Dream Life - Life in the Other World of Dreams
Episode XXXIII:
After 7pm on October 2nd.
I was taken to the headquarters of the Sorcerer's Guild by a secretary-like official into the office of the Guild's councillor, Senator Worgman. Inside, a man in his mid-thirties sat at a large desk and looked at the paperwork.
The appearance was very different from what I had imagined.
(The guy who became a senator in his mid-thirties, so I thought it would feel sharper. Looks like he's in the village of Rasmore, he's got a relaxed impression...)
I imagined myself as a skinny, sharp-eyed, brilliant official. But the person in front of me had an impressive obese puffy shape and smaller round eyes, and I thought they seemed better suited, like a farmer or the owner of a dining room.
I was slightly confused by the way it looked, so my greeting was delayed and my voice hung from the senator first.
"You must be Lockhart. I'm sorry to keep you waiting. I'm Piers Worgman, Quentin's father."
I panicked and lowered my head.
"Quentin, this is your classmate Zacharias Lockhart. Thank you for your time."
The senator stood up softly and urged him to sit on the couch in front of the desk.
And to get straight to the point, "I hear you have something important to talk about your son. They say it's about my son's future," he said. The look didn't feel like dealing with a ten-year-old, it was a sincere look.
(As far as I can tell, you don't look like someone with black rumors. Well, I don't know how much you can trust my eyes to look at me.)
I got back on my mind and looked him in the eye and started talking.
"Quentin, what has so much to do with your future is happening in college right now."
In my words, the senator gave me an instant look at what was so absurd.
"It's happening in college? I don't have much time, but I was wondering if you could tell me what you mean."
His reaction was as expected.
(This is where the battle starts. success or failure changes depending on how you get the senator's interest)
I put my temper back in again, said, "Well, let me explain it briefly," and then I started talking.
"Firstly, the crisis in your political life is the primary factor. If your Lordship loses his leg, you will certainly have a great impact on your future, Quentin."
The senator did not respond specifically to my words.
"My political life... you say funny things. That's just something about that (...) Professor Raspade cares about delicacies. But I'm busy. I don't have time to hang out with kids."
That's what I said and tried to get up.
I changed my policy because the first operation to turn the senator's attention failed.
"Really? Now that you know about the exclusion of me and Miss Jakes that's happening in the college, you think there's nothing wrong with that."
"You and Miss Jakes? Oh, you're the next kid in the seat. What's wrong with that?
Was the senator just a little interested or lowered his near-raised hips back onto the couch again?
"Some of the students in the class and the Bennett teacher are trying to exclude me and Miss Jakes."
"That's part of the class... did you come here to hope my son was involved there?
I shook my head, "No," and then...
"It's a little different, but we think we can leave the college and move on to private school. But now that I have trouble with your Excellency, and hence I think it will affect you, Quentin, I have the opportunity to speak with you knowingly about the impossibility."
He muttered, "That's annoying..."
"How does quitting college matter to me?"
I got into a fight here.
"If your Excellency says you have no problem if we leave the college, I will leave you with this."
That's what I said, I put my hips up.
Does the senator have anything to hook up with, "Well, wait," he said.
"I wonder if you could let me have your opinion. He said what about my political life, but what does that mean?
I decide in my heart that the senator's interest is in this direction. But his face didn't break his serious expression,
"We will now talk about the implications for Your Excellency if we resign. First of all, I refuse to be the first to say that I have not confirmed the fact that you, Quentin, are trying to exclude us. Rather than that, it doesn't matter if he does it or not. Let me move on with that premise."
The senator leaned his neck slightly, but nodded without saying anything.
"If we quit the Tilia School of Magic, two chief and second seats will be gone at once. In this case, you, Quentin, third in the seat, will be the chief. This is a hard fact to move. And if I quit the college and put him in private school, I'm pretty sure that Professor Raspade would make a scene."
When I got this far, the senator seemed to understand what I was trying to say. But I've urged ahead with my eyes without saying anything.
