Eagle of the Valley of Ice and Fire

Chapter 29 Chaos is a ladder

The dinner was held in the hall of Winterfell as usual. The whole hall was steaming hot, and the servants of Winterfell were busy walking in and out of the hall. Jon and his brothers and sisters sat at the same long table, but they almost separated the entire hall.

Jon Snow looked at the big men coming and going, and subconsciously counted his brothers and sisters among them. King Robert disappointed him the most. He learned from his father that Robert was the hero who severely injured Prince Rhaegar at the Trident, not the fat man with a big belly who looked like a drunkard at first glance.

Artis Arryn was exactly what he imagined. He was only a few years older than him, but he already had the style of the "Young Dragon King" Daeron Targaryen. He was superb in swordsmanship and had experience in leading troops in battle, which made him very envious. When he came, he entered the main hall holding Princess Myrcella's hand. King Robert saw this and praised them as a natural couple. But Jon thought it was an exaggeration. Princess Myrcella was just a child, and the age difference between the two was still a bit big.

When Artis passed by him, he greeted Jon politely, unlike Theon Greyjoy who always looked down on him and ignored him when he passed by.

His uncle, Benjen Stark, dressed in black, did not stay on the podium where the king and his father were, but found him and sat at the end of the hall.

His father sat on the podium, looking very restrained, in sharp contrast to King Robert. The king always liked to laugh out loud, and the jesters below kept telling jokes from all over the country. Jon was very curious about how he remembered so many jokes.

Artis seemed to be very close to Arya. Myrcella leaned her chin on the long table and listened to Artis quietly, unlike Arya who would interject from time to time, forcing Artis to explain with effort.

It was not until Bran snatched a piece of chicken from Arya's plate that his dear sister ended her questioning of Artis and got under the table to wrestle with Bran. During the wrestling, he almost lifted Sansa's skirt, causing Sansa to scream. Prince Joffrey had been looking at him with contempt since he entered the hall, and only when he talked to Sansa did he reluctantly maintain his courtesy.

Bastards are good at observation, Jon sighed.

Artis discovered this, Jon Snow's eyes were always on the people on the high platform, which was different from Mia Stone, his bastard playmate in the Eyrie when he was a child. Mia's eyes were always on the beautiful scenery of the valley, and rarely on the people and things around her.

Although she was an illegitimate daughter, Artis, who still had the dream of traveling around the world, envied her very much. The breath of freedom could be reflected in Mia Stone. It was a pity that he went to Runestone City early, and then he was busy with various noble lords' socializing and forced to join the political mediation. He didn't even meet Mia from the Eyrie to the Riverlands.

Duke Eddard seemed to be very good at keeping secrets. His restraint at the banquet was not considered inappropriate by anyone, including Lady Catelyn, who seemed to think that this was how her husband should behave. Catelyn handled everything at the banquet skillfully, including talking with the queen, and showing the light smile that aristocratic women should have when appropriate.

Queen Cersei always turned her head to observe him unnaturally. There was a little resentment in her eyes. She kept a straight face from beginning to end, and even others could tell that she was smiling and catering to her at a glance.

Artis looked at Myrcella's face. She almost inherited all the beauty of her mother. Her eyes always unconsciously looked at the many puppies wandering at the end of the hall, and sometimes she was amused by the funny actions of the puppies.

Still a child, Attis sighed, he glanced at Sir Jaime who was sitting and drinking, and thought to himself, "If what Stannis said is true, then you two are really damned." Then he started to enjoy the food on the long table.

The bastard rushed out, tears seemed to be in his eyes, and his uncle Benjen drank helplessly. But this episode did not affect the banquet, the hall was still full of singing and dancing, and the music was continuous.

Attis didn't care about Jon Snow, the identity of a bastard in Westeros is like this, and the Blackfyre lineage is only influential after the legalization of King Aegon, although the dragon blood is very pure.

This is something that Snow will have to face sooner or later. Compared with other bastards, he is lucky to have a father like Eddard. Can't say much, can only wish you well.

Duke Eddard's eyes have been at the end of the hall, and he frowned tightly.

Eddard stood by the narrow window, naked, letting the cold wind blow into the room.

Catelyn wrapped herself tightly in the bed, silently looked at her husband, and said, "Robert came all the way to the North."

"He wanted me to be his King's Hand." Eddard replied, "And you know, Sansa's marriage, Attis's marriage"

Catelin noticed that Eddard was hesitating, "Ned, you have to go."

Eddard's answer was beyond her expectations. She thought Eddard would hesitate for a while, "I must go." But then Eddard and Catelyn fell into silence. The moonlight and stars gathered light in the room, but in Catelyn's view, the room was even darker at this time.

