Eagle of the Valley of Ice and Fire
Chapter 210 Martial Arts Tournament (7)
The carriage stopped at the Widow's Tower. Melisandre left the carriage and watched the carriage go away.
"Did you find anything?" Attis asked.
A deep voice came from the driver, "Lord Evan asked us to relax our defenses and wait until late at night."
Attis stopped asking and leaned back on the cushions in the carriage. "Take a few more turns in the castle. Harrenhal is big enough."
"Yes." The driver said in a low voice.
The four-wheeled carriage moved along the spacious stone road of Harrenhal. The torches hanging diagonally on the wall dragged the shadow of the wheels behind the carriage. The soldiers of the valley who were on guard saw the carriage passing through the gaps in their masks and couldn't help but lower their heads and wait for the carriage to go away.
Theodore looked at the loosely guarded city walls, the drunken soldiers, the scattered meat soup, and the hounds and crows fighting for food.
The mule's tail slapped its buttocks, and annoying flies buzzed around the mule cart. Theodore reached out and grabbed a handful of the fine stones and sand on the mule cart and gently wiped them on his face.
He put on a crudely made straw hat, and the sharp wood chips inside hurt his head. Theodore took a deep breath, brushed off the mud on the ground, and wiped it on his forehead again and again.
Theodore raised the whip and gently touched the mule's buttocks, and the mule cart moved forward.
The city gate was even half open. The soldiers guarding the city just glanced at him, stabbed the fine stone pile with their long swords, and waved to let him in.
The tall and thick walls of Harrenhal were left behind him, and the dark reflection of the walls under the moonlight enveloped him. This place was very close to the Hall of Hundred Hearths, and the sound of the nobles playing and drunkenness seemed to be close at hand.
Nobles and commoners are no different. Theodore knew this clearly when he was in the noble castle in Dorne. The stranger would not favor anyone. He took a deep breath and walked towards the shed where the mules and horses were placed according to the route indicated by the stonemason.
The mule cart stopped in the shed. Theodore leaned out and found that the faint white light of the early morning had already appeared faintly in half of the sky. The sounds of common people such as stonemasons, bricklayers, weavers, and dyers hired by the Harrenhal Tournament were gradually heard around.
Theodore lowered the brim of his hat slightly and headed towards the direction of the outstanding iron-making sounds in the distance.
Evan Arryn listened to the report from his subordinates and looked calmly at the increasing crowd outside the window.
"Where is Theodore Wells?" Evan turned his head and looked at the stonemason and attendant who were escorted by the guards.
The stonemason, who obviously did not look like a Dornishman, wore ill-fitting armor and chanted the prayer of the Seven-Star Bible. He closed his eyes and did not answer.
"If you like to talk, you don't need your tongue," Evan said to the stonemason, but his eyes moved to the pale servant beside him. "If you like to close your eyes, you don't need your eyes," Evan's mouth corners slightly raised, "You are so generous."
"If you want to be silent for your whole life," Evan looked at the stonemason's wet lower body, "I can castrate you and let you be a blind silent sister, and accompany strangers for life."
The stonemason's cheeks trembled slightly, and tears and snot could not be suppressed, but he still kept his lips tightly closed and said nothing.
Just like the group of Seven Gods believers that the red-robed woman met before. Evan Arryn thought of the previous communication with Melisandre of Volantis.
"It will be punished after all, drag him away." Evan Arryn said to the guard beside him.
Only the young servant and Evan Arryn were left in the room. The servant swallowed his throat, his Adam's apple moved up and down, and he unconsciously retreated, looking to the side, not looking at Evan Arryn.
"See, there are many disobedient adults, most of whom are caused by being unattended when they were young." Evan Arlin pulled out the dagger from his body, and the sharp tip of the dagger was placed on the servant's tender cheek.
The cold touch immediately spread from his cheek, and the servant shivered twice, "I really don't know, sir, Sir Theodore never told me these important things, I just set up tents, cooked, washed clothes, and put on armor for him." The boy's lips trembled slightly, and his voice was very hurried.
"Tsk." Evan's dagger pressed down faintly, and a trace of blood appeared. The boy was in pain and trembling and screamed.
"Please, sir, I really don't know anything, nothing!" The boy's tears flowed down, and the smell of urine from his lower body also came out.
Evan suddenly stood up and reached out to grab the chain on the boy's neck. The surface of the wooden carved seven-pointed star was still a little shiny.
"Drag him away and keep him under strict guard." Evan said to the guards outside the door.
He was no longer interested in the old man and the young man, but looked out the window. The slight light of the sky did not stop the bonfire on the tower from waving a few times.
"At the city gate, he probably disguised himself as a stonemason to get in." Evan squinted his eyes. Catching only a small fish and shrimp was not in line with his original intention. The enemies of Duke Attis were not only these fanatical believers, but also the landless knights running in the Green Fork River.
"Incestuous bastard!" Sparrow could not suppress the anger in his heart because of pure faith, and his voice was slightly heavier.
"Too much talk will lead to mistakes." The leading monk looked at the believer beside him angrily. He seemed to always be unable to control his mouth.
Sir David Destin wiped the long sword with a wet cloth and followed behind Sparrow without saying a word.
The monk frowned and looked at him, "I thought you..."
"What did you think?" David Destin interrupted the monk, with a self-deprecating tone, "You thought I would be like those traitors, who heard that there was a chance to make achievements and return to the Green Fork River, so they betrayed Sir Theodore and the Seven Gods?"
He thought of the several servants and knights who followed him, and spat on the ground, "I just threw their heads into the lake, and didn't do anything more."
The monk muttered something, put his hands together and bowed his head, as if to atone for David Destin.
"The Seven Gods have long expected this day, and what I am experiencing now is my punishment," David Destin drew back his sword and looked at the towering Harrenhal in the distance with a sharp gaze, "Can I take back the castle by participating in the tournament to gain fame?" He asked himself and answered, his eyes firm again, "No."
Flocks of sparrows mixed in the crowd in the riverlands, perhaps skinny, perhaps disabled, but like Baron David Destin who lost his territory, they looked up at the cursed castle with a firm gaze
"We are at Harrenhal, sir." William Lannister pointed forward happily.
This kid must have only been to the Riverlands once. James glanced at the excited William, but the contempt in his eyes was only fleeting.
The time he came with me. James sniffed and cursed in his heart.
"Let's go!" James steadied his shaking hands, pressed them on the reins, clamped his legs around the horse's belly, and galloped away, "I hope I'm not late!"
