Dream Life - Life in the Other World of Dreams

Episode 54: Foothills of the Saeum Mountains

Tria calendar 313, May 9.

In May, the forest around Doctus is changing from a bright emerald color of young leaves to a dark green color.

He continues to hunt demons smoothly during the winter, rising to twenty-six swordsman levels and thirty swordsmanship skill levels. The magician still has the highest wind attribute, level thirty, but the fact that he is an assistant to the professor makes the metallicity level twenty-eight all at once.

Improving your swordsmanship skills is going well is a big part of having Gerald, a second-degree adventurer you know at the Black Leopard Hunt at the beginning of the year, do his archery.

There are only a few times a month because he gets his arches on when he doesn't go monster hunting, such as rainy or snowy days. But Gerald is a high level - level 65 - swordsman and surprisingly good at teaching people. Sometimes he used the same bastard sword as I did, and his swordsmanship skills went up at a good pace.

And the other day, Gerald taunted me that it was enough for one person.

However, it is also said that the skill level will be difficult to grow beyond thirty, which is why it is important from now on. Most of all, it was said that "beyond normal level twenty, it becomes difficult to grow”.

Today I go to the mountains for the first time.

Me and Sharon went up to the fifth level yesterday because we've been hunting for the Cannibal Ghost (Ghoul), a monster equivalent to the seventh level, for the past few months.

Beatrice, who was overprotective, was also allowed to crusade for a large number of soldier ants (soldier ants) at the foot of the Saeum Mountains because of his ascent to the fifth level and Gerald's admittedly strong arm.

Though the Soldier Ant is an insect-based demon equivalent to the sixth degree, a herd of more than thirty is considered to be equivalent to the fourth degree. This time it is being taken as a flock crusade, so it will mean a request for a fourth level.

The guild seemed to think that soldier ant nesting was taking place, pointing to the possibility of Queen Ant (Queen Ant) moving.

As the Queen Ant moves, the Soldier Ant becomes more aggressive and travels hundreds more units, so the surrounding demons descend the mountain, causing more damage to the streets.

The Alliance decided to add a special reward in order to minimize the damage. This had led to many adventurers receiving the request.

Sometimes I chose this request for a good reward, but there were other reasons.

Previously, when I fought the giant mukade Giant Centipede, I struggled quite a bit. So I wanted to fulfill my revenge with a soldier ant with an equally hard outer shell and seemingly heat resistant.

Last time I floated my body with a hammer of air (air hammer) and attacked it with a flaming arrow (flame arrow) or something on my abdomen, but I still folded quite a bit of a hammer. I'm thinking of an operation this time.

The destination is about five hours on foot.

It goes about five kilometers west of the city of Doctus, from where it goes northwards through the woods and around into the foothills.

It will take about ten round-trip hours, so this time we plan to do camping. For once, I have rehearsed in a safe place, and I know the procedure.

Requested at the guild at eight in the morning, take Aurelia Street on its feet - the street connecting Aurelia, the commercial city of the west, to Periclitle, the city of the adventurers of the east - west.

It is a relatively massive crusade and the other adventurers go into the woods in the same way. I didn't take it jointly this time, so there's no leader like Gerald when the Black Leopard.

However, to a certain extent, the number of enemies solidifies between the things we know. We're working with a party that Beatrice knows, but I can see you looking down on me and Sharon.

Liddy and Beatrice were also aware of that, and had decided to take a fold and act differently.

I went into the woods and when we took a break, I've been blatantly disgusted that "this is what kids with no strength are for". Beatrice was about to say something, so when I signaled her it was just the right opportunity, she quietly pulled back.

When they're gone, Liddy starts complaining about Beatrice.

"What the hell is that! Those guys would have been better off alone from the start!

Beatrice seemed sorry. "Sorry. But they used to be nice people," he says, bowing his head.

"Well, that's okay. I'm sorry to say this, but if you're as strong as Mr. Gerald's party, anyway, that much power would be enough. But is that really the fourth level?

The guys who went into the woods with us recently said they had gone up to the fourth level. They were all in their late twenties, a party of two swordsmen, one archer and one healer, but at least the level of swordsmen felt the same against me.

