Eagle of the Valley of Ice and Fire
Chapter 4 In King's Landing
At this moment, Artis stepped on the Myr carpet, which was known for its gorgeous colors and extreme luxury. The fireplace in the bedroom of the Prime Minister's Tower was burning brightly, and the flames danced on the wall. Attis stared at the flames in the fireplace in a trance.
His father, Jon Arryn, paced back and forth impatiently in the corridor outside the house. The deep end of the corridor led to the small tower used as a toilet, and his stepmother, Lysa Tully, was staying inside with her crying brother.
"Lysa, are you okay?" his father asked outside, and the only response he got was the crying of the baby and the sharp rebuke of Lady Lysa, "Be patient, Jon!"
Attis didn't know whether to laugh or cry at this. His father just shook his head and returned to the bedroom, sitting on the soft chair and sighing.
Seeing his father trying his best to stay calm and maintain the dignity of the Prime Minister, Attis was really worried that he would hurt himself.
After a while, Lysa walked into the bedroom with the child in her arms. The little brother had a pair of big eyes on his pale face. His eyes slid around and looked around. After a while, he noticed the presence of Atis, a stranger, and looked at him curiously.
Atis blinked at him, stood up and saluted to Lady Lysa, "Madam, I haven't seen you for a long time. You are still so beautiful.".
Lysa looked older, her body became more bloated and loose, and her pale face was covered with powder. Of course, her long reddish-brown hair was still smooth, like a red waterfall gushing down, still beautiful.
Lysa squeezed her face into a big smile, "Atis, look at your brother.".
"Can I hug him?" Atis asked.
Lysa was obviously stunned, and her reaction was slightly slow, "Of course.".
The little guy left his mother's arms, swaying his limbs, and about to cry with tears in his eyes, but he found that there was something in his mouth. His big eyes looked at Atis again, and he bit hard. Atis's finger was stuck in his mouth, but it didn't hurt because he had no teeth.
Atis forced a smile at Lysa, "My brother obviously likes his mother more.".
Lysa took the child proudly and hugged him.
The father enjoyed this scene. He grinned with a wine glass in his hand and rocked the soft chair as a rocking chair. The warmth of the fireplace was just right. The Arryn family was separated for several years and finally reunited in the Prime Minister's Tower.
"I plan to name him Robet, in the name of King Robert." The father took a sip of wine and said to Atis and Lysa.
"Oh, my good Robin (Robin Robert Arryn's nickname), I hope the heroic King Robert can give him courage and physique." Lysa kissed Robert's forehead deeply.
As the sky gradually darkened, the servants of the Prime Minister's Tower prepared a simple dinner in the bedroom. His father finally got rid of the heavy government affairs and was relaxed. He had a simple meal with his family.
Atis went to bed very late. He was still uneasy in the Prime Minister's Tower, especially after the oil lamp in the room was extinguished. In the darkness, he always felt that there were eyes watching him in the thick wall, making it difficult for him to fall asleep.
Not to mention Robin's occasional crying and Lysa's singing trying to coax him to sleep in the middle of the night, which kept his extremely sharp five senses tense and sensitive.
When he woke up, it was still slightly light.
Walking to the battlements of the Prime Minister's Tower, he found that his father was leaving the Prime Minister's Tower under the escort of the guards, and his thin back disappeared in the carriage.
Attis did not expect that the work of the King's Hand would be so busy and his time would be so tight.
Atis picked up the steel sword and walked out of the Prime Minister's Tower. He wanted to see the parade ground of the Red Castle before visiting King Robert who was returning late from hunting as usual.
The Red Castle was close to the wall outside the castle on the side of the narrow sea. Its parade ground was located on a large round platform on this side. In addition to being used as a parade ground, soldiers often practiced here.
The sound of fighting and scuffling guided Atis. In the distance, the flag of the Baratheon Crown and Stag was fluttering in the wind. Outside the battlements of the Red Castle where the flag was placed was the silent high wall of King's Landing. One could even vaguely hear the sound of waves hitting the rocks on the land.
There was enough space in the middle of the parade ground. Atis saw the young blond boy holding a blunt sword and pointing it at the jester in front of him.
"Prince Joffrey." Atis quickened his pace. He was just trying to get to know the prince.
The boy raised his sword and slashed at the jester's back. "Ah! Your Highness is so good at swordsmanship. I can't dodge it at all!" The jester fluttered on the ground exaggeratedly, supported himself on the ground and fell backwards, opened his mouth and wailed to the sky. The knights watching laughed, "Your Highness is really brave!", "Well done, Prince!", cheers came from all directions.
Artis did not come to the parade ground alone. The blue robes of the Arryn family always followed him. The group immediately attracted many eyes. The golden robes around the prince gave way and bowed their heads in silence. "Although my father is not here, he seems to be behind me at this time." Artis thought to himself.