"But, Sansa's marriage, don't rush, she is only 11 years old." Eddard said.

Catelin did not agree with her husband's opinion, "This is the supreme honor, Ned." Her daughter will become the queen, and Sansa's children will rule the Seven Kingdoms. Catelyn can't think of any disadvantages.

"Catelin, this is very complicated and involves a lot." Eddard turned around, his face was not good.

Just as Catelyn was about to continue asking questions, the voice of Maester Luwin sounded outside the door, "Master, forgive my rudeness, I must see you."

Ed changed into a heavy robe and agreed to the maester's request.

Luwin quietly closed the door and then spoke: "Someone left me a letter, master."

The maester took out a wooden box from his sleeve, "There is a beautiful lens inside, maybe there is a secret."

Catelin trembled, not knowing whether it was cold or fear, "The lens has only one use."

"See the truth, Madam, you are really knowledgeable." Luwin praised.

"Father often said this to us, and Lysa and I know it." Catelyn had a bad omen.

Luwin smiled and nodded, "I found a letter lying inside, and it only said to let Lady Catelyn open it."

Ed frowned as Luwin handed the letter to Catelyn and opened the door to facilitate Maester Luwin to go out.

The envelope was printed with the crescent falcon emblem of the Arryn family. "Lysa?" Catelyn asked in confusion.

She opened the envelope and read the contents tremblingly. She was so nervous that she was shaking.

"What's written?" Eddard's face turned gloomy.

Catelyn looked at Eddard in disbelief. "There are too many terrible contents in it, and too many people are involved."

"Speak." Eddard frowned.

"Lysa said that she has been imprisoned in the Eyrie by Artis Arryn." Catelyn was trembling all over. "Damn, can you close the window!" She couldn't believe that she had sworn.

"What?!" Eddard was shocked and laughed. "Does your sister know what she is saying?" He glanced at Lysa's letter. "What is the text in it? Why can't I understand it?"

"Lysa is always cautious. She uses a secret language invented when we were young, and only the two of us know it." Catelyn closed the window and said.

"She said that Artis forced her to put a kind of tear in the Prime Minister's glass, saying it was for mixing drinks. Later she found out that it was poisonous." Catelyn said these words almost desperately.

Ed shook his head frantically, "Lysa is crazy, your sister is crazy, Artis is Jon's son, his eldest son!" This was beyond Ed's imagination. He didn't believe that Artis could do such a thing.

"At that time, Lysa also said that the Prime Minister was investigating the Queen's case at that time." Catelyn frowned.

Ed suddenly fell silent, and the whole person fell into a terrible silence.

"Lysa now thinks that Artis is trying to get rid of the crime through this incident and put the blame on Lannister Ned. Tell me this is not true." Catelyn held the letter and looked at the silent Ed with fear in her eyes.

"Since Lysa has been imprisoned by Artis, how can she send the letter?" Ed asked.

Catelyn shook her head, "Don't be silly, Ned, Lysa is the Duchess after all, how could there be no one loyal to her in the Vale."

Edard fell silent again.

He looked through the window at the dark night, "No matter who said it, I will go south to find out the truth." Eddard clenched his fists and said in a deep voice.

Littlefinger looked at the moonlight in the distance, his face full of playfulness. Lysa was in the Eyrie, where all the confidants of Arryn were, and the assassination was bound to fail. The poison he gave Lysa had obvious flaws, the surface was crystal-like, and the dark blue flaws inside could be recognized by every maester, not to mention the maesters serving the Eyrie.

Lovely Lysa was used to telling everything in her ear, including all the secrets of her childhood with Kate, and naturally including the lovely secret words. Littlefinger specially arranged for people to follow the king's team and hand over a secret letter he carefully designed to the maesters of Winterfell. They must be shocked at this time. I hope Kate will not be scared.

He stretched lazily by the window, thinking of Artis Arryn who was in the limelight, "Little eagle, how are you going to face the Stark family next?" Littlefinger once again thought of his most unsuccessful duel, the duel with Brandon Stark. He would never forget the fear of death at that time, and now, his dear little eagle would face it all alone.

The wolf and the eagle had a rift, and the sins of the lion were there. Sooner or later, this kingdom would be in chaos.

"Chaos is not always a bad thing." Littlefinger put away his smile, staring at the night sky, his eyes no longer playful, full of depth and ambition, "Chaos is a ladder", his figure disappeared in the depths of the shadows, the moonlight could not penetrate the thick window, and was unable to explore the darkness in it.

On a tower in Winterfell, the moonlight shone through the window on Artis. He lay on the bed thinking, thinking about everything that happened in the Eyrie.

Damn, I wrote Littlefinger so handsomely