Our party is Beatrice in the third, Liddy in the fourth, me and Sharon in the fifth, but clearly inferior to us.

"I've been doing trick requests for ten years. If they're demons of the seventh degree, they can take them down without a problem. Well, a guy named Grade goes up if he does count. For what I was dealing with a weak demon, I guess the level didn't get much better. I haven't heard the details, but I'm wondering if it will reach level thirty."

Adventurer's rank is an indicator of success.

Beatrice is right, if you do the numbers, the ranks will rise. Especially here in Doctus, it is a special rule that even ex-post reporting will achieve the request, so it can be a fifth or fourth level even at a lower level. When this becomes other cities, such as Periclitle, which is the city of adventurers, you will need about level thirty-five, at least, to get up to the fourth level.

"Well, you're just going up to the fourth level and growing. If you see a sore eye on this request, you'll have to reconsider a little."

From Beatrice's perspective, their abilities do not appear to be at a level where they can participate in soldier ant (soldier ant) hunting.

When I say that, I'm on a similar level, but we're much more useful because me and Sharon can use effective fire attribute magic for insect systems.

After one o'clock in the afternoon, he finally got out of the woods and arrived in a wasteland like a galley field with big rocks rolling around.

It was ascending and gradient from the woods, so technically it's a mountain hem from there, but sensibly the landscape from here feels more like a mountain.

What is spreading before us is a meadow rolling with rocks about a few meters high, heading towards the mountain with a gradient that is considerably tougher than ever before. Beyond that I could see the ridges of the rugged Saeum Mountains, and I was concerned like a climber entering a hiking trail.

Through the woods the blue sky was spreading and I decided to have a little late lunch.

Sharon's lunch box is a sandwich and soup filled with bacon. Salt and spices are prepared in dried meat and dried vegetables. Add ingredients to each cup, magically water them out, and warm them with the magic of the perche-effect. Warm to the point of boiling, then soak the dried bread instead of croutons and complete.

This is a treasured food in the middle of winter woods. When I first served it to Beatrice, she was half impressed and half frightened by her long adventurer experience, "I don't know if I can easily eat this stuff in the woods."

After lunch, we quickly started looking for soldier ants.

"If we can find the trail of the herd's movement, it's easy, but without it we can find it..."

Beatrice explains that if you're moving in a group, you're knocking down the grass, so you can easily follow the herd if you find the trail. I just can't find it unless I'm lucky because that would lead me to find a single line at this wide mountain hem.

Another way to track it is to use Soldier Ant's habits.

Soldier Ant has a scout ant and a soldier ant, and when the scout finds the bait, he returns to his nest and flock to tell the soldier service. At that time, discharge the secretions and mark them. If we find and follow this discharge, it means we can reach the main unit.

Especially in the case of nesting like this one, the scouts leave towards all sides in search of a safe route. This means that as long as we can spot traces of one of them, we can reach the main unit.

I wonder if a special smell like ants can be felt by humans,

"I say we should follow the smell, but you know what that smell is?

"Well, humans won't be able to do it. If we're beasts, we'll be fine."

Apparently, it's a unique tracking method for beasts with excellent sense of smell.

The Soldier Ants say they prefer wasteland like here, and they should be moving along the mountain hem. We're heading north on the wasteland to find traces of Soldier Ant.

The Soldier Ant is about 2m long and 1m tall and has a black, hard chitin outer shell and a huge jaw that extends to fifty cm long. Plus he has a poisonous needle like a bee at the end of his ass.

Hard outer shells are archers crying demons because they play arrows. That's not all, he's not afraid, and he's heading toward losing one or two of his legs without any concern at all. The figure has a different creep than the undead.

I search for about two hours, but I never find a trace of what Beatrice says. Judging by the Alliance's information, I got ahead of myself, but apparently I went too far.

We looked for more traces of Soldier Ant as we searched for a place that was going to be a camp.

In the end, I couldn't find a trace of Soldier Ant that day. Find the right place for the camp after 5pm and start preparing for the camp.

Even so, basically the water can magically be put out, so it's only about as good as securing firewood for incineration.