"If that happens, Senators Forsyth and Ibbetson, who are contesting your Excellency and the next Council President, will be put in question about that. You might bring up a story about putting pressure on the college to put your own son first. And most people will believe the rumor that Your Excellency has ruled us out for your son. Because there's nothing more interesting to talk about than a scandal of someone with a good reputation. If so, would it make it quite difficult for Your Excellency to maintain his current power within this Sorcerer's Guild?"
He meditated quietly in his eyes, listening to me, but slowly opened his eyes and spoke to me. It's not the same atmosphere as the farmer did just now, and it puts psychological pressure on me until it's horrible.
"What do you want? He wanted to see me on purpose. Don't you want me to do something?
Quiet tone, but every word comes slashing into my spirit.
(That's Jen, who says he wants to target the former head of a country. The pressure is not half. But I've been walking around the training grounds too many times. In the first place, pride does not allow me to feel pressure on a young man of only thirty-six......)
I put my strength into my stomach and stared back into Senator Worgman's eyes.
"I'm aware that this is not a very good way to put it, but to be honest, I'm not interested in your Excellency moving on or off. What I and Miss Jakes want is to gain knowledge of magic. So, you can go to private school, and Dr. Raspade says you can be your assistant, so we think you can teach your teacher."
"Is that really what you think? The head of the college is very favorable to the magician's guild. I'm definitely the one who graduated first."
I shook my head wide aside,
"I am not going to be an official of the Mage Guild, nor am I going to be a court magician. I just want to be strong with magical knowledge."
The senator weakens his eyesight staring at me. And I looked at him as if I didn't understand, and I said, "So why did you come here? After I said," I went on with the words immediately.
"I don't care if I lose my legs, and I don't want to be born in a sorcerer's guild. Then I guess I should just leave the college. You don't know why you've been waiting half a day to see me."
I exhale small and pull the force out of my shoulder. And loosen his expression, "There are two reasons," he says, two fingers up.
"The first is that they don't like the guys who tried to kick us out. We are used for stock, but we just waste the tuition the family has put in place for us, which has no benefit whatsoever. I don't like how they think we're just tools."
The senator nodded "um," but said nothing more.
"The second reason is because I was disillusioned with the education of the Tilia School of Magic. I hear Your Excellency has the will to reform the College. They're revamping the current incompetent as well as harmful teachers and replacing them with professionally educated teachers. Because I thought that if your reform started early, it would be positive to gain my purpose, my knowledge of magic."
He narrowed his eyes and stared at me.
"If you know that much, you also know that I'm not as clean (clean) as the world says I am. Doesn't saying it fits your purpose mean I'll do it?
I dared to provoke Senator Worgman.
"You're right, but I believe your Excellency is far more (...) than someone who mocks human resources like Speaker Seberg and Senator Ibbetson today, or even Councillor Isherwood. At least your Excellency will be concerned about the public. Regardless of Counselor Isherwood, Senator Ibbetson will only be seen in the guild"
The senator opened his eyes to my words for a moment and started laughing out loud.
"Hahaha! Are you really ten years old? No, I'm looking at the entrance records, too. So, I know for sure, but that knowledge, the depth of thought, and above all the courage to say all that without being afraid of me. My son can't be the enemy. No, it really came. You can always be a councillor."
I hadn't quite weighed out what this man was like yet.
(I wonder how far it is acting? I can't stay alert yet......)
He laughed,
"By the way, Miles, no, he seemed to call Miles Isherwood a HR guy, but what's the rationale for that?
(Has this question come after all? Once (...) I was given the name of someone known to the public as an ally, I thought they would definitely ask me... would you give it a try...)
"Don't you already know your Excellency even if I don't answer?
They narrow their eyes again to my answer and intimidate me.
"I want your opinion. Me and Miles are famous for their friendship. Because eight years ago we solved each other's misunderstandings and are trying to reform the Alliance with our hands. Why don't you tell me why you have such a hard time with my allies?