But the Lannister guards around the prince were unmoved. They looked at the young son of the Prime Minister in front of them with a little hesitation. Artis noticed that the Baratheon guards belonging to the prince's own family gathered in the distance of the parade ground and looked at this place indifferently.
Joffrey felt the cheers around him fade away, and everyone's attention was no longer on him. His face flushed red as he swung his sword and continued to beat the poor jester. Several red marks appeared on the jester's face in an instant. He screamed miserably, but this time it didn't seem to be fake.
Seeing this, Artis had no choice but to kneel down in front of Joffrey, "Your Highness, Artis of the Arryn family salutes you."
Joffrey stopped torturing the jester and looked impatiently at Attis who was kneeling beside him. The jester quickly stood aside and gasped, "Who is this from a remote village again?".
"It's the eldest son of the current Prime Minister, Prince Joffrey." The knight who had been observing in front of the battlements came over. His fine white scale armor embroidered with gold thread showed his solid physique very well. His knee guards, throat guards, hand guards and boots were all iron armor, shining in the sun.
"Kingsguard." The white robe was particularly obvious, and the exquisite carving of a hanged man on his hilt showed his family identity before the oath. Merin Trant of the Trant family, Attis bowed slightly to him, "Sir Merin."
"Oh, that old man with bad breath." Joffrey was only six years old, and he was already skilled in expressing his contempt, "Yeah, hahaha, the old Prime Minister with bad breath!" The Lannister guards around him immediately started to make a noise, "Prince Joffrey speaks so well!" The familiar flattering sound rang out again, and it was the jester on the ground.
Joffrey noticed him, and he screamed, "Hey, clown! Do you have the right to speak?" After saying that, he swung his sword and hit him, and the jester subconsciously dodged it.
Seeing this, Joffrey laughed in disbelief, "You dare to hide? You dare to dodge the prince's sword! Dog, teach him a lesson!" As he spoke, he punched and kicked the jester hard, "Damn the clown! Damn the clown! Aaaaa!" The jester cried and faced the prince's abuse.
Attis then noticed that among the many cheering people next to Joffrey, there was a tall man with a terrifying face. He opened his ugly face and showed a terrifying smile, "Okay, Prince." The tall man picked up the poor and short jester and gently threw him to the weapon table beside him. The jester's dry and thin skin was instantly cut open with several cuts, and blood flowed out. The jester loudly begged for mercy, "Your Highness, I'm very sorry! I shouldn't hide, I deserve to die! I deserve to die!" He kept slapping his mouth while saying this, and tears and snot flowed uncontrollably all over his face. He also smeared tears and snot on his hair in front of Joffrey to please him.
"Hahahahahaha!" The laughter exploded around like gunpowder. Joffrey himself bent over and covered his stomach and laughed wantonly. Marin Trant enjoyed watching all this, and the ugly man who was called a dog was making fun of him, "Yes, you shouldn't hide, you stupid son of a bitch."
"Please allow me to leave, Your Highness." Attis looked at all this coldly, and left quietly.
Attis didn't want to see this scene, and left the prince's training ground depressed, and walked to the side of the equipment table not far from the Baratheon Royal Guard. He was depressed that the prince was so spoiled at such a young age, which made him unwilling to have too much interaction with him. Although his likes and dislikes were well hidden at the age of twelve, he still had some reactions in his heart, not to mention that Joffrey's disrespect for the king's prime minister made him doubt whether he was a good prince.
When Attis looked back again, he was surprised to find that there was a family emblem on the back of the jester's clothes. He couldn't identify which noble it came from after careful identification, but it must be a wealthy knight class. "The prince's behavior is not appropriate." Attis thought silently. He no longer had the mood to appreciate the Red Castle Parade Grounds, and left the parade grounds with the guards of the Arryn family.
According to his father's instructions last night, Attis came to the White Sword Tower, which has always been the bedroom of the seven Kingsguards. After asking the guards for instructions outside the tower, he waited quietly. After calming down the emotions caused by the encounter with the prince, he was now in a turmoil again because he was about to meet the greatest knight in the world, Ser Barristan Selmy the Fearless.
While he was wandering in the world of imagination, Barristan had quietly come down the tower and approached him.
Atis caught a glimpse of his figure, with white hair and white armor, and immediately reacted and said excitedly: "Ser Barry Barristan."
Barristan walked briskly, so strong and elegant in Atis' eyes. "Please express my respect to your father, the young man of the Arryn family."
"Of course, sir." Atis tried to keep his words brief.
Barristan looked at himself with his sad blue eyes, "Exactly the same as the maester described." Atis was also looking at him, thinking excitedly in his heart.