We will set the wasteland close to the woods in the camp and collect firewood. And light a fire in the form of a nearby rock on its back.

The fire soon followed with the magic of my ignition, and the fire set just fine for the four of us to surround it.

Somehow I feel like camping, but this is a dangerous area with demons. That's also a far more dangerous and unacceptable place to stay alert than the woods near the city you've been to.

The watch shall be two alternates at a time, divided into a pair of me, Liddy, Beatrice and Sharon.

I'm going to start acting with dawn tomorrow morning, so I'm going to bed as soon as I get dinner.

Mixed with the sound of patchy, blasting firewood and the sound of wind blowing through the woods, you can also hear demonic roars in the distance.

There are many large demons around here, such as orgasms and trolls, and you can't be alarmed.

No trace of a large demon has been found within walking distance of us today. In Beatrice's opinion, there would be no dangerous demons that we couldn't handle first.

At first, Beatrice, the Sharon team will be on alert, switching with us when the date changes.

Nothing happened, time passed and the eastern sky began to whiten.

After waking up the Beatrices and having a brief breakfast, the search began again.

When I walked west for about an hour, I found footprints other than ours. Looks like another party that's been crusaded by Soldier Ant in the same way.

That footprint is heading north, and we ignore it and go further west.

Suddenly, Beatrice stopped walking in the lead.

"That's a trace of a soldier ant," she said, showing me the clear liquid on the grass. The smell smelled like sweet honey, but it was impossible to tell me to find it with my sense of smell.

Beatrice set the course and headed north.

She stops a few times, checks for traces, and we follow her carefully.

Beatrice suddenly sank herself. When we sank ourselves in the same way, Beatrice informed us that we had found the enemy by hand.

If you look closely, there was a flock of soldier ants (Soldier Ants) that glowed in the morning sun about 100 meters away. From here there were nearly ten giant ants, although the whole thing was invisible, just as far as I could see, in order to take the form of looking up.

I told Liddy and Beatrice, "That's a lot of numbers. What do we do?" he asked.

Liddy said, "You can't do it with the main unit. If you're just carrying bait, I think you can take it down," Beatrice nods at it, too.

And Beatrice said, "I'm coming to scout. Wait a minute," he said, scratching the grass without a sound.

When I look at him like this, I think he's a tiger beast man. I saw it on TV a long time ago, and it looks just like a wild tiger approaching his prey.

After enough, Beatrice came back.

"You're just carrying the bait. The number is twelve. What do we do?"

I nod silently and pull the sword out of my back. Both Liddy and Beatrice nod to it, and Sharon is nodding her cheeks with a red tide.

"I'm going to ambush you. Get as close as you can and defeat as many enemies as you can with Zach and Sharon's magic. Lydiane blows an ant approaching with an air hammer. I'll spear down the guy who's been scratching it. That's good."

We nodded quietly and approached the Soldier Ants.

The ants were fangling through the meat of an oak-like demon, forming rows and heading west.

I was able to ambush, so I ran the operation I was thinking about.

The twelve ants make rows about thirty meters long.

Our position is about thirty meters south of the line of ants.

Firestorm is activated simultaneously from this position. To increase the firepower, we approach the vortex of the two flames, slowly moving them from the leading side to the rear side, and burning the ants.

Firestorm is the magic of creating a flaming vortex about ten meters in diameter at the target location. Normal firestorms are fixed at the target point and continue to burn for dozens of seconds. For this reason, you cannot move the Firestorm itself, causing no damage to enemies out of range.

But me and Sharon can move Firestorm by our own will.

Let Professor Raspade say that our imagination and magic manipulation are geniuses. In fact, Liddy aside, even Professor Raspade can't move Storm-based magic.

Out of the question, moving the firestorm can do damage to the whole thing. Our magic lasts roughly thirty seconds, so a whirlpool of flames will burn the ants at one metre per second. To further increase the firepower, halve the diameter and arrange the two pieces. This width should do a lot of damage if you run sideways.

Me and Sharon sink into the grass for a brief meeting and quietly cast a spell.

"God of Fire (Ignis), who commands fire. I do not ask for the fiery flames of your family, the Spirit, and I do not give you the power of my life. Burn down my enemies! Firestorm!"