I brace my stomach and preface, "Okay, my personal opinion, let me talk to you".
"Firstly, it is superficial that I was reconciled with Counsellor Isherwood. In all seriousness, Your Excellency and the Counsellor only have a relationship to use. Furthermore, the Counsellor is letting his own breathtaking dive into the Wargman family. You know this, my lord."
The senator said, "Who are you talking about?" and fall in love.
(That's hard to do. Either way, he's trying to get me to say it first. Exactly. There's just the politician of the guy)
"I'm talking about your tutor, Mr. Archie Croft. Should I tell you about the incident ten years ago?
Where I said ten years ago, I saw just a little surprise in his expression, and he shrugged, "I see... you know that much..."
"It's a well-researched one. Not that it's a complete secret, but it's a taboo story in the Alliance today. Well, I don't care...... Croft did become my son's tutor on Miles' recommendation. And I look into his background and know..."
As I listened in silence, I kept talking.
"As you say, Croft seems to be spreading information to Miles. Once I let him grab the information, he hooked me up. But Croft is a cautious man. I don't have the guts to try to break my legs."
"So what does it mean to be secretly seeing the Bennett teachings who are trying to exclude me? And that's right after we talked about my intention to quit college."
The senator opened his eyes to the words, "Did you set up an information manipulation? You'll be surprised more and more," he said, with a lower voice that whines even more.
"Sure, then Tsujitsu fits. I don't know what kind of bait Croft was caught in, but I need to get paid for it."
At that time, I felt something cold flowing through my spine.
(I'm certainly not just a politician who's clean. Earlier, instinct keeps ringing the alarm that “you mustn't turn him against the enemy"... you may have said a little too much earlier. I can't help it, but let's get out of here early so I don't say anything worse...)
"Then my lord. Thank you for your valuable time today. I'm not quitting college for at least one cup in October. But I'm going to refrain from putting my face on the college, so Dr. Raspade should be making a scene sometime. I think it would be better if they took action before then."
That's what I said, I stood up and bowed my head deeply to Senator Worgman.
"You mean the time given to me is less than a month... good. I don't know if I'll live up to your expectations, but I'll turn around at the academy. Of course, I'll tell Quentin. Don't ever be hostile to you. Hahaha!"
At the end of the day, I'm joking, but I didn't care that you might be wary of me. He figured out my vigilance, loosened his expression,
"That's a joke. Whether Quentin is hostile or not, you won't even put it in your teeth."
So it's unusual for him, "I need one favor..." he mutters a little.
"Will you get along with my son Quentin? My son is complaining about my late mother. With that burden, I seem to have miseducated my son. I was going to get rid of Croft early as well, but for my son, it's on his father's behalf. Even I couldn't rule it out."
(Even a senator who is said to be a cutter, is there anything else about his family? But you don't know why you're telling me that. If you're just expecting me, you're wrong...)
"I don't know what His Excellency expects of me, but I don't particularly care about you, Quentin. At least you won't be walking away from me unless he stops being hostile to me"
After he grinned bitterly, "I don't want to say that,"
"You are more adult than you look. And my son is younger than old. Furthermore, I am aware that I am disqualified as a father... sorry. I don't even know why I'm telling you this... but I don't know what to say... I feel like you could lead Quentin in the right direction. This is close to my point..."
(You're just a father, not a politician right now. If this is an act, it would be horrible, but there would be no problem if you did it with as much consideration as you could...)
"Okay. I'll reconsider my relationship with you, too, Quentin."
The senator nodded at it, said, "Please," and offered me his right hand.
I took the hand and nodded small.
Later, the senator told me what I had in mind because he had been talking about reforming the college.
Of particular concern was the fact that the researchers were not very involved in coaching backwards. When I told you about it, did the senator have anything to think about?
"It was helpful. The reform of the College would be a plus for you. If you have any opinions, let me know."
I nodded at it and left his office behind.