The knight's white hair was combed long and smooth, like the white fluff that occasionally poured down in the snow valley. "Maybe it should be cut short." Atis couldn't help thinking.
"Atis? Your name is Atis, right?".
"Yes, sir." Atis responded.
Barristan pinched the muscles on Atis's arm and asked, "Only twelve years old?" After getting the affirmation, he patted Atis's light armor with appreciation, "Pick up your sword, let me see how you practice."
Atis' eyes lit up when he heard it, he excitedly drew out the steel sword and looked at Barristan excitedly.
"You started practicing with a sharpened steel sword so early?" Barristan flashed his blue eyes, looked at him with a smile, and drew out his long sword.
Atis stabilized his lower body, kept his feet close to the ground, and looked at the white knight in front of him seriously.
Barristan didn't waste time, took the initiative to show his back to Atis, turned around and swung the long sword at Atis. Atis held the sword firmly to defend himself, but the heavy force on the sword was transmitted, and he almost slipped out of his hand. He seized the opportunity and stabbed Barristan's armored back with the sword.
Just as the tip of the sword was about to stab Barristan's back, Atis even considered whether to stop his hand to show that he had stopped.
But Barristan's back moved quickly before his eyes, and the pain in his back preceded his attack. He suddenly realized that Ser Barristan was hitting him with the back of his sword. He fell heavily to the ground, and in an instant He quickly put one hand on the ground and rolled to open up the space between him and Ser Barristan.
"The long sword is indeed not suitable for close combat, young man." Barristan saw his posture, and the admiration on his face became stronger. "But you have to see who the opponent is, right?" Barristan put away his relaxation. expression, looking at him seriously.
Attis was not discouraged by the failure of this attack. He took a few deep breaths, stabilized his breath and mind, and stood with his sword in hand.
The sound of sword strikes continued to be heard in the air, sweat slid down his cheeks, and his feet were suddenly struck by a long sword. Attis felt his calf being hit hard by the back of the sword. His lower body suddenly lost balance, and his upper body was once again struck by the knight's arm. A heavy elbow strike and Attis fell to the ground again.
Attis's handsome face suddenly turned green, and the left side of his face was slightly swollen. He was breathing heavily, holding the bangs in front of his forehead with his hands, and staggered to stand up again.
"Young man, you are already very powerful. Even the Oath Brothers of the Kingsguard can't stand up to me for a few rounds." Barristan pulled Attis up and touched his hair, "And you and I are still fighting. Back."
Artis just forced a smile. He guessed that Jazz was just talking.
"Ser James can only fight you for a few rounds?" he asked out of curiosity.
Barristan didn't expect him to ask this question, and immediately frowned, "Sir Jaime is a brave enough knight, with superb martial arts, but he has a little temper. Great knights have always been like this. When we confront each other, we often stick to the point."
A great knight, this is not the case with what Attis has accepted about Jaime Lannister. The knights of the Vale often refer to this man as "Kingslayer", including his own father who often calls him this in private. ·Lannister.
"But he should not continue to wear white," Barristan said.
Attis did not respond when he heard this, and changed the subject with Barristan.
The two were talking and laughing. Looking from a distance, one big and one small, the slant shadows pulled down by the sun were long dragged into the shade of the trees on the side. In the eyes of others, they were obviously friends who had been together for the past year.
At dusk, a team emerged from the royal forest, and the crowned stag flag was sprinkled with the afterglow of the setting sun, like a gold powder decoration.
King Robert was riding on a horse, his fat but still strong body shaking on the horse, and the cupbearer on the side followed closely on a pony. After a while, a white-robed knight came back in front. His blond hair was particularly dazzling. He was obviously the Jaime Lannister mentioned by Attis. "Your Majesty the King, the eldest son of the Arryn family has been waiting for a long time.".
Robert was stunned for a moment, then laughed heartily, his throat trembling up and down, and his whole body seemed to be trembling, "The eaglet of the Arryn family is here! Quick, let's go to the Red Keep!".
Robert leapt on his horse, and the guards behind him hurriedly followed. As soon as they entered the gate of King's Landing, they were recognized by many residents. The shouts of "Long live King Robert!" thundered, chasing Robert's footsteps like the wind.
By the time Robert saw Attis, the sun had completely set. Jon Arryn had also left politics and came to the hall of the Red Keep, where the Iron Throne, a symbol of power, stood.
Attis Arryn knelt on one knee in front of the Iron Throne. All the royal ministers were present, including Littlefinger Betyr Baelish, who had already met, and Minister of Intelligence Varys.
The iron-faced and serious Sea Lord, who was meticulously dressed, stood in front of the ministers, "Stannis Baratheon." Attis muttered silently, and it was indeed as rumored.