Along with the magical activation, two swirls of flame appear at the beginning of the Soldier Ant row.

The ants move their feet like they panicked, but they still don't let go of the meat of the demons and their movements are dull. And slowly two swirls pass over the ants.

The smell of wilderness grass burning adds the smell of demonic meat burning. I can hear a flaming bee, but I can't see what the situation is with Soldier Ant because I can't scream or anything like that.

After thirty seconds of magic activation time had passed, I could hear the sound of the underlying grass burning and the foot of a soldier ant named Gasagasa scratching the grass.

I thought I was short on fire, but Beatrice, who stood up earlier, said, "As always, your magic is out of standard."

I stood up softly and looked, and there was an appearance of the ants turning their feet upside down, burned by flames.

This is what I wanted to try this time.

Most insect-based demons protect important areas such as the torso and head with a hard outer shell. For this reason, flame-based magic is difficult to work on heads that are steep points, etc.

but the joint part is different.

Because of its movable parts, it is only covered with a thin dermal membrane. They're all made of protein, even demons, and burning the joints at high temperatures should do the nervous system or the muscles.

If my legs don't even move well, I'll be able to flip over and disable them, just like the insecticide hit bugs. Even the giant mukade Giant Centipede, if it works out like this one, should be able to take it down the same way.

Leaving Liddy and Sharon behind, me and Beatrice approaching carefully. It just didn't go as far as total annihilation, but nine soldier ants were flipping over, and three of them, who were behind us and safe, attacked us.

Soldier Ant waves his huge jaw and hits him as he makes the noise of gasp. One for me, two for Beatrice, and we distanced ourselves so we wouldn't get in the way.

Believe Beatrice can handle both of them, I'll concentrate on the one in the front.

When an ant that is 2 m tall and 1 m tall stands up on his hind leg, he exceeds my height. It swings down to slap the giant jaw from the top, but the movement is monotonous, so it is easily avoided.

Ali shook her head down against me as if it didn't weigh her head or something.

I avoid it in the backstep, wield my love sword, and shake it down on Ali's head.

There is a hard sound of cancer, but there is just a scratch in the head, which is not effective damage.

(Still hard. Don't you need to restrain yourself in the head? These guys' weaknesses are the joints in their feet. As long as it's accurate, you'll be able to slash it off......)

Change the target to the joint of the foot and slash it off the right anterior leg. Ali shakes her head to the left and right, trying to prevent it, but with the right timing, it's not that hard to avoid the jaw. However, since the foot itself also has a sturdy outer shell, it is necessary to wave the sword down precisely to joints a few cm wide.

When he grabs his senses in a few attacks and slashes off all his right leg, Soldier Ant loses his balance and flips. As it is, scratch the ground with your healthy left foot and glue it out around your back. If this happens, it can't be a threat. He carefully aimed at the base of his neck and waved down his sword, stabbing a stop at Soldier Ant.

When I defeated the enemy and looked back, Beatrice had already defeated the two ants. Both were piercing the mouth between the fangs with one blow.

He then stabs the stops at the soldier ants-burnt joints of his feet, stepping on the smoking grass and extinguishing the fire. In the meantime Sharon retrieved the Demonic Crystal Stone.

Beatrice said, "What are we gonna do with these guys stripping?" So I decided to peel off the outer shell of the ants that seemed to be available.

Of the ants burned in the firestorm, they are useless for more than half, but they are likely to be used for about five, so only the hardest head part is recovered.

If it's true, I could collect some more, but Sharon and I can't hold much heavy baggage, so we decided to bring back only the areas that are likely to sell the most.

By the way, Soldier Ant's outer shell is going to be a material for leather armor and it's going to sell for a pretty good value. If there are few scratches, one silver coin will be picked up for about 10C (Krona) (= 10,000 yen). This time, it's just the head part, so it would be about 30C for five.

"It's still early, but what do we do? The fact that these guys were headed west means the main unit's in the west."

I asked him, "If there's nothing wrong with your magic, I'll hunt some more, okay?" Beatrice asked.

My magic is still over 90% and Sharon answered no problem, so I decided to go after the ants even more.
