Lesson 24: Monston's Secret Laboratory

Military city of Monston.

The outer wall, which was supposed to be thick, had been collapsed on the south by Charles' attack, and the Gardis Imperial Army had to turn north before entering.

The outer walls were then reinforced by the hands of the [Sat] wizard who brought them.

For a while, those who remain physically fit have taken the initiative to crusade the demons that were in the city because they no longer need to worry about raids from the outside.

Oak is in the city. If you are devouring the food that was left in the warehouse and the orcs are obsessed and unaware of the presence of the soldiers and are ambushed by them, even the soldiers can deal with it adequately. We don't have to go out there.

"General Holland"

"Yeah, you guys."

General Holland was in command in an establishment that housed soldiers fallen by fatigue.

Take Silvia and Melissa there and visit with the executives of the Glenvarga army such as General Holkes and the vicinity.

There's something I need you to show me.

"Is that...?

This is where Charles Sacrina was.

……

There is an institution in Monston where Charles, who was an alchemist, was doing research.

Charles was waiting for our arrival on the outer wall. But she seemed to have a completely different purpose, and the attack on us should have been only a follow.

Then what was she doing here?

There is only one possibility.

"... follow me"

General Holland walks out with two knights in his escort.

Seems like a small number of people, but the places to be guided are the most important confidential of the army, where they were buried in darkness by order of the Emperor. Even if you're on your side, you can't accompany them unless you're a trustworthy person.

Guide us to such a place as the outsiders. He would have liked to refuse, but he knows he can't even say that here.

Walk north of the city in unmistakable footsteps.

"I thought it was exactly what was on the south side."

Monston has a concentration of military facilities on the south side in order to counter the Glenvarga Empire, and on the north side there are commercial facilities to support those working in military facilities.

"It's a facility that you can't afford to go out of business. I couldn't have prepared them anywhere they had anything to do with the military."

Guided is a warehouse town about 500 metres from the military establishment.

Entering one of the warehouses there manipulates the panels hung on the wall several times. Then part of the floor slides and the entrance to the basement appears.

"A place like this..."

"I didn't know."

"Don't talk too much. I don't know what's going to happen in the future, but it's definitely not the kind of place you can publish."

Proceed underground.

A magic tool hung on the wall emits light sensing that a person has come in.

"... weird"

"What do you mean, weird?

"There are no people in the facility"

"Because it's an abandoned facility."

"That, no. The researchers who were here should have stayed put when the demon raid happened."

It's safer to be in the basement than to go out poorly.

Besides, they weren't supposed to be in Monston, so there was no reason to go outside even if there was a disturbance during evacuation.

"It's one way to deal with emergencies. The only entrance to and exit from the ground is in such a way that it is completely sealed off."

There are many things as illegal as the research Charles was involved in.

In some cases, they were going to bury everything under the ground.

"The entrance and exit were left hung with locks for emergencies. We have food stored inside, so we can afford a few days, and if we do this for a few weeks, we should be able to live."

So General Holland assumed that the researchers were alive inside.

But the fact that there are no glowing lights at all in response to people means that the researchers are no longer in the facility.

"No, there's another possibility"

"General Holkes?

"Right. General Holland."

"... if they were all dead"

The lights react to 'living' humans.

Then the lights won't react if they're all dead.

"... apparently, that reasoning is correct"

Face the smell of blood drifting from the back.

This smell is not on a level for a few people.

"How many people were in the facility?

"Sixty-one if my memory is all I have."

They had such a number of people.

"Ugh..."

Following the smell, we reached a large room lined with many tables.

I don't know if they had targeted where everyone gathered there. Everyone was deadly with arrows. Moreover, some have fallen with the upper half of their heads lost because of attacks with overly powerful arrows.

The floor is stained bright red with blood. Even the generals, who were supposed to be used to fighting, were about to nauseate at this sight and hold their mouths with their hands.

There is only one person who can do this.

"In an emergency, we were supposed to gather in the dining room. Looks like they're after us there."

"I'm pretty sure Charles is here."

"To kill everyone...?

"Come on, maybe there was another purpose. Let's take a look around some other places."

Leaving the dining room to explore another place.

It's a place where we don't know what kind of danger we're in, so we can all consolidate our exploration.

"... you have nothing"

With just a few large rooms, I couldn't find anything like what Charles was after.

"You know what?"

General Holland has looked pale since I saw the first room.

I saw and understood the room where there was nothing.

"If my memory is certain, there were a number of incubators lined up in this room that people could put in, and they were given illegal drugs"

"But those marks..."

"Oh, no"

If you look closely at the floor, you can find signs of heavy cylinder-like objects.

So where did the incubator that should have been placed go?

"I'm pretty sure she was here. Perhaps she took it"

"What the hell for?

General Holkes asks.

I guess there's a bad feeling swirling around in his chest, too.

"One of the reasons this place is strictly secret is so that Prince Quenti doesn't find it, or something. Emperor Justios only acquitted Prince Quenti of the research he had found and made him continue by keeping it secret from his own body about other illegal studies"

In order not to be found further by Prince Quenti, he taught General Holland, who was beside him, to be present and not to be found.

As such, they allowed the study to continue for studies that could not be found.

Denied research and continued research.

For those who are denied, I can't help but hate them more if they continue.

"I can't stay like this. I don't know what she's going to do with the results of the research that was going on here, but I can't stay like this!

General Holland is likely to jump out soon.

"Huh!"

Grab the collar and make it stop.

"Do what!?

"Your role is to get us safely to the labyrinth city of Ilkite. Whatever happens along the way, I won't allow you to turn back until you reach your destination."

"But..."

"I know what it's like to worry about the Emperor. But nothing special has happened on the Oneiros Plains so far, so let's make moving forward a priority."

"You know what I mean!?

"Yes."

Sandrats and other demons are placed somewhat in the Plains of Oneiros.

It looks like there are some fights going on out of the invisible anxiety ahead, but thanks to the presence of the army, they are immediately repressed. If the quarrel starts to develop into a riot, it is eliminated without question by the Glenvalga army.

"You have no choice but to move on. I won't allow you to stop your legs, even if it's going to be like half-breaking."