Sandwiched in the middle was Archmaester Pycelle, who was leaning on a cane. He noticed Attis' gaze and nodded slightly in greeting, but his eyes were lowered, as if he was asleep.
Barristan was at the foot of the high platform, standing upright, holding the hilt of his sword, while His Highness the Prince whom he had seen during the day was standing next to the White Knight with a look of disdain on his face.
His father sat on a small seat under the Iron Throne and looked at Attis encouragingly. Attis walked forward with a smile and knelt down on one knee, "Your Majesty, Attis of the Arryn family sends greetings to you.".
Robert, who was sitting on the Iron Throne, looked at Attis with satisfaction. He pointed at Attis and said, "Look, this is my biological brother!".
Stannis below frowned when he heard this and turned away. Attis also clearly saw his father's face twitch, slightly embarrassed.
The ministers and the noble women gathered in the hall cheered and applauded, which made Attis think that Joffrey wanted to imitate his father and enjoy the cheers around him.
Robert kept grinning and seemed to be enjoying it. He waved his hand and said, "Attis, eagle of the valley, you might as well come closer and let me see, haha!"
Stannis took a step forward and said, "Your Majesty, please forgive me for saying too much, but the Iron Throne cannot be trampled on at will.".
"You know how to talk, so don't talk! Attis, come here." Robert looked at Attis impatiently, and Attis could only walk up the high platform composed of countless swords. Stannis' livid face turned away and he strode out of the hall.
Varys gave him a flattering smile as sweet as honey as he left. Stannis snorted and did not look back.
Robert ignored his second brother. He looked at Atis's strong body. "I went to war when you were just born. I only saw you a few times. You are so strong now!? Hey, Jon, your valley has a successor, hahaha! This is simply a natural guardian of the East, hahahaha", and then he turned Atis around, so that Atis could clearly enjoy the cheers of the crowd.
"You should meet Joffrey more often. He has the same temper as me. You can definitely get along with him haha!" Robert looked at Prince Joffrey beside Barristan, who pouted his little mouth and looked at Atis provocatively.
"I have met His Royal Highness this morning. His diligence is impressive, and his martial arts are also formidable." Atis complimented skillfully. After saying that, he felt that Joffrey's mouth was about to rise to the sky not far away.
"Seven Gods, who gave this kid a lovely mouth?" Robert laughed, "Artis, keep some of your childish cleverness. Seeing you is like seeing Ned in the North. Hey! But he doesn't have your mouth, but you two are very similar." Robert sighed heavily and patted his shoulder.
When Artis came down, his head was dizzy, and a smile was always on his face. Robert saw this scene and nodded with satisfaction, "Okay, enjoy dinner!" He waved his hand, stepped off the high platform of the Iron Throne, and got into the dimple.
The singer sang the bear and the beautiful girl, and the whole hall was filled with laughter and music. The vulgar music made his father a little uncomfortable, but he still smiled and said to himself, "Cheer up, Robert specially gave you a dinner. This song is vulgar, but it is also a song that reflects Robert's wisdom."
"Wisdom?" Attis was a little confused, so he just picked up the knife and fork and enjoyed the exquisite food in the dinner.
Littlefinger raised his glass and looked at him with a smile. Atis also raised his glass to show his respect, but his glass was filled with sweet milk.
Not far from Atis, several pairs of eyes were observing the situation around him intentionally or unintentionally. When the maid handed Atis milk, they took over the maid's job as if they were familiar with it, and chose to give it to Atis personally. His companions threw away their cups and replaced them with new milk, which was the one in Atis's hand.
On the high tower not far away, a woman in red who looked very similar to Sir Jaime was looking at the celebration here. "Robert went to great lengths for a little vulture!", a vicious voice came out of her mouth.
There was actually a warm little bed in the tower, and Jaime Lannister lay on it. He said disapprovingly: "To show the unity of the two families of Stag and Eagle, he is also paving the way for Little Joff."
"It's still our Lannister money, Jaime." Cersei sat on Jaime's legs and looked at Jaime with green eyes. Jaime felt that his whole body was fascinated by Cersei's breath, and he was deeply immersed in it. When he reacted, he had already pressed Cersei on the bed and kissed her hard.
"Don't worry, it's just a few gold dragons." Jaime said in a deep voice. He listened to Cersei's panting, and the two rolled on the bed.
Before the end of the dinner, Artis and his father returned to the Prime Minister's Tower. His father was drunk, which made Lady Lysa disgusted. She ordered the servants to put his father on the bed, and she went to the reception room with Robin to rest. Artis didn't go back to his room to rest until his father snored like thunder.
Looking back on the whole day, Artis rubbed his sore arm, which was the evidence of fighting with the greatest knight, and he fell asleep with joy.
