isherwood's breath is undeniable, isn't it?
I seemed a little messed up at the festival.
Indeed, he's right, the fact that he was recruited halfway by the Alliance officials stinks. The Mage Guild is a more closed organization than any other. And the more hiring changes depending on which seat you graduated from Tilia School of Magic, the more influential the college is. It's no strange story to think that there's something behind Croft being hired by officials halfway through his research career in a private school that rivals the School of Magic in such a guild.
"By saying this far, you're taking the back, aren't you?
When I said that, he laughed niggly and started explaining it from another story.
"Let's start with some interesting information. Ten years ago, Counsellor Isherwood was in charge of the HR Committee. And Speaker Seberg was the councillor of the HR committee at the time. And by then, Speaker Seberg had rumors of a scandal..."
Ten years ago, researchers at the Tilia School of Magic said they had tried to move to private school in large numbers. Three major private schools joined forces to solicit sponsors through commercial guilds and use the funds to pull out young researchers.
When the Sorcerer's Guild grabs that information, naturally, the HR Committee will respond. Counsellor Seberg at the time was even said to have a poor compromise with his boss, the chairman of the committee, and to have little chance of being nominated as the next councillor. For that reason, Seberg conspired with his men, Ibbetson, to hold their chairman of the committee accountable and plot to wipe it out politically.
The ploy was to pull the researchers out to private school and push the full responsibility to the chairman of the committee. They put pressure on HR Committee officials not to let them stop the pull-out.
Seberg intends to pull the researchers back again after the chairman of the committee took responsibility and blamed them, saying that he was covenant on feeding the post and the cost of the research. And he named it HR Exchange, and in a short period of time he pulled all researchers back.
Thus, his plot ended successfully. However, rumors began to circulate that the HR Committee's Sabotage was led by Seberg.
Seberg was in a hurry about the rumor. If the next councilman's chair is in front of him, but he paints "Mami" on the scandal, instead of getting the councilman's chair, he even loses his current position in the guild.
"... That's where Isherwood said he had a leap. He has shown Seberg that the source of the rumors is someone familiar with the information in the private school, and he has secured the person, so he can do something about the rumors. So she told me to reuse myself. Of course, Seberg didn't trust him. Seberg suspected Isherwood might have sprayed rumors. And Seberg didn't have the guts to put such a dangerous guy in his nostalgia. But Ibbetson was different..."
Rep. Ibbetson decided to use him, while realizing the ambitions of young Isherwood. And Senator Ibbetson was ingenious.
Suggesting that Isherwood look ostensibly conflicted, we masterfully concealed our relationship and brought those more familiar with private school information to our side. When Seberg's conspiracy came to light, he actively exposed the injustice and tried to hold Seberg alone accountable.
That's how he kept his insurance, while Ibbetson carried out a rumor fire extinguishing in the form of selling a favor to Seberg. He further ordered Isherwood to oust his rivals so that Seberg could become a councillor. As a result, Seberg became a councillor, with Ibbetson as his successor.
In other words, Isherwood also decided to work with that next Ibbetson rather than with Seberg, where the scandal was likely to be discovered. On the condition, of course, that in the future I will be nominated as his successor.
"I mean, Counselor Isherwood says he's connected to Senator Ibbetson."
"That's what I'm saying. Well, suppose what I did was right. This rumor is told only in part of the Sorcerer's Guild."
I wondered how I had access to such information and asked, "Who told you that?," he asked. rhinos gave people a wicked grin,
"One is Professor Erbain - Liddy's old friend, Kitty Erbain. She said she was about to get caught up in the commotion, too. And the other can't say his name, but he's a private school associate. At the time, they said they had Seberg at their fingertips."
(Does that mean the information is highly credible? If Isherwood and Ibbetson are fighting together, it's not strange to hang on to getting rid of Senator Worgman. What happened to the tutor croft story? Is it Croft who's familiar with the private school information I was saying?
"Are you a Quentin tutor, Croft, familiar with the private school information you were just saying?
The rhino prefaced, "I hope you're right,"
"Actually, I'm not sure. There is no doubt that Ibbetson deposited private school officials with Isherwood. If I kept it on my own, I guess I thought Speaker Seberg would suspect it. I don't think Ibbetson fully trusted Isherwood either, but I'm not sure if he held any weaknesses, or if he thought he could tie them up with his own promise to succeed him, either, around there."
"In other words, Croft said he was likely a person with the breath of Senator Ibbetson and Councillor Isherwood. But you used to tutor people like that, didn't you, Senator Worgman?"
"I don't know how far Senator Worgman knows this story. It's about him, so after figuring it out, maybe he was going to turn it into a trump card to Ibbetson or Isherwood..."
I listened to the rhino.
(There's no way a cutter like Wargman doesn't know about the Seberg scandal. Possible would be that Isherwood told him about it and that Croft would be the trump card to Seberg and Ibbetson. I guess Ibbetson didn't want such a dangerous croft to go to Wargman the Cut, either, but in order to get Isherwood to get information on the Wargman family, he probably convinced someone that Wargman wouldn't want him to quit, that is, a croft worth using otherwise would be the best... but mostly I'm guessing... now, how to make use of this information...)
The rhinos then gave us newly collected information, the reputation of Congressman Worgman in the commercial and mercenary guilds of the new city.
Even the commercial guild has a good reputation for Senator Worgman, who hopes that if he is chaired, the researchers will be revamped and new technological innovations will occur.
Even the mercenary guild has a good reputation for Senator Worgman. If his policies are implemented, he seems to expect more mercenaries of magicians, as many magicians become instant warriors.
I remember coming to Doctus on the road,
(Certainly because it's the difference between cloud mud and no magician against demons coming from the sky...)
I thanked the rhinos and promised to go through the process to make sure they were paid by October 4th.
He tapped me lightly on the shoulder,
"This job was interesting. What you think was fresh for me. Also, request information whenever you want it. I'll let you do it first."
That's what he said and walked away.
I decided to figure out a way to solve this based on this information.
