Chapter 71
Chaos is not what James would use to describe what he was watching. Because really, it didn't seem like it was pure chaos. However, it was definitely close. Unlike Z and Skar's groups, the other 10 adventurers in the instance were actually rather low level. A quick scan of their stats showed they were between levels 8 and 10, meaning they really should have been taking the time to level up…not dicken around with dicken racing and pet training. However, James couldn't fault them for that, new stuff was new, after all.
What James could fault them for though, was how they reacted when the giant egg, a massive imitation chicken egg scorched black from the fires of hell, appeared. A few stared at it dumbly. One, in the middle of a dicken race, actually fell off the mount. A few others screamed and beelined for the exit. Only three of the 10, through bravery or stupidity, decided to join the Knight's raid party in attacking the egg. Of course, the three, all under level 10, had no chance in hell of even scratching the egg shell, with its massive, for the first floor, 200 defense.
Z and the others, however, had more than a chance of scrambling that egg.

Every member of the Knight's Who Go Ni was level 24. Their stats were all boosted still by their demonic farm set, plus they had augmented their weapons with enhances from James's second floor. Considering the World Boss for his first floor was only level 20, it was clear they had the advantage. Besides them, Skar's party, while lower in rank, was similarly equipped. James wasn't surprised though, because Z had mentioned he was going to personally see to outfitting any players deemed worthy of joining in on the raid. Like a good raid leader, Z was setting his raid up for success. Besides, Z had mentioned to James that he really didn't care about the in-game currency. He had no need for it and was just playing for fun. A man after James's heart.
Following Z's orders to burn the World Boss down, the group spread out, and was doing just that. Z, Elm, and Troll'd were all stacked together, unleashing ranged DPS at a good rate.
"More DOTS" Z called out to the party as he unleashed another arrow. His honey badger had appeared by his side the moment the battle started and was currently racing towards the egg. James couldn't tell if the little guy normally salivated as much as he was, or if the honey badger planned to eat the egg. He really needed to look up more on that strange creature.
"Your mom needs more DOTS." Troll'd called back to Z as he let fly a barrage of arrows. The Troll Archer had chosen Hunter as his secondary class, and James was watching him make good use of his extra abilities. Hunter's were single target DPS monsters, with skills that multiplied the number of arrows they let loose per shot. That meant, for every arrow he was releasing, three magically appeared behind it, all flying rapidly towards the egg shell. However, each additional arrow had a decreased amount of damage, so given the high defense of the egg, the third and fourth arrow were barely touching it.
"I don't think the Troll knows what DOTS are." Faust was laughing as he released a spell, sending a crackling cloud towards the egg. That spell was exactly what Z had been calling for, the lightning mage's Damage Over Time Spell, Lightning Storm. James of course, had researched each of the subclasses of his favorite party, and so he knew just how terrifying that spell was. It was an area of effect spell that lasted for 10 seconds, dealing magical damage in random lightning strikes to any target underneath the cloud. Considering the size of the egg, it was clear what target was going to get hit by all of the strikes.
"Do you guys think I can poison it?" Gno-more, Skar's gnome thief, was besides the egg, slashing with dual velocity raptor daggers into the shell. Beside him, his pet, a miniature velocity raptor, was doing its best to crack the egg. The poor little guy was having no effect.
"I mean…as long as it doesn't make it go rotten." Oak's comment trailed off as he glanced around. It was as if he could feel everyone around him face palm at his bad pun.
"Good enough for me." Gno-more's dagger's glowed green, and James watched him renew his barrage of attacks. Atop the stat bar for the egg, James saw a small, cliched symbol appear. It was a green skull, with a number 3 next to it. The egg had been poisoned. It seemed the gnome had chosen assassin as his sub class, granting him a large boost to his single target DPS capabilities as well. While Z's group seemed to have chosen their classes carefully, making sure their party was rounded out, Skar's group had gone full on boss slaying comp. Their crowd control and AOE abilities were limited, but they could sure as hell mess up a single target foe.
"Impressive, but I don't think it's going to be enough." James muttered to himself, pulling up the Egg's stats, and highlighting them across the stream. People watching couldn't normally see the information on the mobs or players, unless James pulled the screens up and shared them with them. Given how enthralled chat was, he figured he would share the World Boss's information for them, to keep them entertained.
Charles the Dicken (Egg Form)
4min 21 seconds remaining
Dicken Based World Boss
Lvl 20
HP- 4491
MP- 0
ATK- 0
DEF- 200
Unique Abilities
Great Eggspectations- Charles the Dicken likes to make a spectacular appearance. He will fall from a demonic portal in the sky, in a giant Egg. The Egg will sit for 5 minutes, before hatching and Charles emerges. While the egg is active, it has 5000hp, and 200 Def. If the egg is destroyed, Charles will emerge with ½ his stats.
It had almost been a minute since the egg appeared, and the 10-man raid party had been doing a good amount of damage. However, this was a World Boss, and they weren't that far over its level. Plus, there were some cooldowns and items Z and the others were saving for the Terminus fight, which was limiting part of their combat ability.
That being said, James still had no doubt in his mind that once the egg hatched, the fight would become even more entertaining. Especially because as James watched the battle unfold, he couldn't help but notice not a single Dicken on the floor had been killed yet. That meant, when Charles emerged in his full glory, the floor was in for a nasty surprise. James sat back, grinning to himself knowingly, as he watched the group continue trying to burn down the egg. James was sure they had figured out they didn't have the DPS to break the egg before the timer ran out, but like true gamers, that didn't mean they were going to give up. Instead, they threw everything they could, save the kitchen sink, and their important cooldowns, at that egg. It was a valiant effort, and they actually had it down to its last 1,000 hp when the timer ran out.
Cracks appeared all along the egg, glowing red, before suddenly, the black shell burst outwards, hitting all the players with a 5 second stun, revealing Charles the Dicken, a massive, all black, Demonic Rooster. The boss leaned its head back and opened a fanged beak, and let out a terrifyingly deep, guttural, Cock-a-doodle-do. And then, part two of the battle began.
