Dream Star

304 Phone call

"Hello? Hello?" Lila repeated.

Lila was about to switch it off; maybe her Mother accidentally clicked call. Her Mother makes clumsy mistakes whenever she is with Father after all, before she could click the end call button, she hears a familiar voice, "Lila…."

When she heard the voice on the other end of the line, Lila froze. She quickly removed her phone from her ear and double checked the caller ID. On her screen, it read mommy, and the number was right too. Lila looked confused, so why does Kiryu have her Mothers phone? Maybe Mother is helping Kiryu out with the scandal.

"Wait, don't hang up,"

"My Kiryu," Lila murmured.

She couldn't believe this, though he could have called her anytime before. Why is he doing it now? On her Mother's phone?

"Please, don't hang up. I only want to talk Lila,"

Lila recalled her current situation and proceeded to put on a pair of shorts, alongside Harukas T-shirt. Realizing she took a while to change due to her body aching, Lila was worried that he was no longer on the other end of the line, "Um my Kiryu?"

"Yeah?"

A relieved sigh passed her lips, "Is it okay to talk? Are you working?"

"Its almost 3PM, so I'm finished."

"You finish work this early?"

"On Tuesdays," Lila explained, "Um, Haruka says I need my rest," though most of the time it's merely because he wants an excuse to touch her since he cannot in his words wait a second longer.

There was silence on the other line, and Lila was worried that she made him angry. Not wanting to disturb Haruka, Lila removed his arms that were wrapped around her and stood up. She made her way over to the balcony on the other side of the room and closed the door behind her.

"It seems like Karashima has been taking good care of you."

"Yes," Lila trailed off, "Say why did you call me?"

"I uh, heard you would come here."

Lila nodded, "Ah-huh, um I want to help you," she paused. Lila wanted to call him Mr. Wind Song, but she wasn't exactly too sure.

"So uh, do you need me to do anything for you?"

"Anything?"

"Like

"No, uh, that's okay," she trailed off. Is it just her or does Kiryu sound nervous?"

"Sorry about this, Im just very nervous,"

Lilas cheeks reddened, "Um, you're nervous?"

"Why do you think so? I haven't heard you in a long time," Kiryu paused, "I want to hold you in my arms,"

If she was already red before then right now, her face was the same color as a volcano. Lila shook her head frantically, oh no - by instinct, she got embarrassed. It's a good thing he didn't video call her. Kiryu, it sounds like he missed her a lot. The same went for her; she missed him. But whenever she thought of him, the pain would well up in her heart. The image of him letting go of her hand, the words he said would appear in her head.

"Lila."

"Ah, I'm taking a flight on the night of the last round, though that would be morning for you,"

Silence filled the other line, and her sweat fell. This is very awkward, after all.

"Tell me, do I look like somebody who would harm others?"

"You don't, and neither does brother. But appearances are deceiving. Even though that's the case, I don't believe you would be capable of doing anything bad. Your all fighting for a cause. When I first discovered the truth of the world when I was younger... I was shocked, overwhelmed, and scared. 'I will forget, I will forget it all. So make it go away'. It was painful for me; it really was painful. I wanted to end it all and go back to my peaceful everyday days. But I realized if I did that I'll be turning my back to reality. I think delinquents are amazing; they're all fighting for a purpose and fighting for a cause. Even if it's for revenge, they're doing it knowing the consequences," Lila trailed off, she paused as she recalled her Mothers strong gaze.

"Knowing that in the process, they may die and yet they still take on such a job. Even though it involves being called tools and used, because there is a strong cause they're able to remain strong," Lila said.

That's right, unlike her...unlike her, Lila was always envious of them. For all being able to live like that without feeling any fear, no, they were afraid. It's only natural for them to be frightened. Despite those consequences, they still do their jobs without fail.

"I see, but I don't think that kind of mindset was wrong at all. When I first learned the truth of the world, I was only a regular existence myself. Do you want to know? Who showed me the truth of the world? That guy doesn't hesitate to approach people with strong presences. His introduction was rather bland too."

Eh? Could it be, "My brother?"

"Yeah, gee, he didn't hold back at all. 'Ah, you're the best person here to do this work. You have the aptitude for it'."

Her sweatdropped, she could see him say that with a monotone. "But I was grateful he did that. Because as a human, I had nothing going for me either. Us hanyou's are all lonesome creatures, but the ones who carry on such fancy titles are the ones who have it the hardest and hanyou's,"

"Like Mother, and me?"

"Yeah. Recently, you learned about your missing memories, right?"

"Ah-huh,"

"Back then, even though it was for a short while the two of us lived away from the protection of our families. They separated us two. However, the area I was in was a learning center; they didn't deter us though they prevented us from going out. We still, more or less, lived a normal lifestyle. But the side you were in was completely different. They didn't hesitate to do human experiments at all, especially on you who showed a strangely high aptitude,"

"Basically, I'm amazing!" Lila interjected.

Kiryu laughed, "Well, I can't deny that part. Yes, you're amazing."

He complimented her, Lila didn't understand, but it made her feel happy.

"On that day I met you again it was an accident, I was looking for a friend of mine who had gone missing. My best friend's little brother, because of my powers I offered to take on the job knowing I wouldn't get caught. I managed to look around the entire place without getting caught at all. I noticed one area that was completely sealed off; it said ' do not enter,' and that's why I came inside. I looked around and noticed that there was only one room, so I knocked inside, it was pitch black, and since I was small, I couldn't see anything. So I only called out to that person, after a while I received a somewhat angry response. After speaking for a while, she cried and said she missed her brother. And being the brave guy I am I told her I'd get her out of there one day. After that day, I kept visiting her, and soon after getting the information I needed. I started operation rescue," Kiryu explained.

Eh? He kept saying 'she' but Lila understood already that it was her he was talking too. So from the sounds of this story, "Did you forget about me?"

"I don't know what they did to us. But yes I did," Kiryu muttered. "Since I was the top student in the institute, I received private tutoring, and during those lessons, I managed to sweep a master key from one of the teachers. That night I visited you and managed to open the door. I wasn't expecting it you know, that the person I had been talking to was such a beautiful person. Even wearing that ragged experiment clothing you were beautiful,"

From the tone in his voice, it was clear that he loved her a lot. It was evident that between them there was love. An accidental meeting, huh? She supposed this would be their second encounter. After losing their memories, they both met again. It's genuinely 'fate' between them.

"So, we escaped, then?"

"No," Kiryu's tone turned bitter, "Though we got outside, we got caught, and they separated us. Afterward, I learned that you got released early. Guessing our families finally did something, since shortly after I was released too. I couldn't meet with you right away, though; they wouldn't let me. They said the place brought back some mental scars for you, that's why it was better to keep you isolated. When I heard that I was very bitter, that makes them no different from those people. But later I understood why they did that. When we met again, you forgot me and even said who are you. It broke my heart. Still, I was delighted to see you again. But your her gaze was so empty, even more, lifeless than they were before. I thought that if you got out of that place, you would be so much happier. But it seems like that was wrong."

They were in love. Oh no, Lila felt like she was going to cry. This person loved her so much, even when they were mere children. Why? Why? Lila felt the tears in her eyes increase rapidly, and she knew she could no longer remain calm.

"Kiryu, I missed you so much,"

There was silence on the other line before Kiryu spoke up, "Is Karashima with you now?"

"Waahh wah, stupid. Why is that what you're asking? I missed you, I wanted to see you for so long, but I held it in. You're stupid, very stupid. You let me go so easily, and yet you tell me this beautiful love story,"
