Eagle of the Valley of Ice and Fire

Chapter 48 Trout will pay the price

Cersei's letter

Tywin Lannister looked at the letter sent by his daughter Cersei repeatedly with great impatience.

The general meaning is that Stark went south with the wolves, but in fact he was targeting Cersei and Lannister. When the former Prime Minister was in power, Grand Maester Pycelle secretly told the Queen that the former Prime Minister was investigating Jaime and Cersei herself, and Eddard Stark, who was brought from Winterfell by King Robert, took over the investigation and controlled King's Landing and the Red Keep together with Artis Arryn in the Vale, and the king completely trusted the wolf and the eagle.

He rubbed his temple, his fingers were cold, and his bones would hurt inadvertently every morning, but he did not mention this to any outsiders. Only Kevan and the maester knew about this. Even his own children did not know his physical condition at all.

Tywin would not let anyone see his weaknesses, including weaknesses that would be exposed sooner or later. He even shaved off all his hair without hesitation when he found that he was beginning to lose hair, leaving only thick golden beards on his temples. The sparse hair only proved that he was aging, and he would not allow such a signal to be generated in the minds of anyone who had seen him.

He turned his head to look at the window. The waves were carrying useless noises and hitting the rocks at the bottom of Casterly Rock. Even if Tywin was in his bedroom, he could hear the "booming" sound.

Of course, Tywin knew what Eddard Stark was investigating. Kevan had already secretly revealed this unfortunate and extremely disappointing news to him, but he was unwilling to believe and accept it. He also knew that the power of the lions in King's Landing was difficult to touch, and the union of wolves and eagles was indestructible. Moreover, King Robert trusted Eddard Stark far more than the Mad King Aerys trusted himself.

He made a plan in advance and sent one of his dogs, Amory Lorch, to pretend to be a bandit to burn, kill and loot in the king's territory, with the purpose of luring out Eddard Stark's 300 wolf army, but the result was not ideal. After the new Duke of the Vale, Artis Arryn, made a mess, he expelled Janos Slynt, who was trusted by the queen, from King's Landing, allowing Artis Arryn to control the armaments of King's Landing.

Tywin took a deep breath and stood up. The dawn had already colored the sky on the side of Casterly Rock. He had to fulfill his duties as the Duke of Casterly Rock and listen to the voices of the people and nobles.

The golden corridor surrounded him. This corridor has existed since the establishment of Casterly Rock. Whether it is the walls on both sides or the decorations on the walls, they are all plated with a layer of gold, but its appearance is not very luxurious. The decoration is simple and the ornaments are old. The glorious deeds of the Lannister family in the heroic age are obscure and difficult to discern. It is full of the weight of history, not the cheap hypocrisy and splendor of the nouveau riche.

Tywin sat in the main hall. There were no civilians in the hall, only Jaime and Kevan.

"Father," Jaime's voice, "let me lead the army in the Golden Tooth City. I will definitely surround Riverrun, rescue Tyrion, and maintain the honor of the family."

Since Tywin knew that the wolf eagles in King's Landing were in control of the situation, he was actually very happy to see Jaime returning to Casterly Rock from King's Landing, but his face did not show any emotion.

"Duke Hoster of Riverrun sent a letter to send Tyrion intact." Tywin said.

Jaime was a little surprised. "Send it?" He spread his hands. "Is it over?"

Tywin glanced at Jaime indifferently.

"I knew it." Jaime smiled as if he knew it. "At least wait until Tyrion returns to Casterly Rock before we take action." He suggested to Tywin.

Tywin did not answer, and said, "Duke Hoster is seriously ill in bed. This letter was sent by Tytos Blackwood of Raventree City, but it was in the name of Hoster." He walked down the platform, "Edmure summoned the vassals and personally led the army to defend the Golden Tooth."

Jaime nodded, "Trout is unwilling to release the lion, and the following is what he asked for." He firmly believed that Tywin would let him lead the army south.

"Robert is still here. Without the statement of the Iron Throne, the Golden Tooth City will not move." Tywin rejected Jaime's request to lead the army.

Jaime disagreed, "My father is not weak, no one can provoke Lannister."

"Your father is standing here," Tywin said, "No one can change this. If you want to lead the army, I will definitely give you a chance, but the time has not come yet." Tywin rarely gave explanations to people, but Jaime was his eldest son, so he tried to be patient.

Jaime wanted to speak, but Uncle Kevan interrupted him and he had to keep silent.

"I have important news." Kevan looked at Jaime and did not move.

"You," Tywin immediately knew it was about Jaime and Cersei, so he said to Jaime, "Go out first."

Jaime looked at Tywin with disdain, "Of course, my Lord." Then he turned and left, deliberately scraping the floor with his scabbard, making a creaking sound as he left.

Tywin stared at Jaime's back until he disappeared behind the thick door.

"He looks like this, wearing a white robe," Tywin said, "I think it's a waste for him, and the white robe."

Kevan smiled, "Don't worry, Jaime will change his mind sooner or later and take off the white robe."

Tywin withdrew his concern for his son and asked, "What's the news?"

"Grand Maester Pycelle's news, Stark may have reached the final stage of the investigation." Kevan said carefully, he saw Tywin's eyes gradually dim, "But Pycelle declined, saying that the book was in the Citadel and was not handed over to Stark."

"King's Landing" Kevan knew that Tywin didn't want to think about it, but he still reminded him that King's Landing was the world of wolves and eagles.

"I know," Tywin turned around and looked at the magnificent wall of the main hall. He was silent and thoughtful. Although this book is not handed down very often, many nobles have this book in their library towers, otherwise he would have secretly burned all these books long ago.

Kevan did not disturb him, staying beside Tywin and keeping quiet.

The main hall fell into silence. The thick walls were well soundproofed. Even though this place was closer to the surging waves than the bedroom, no sound could be heard.

Until the maester pushed the thick door of the hall.

Kevan looked at the maester who came. The maester tiptoed towards Tywin, nodded to him first, and then walked to Tywin who was thinking, "My lord, Riverrun sent an accusation to King's Landing."

"Accusation?" Kevan spoke first, "Could it be the fictitious accusation against Tyrion?"

Tywin nodded to the maester.

The maester continued, "That's not the case, Ser Kevan," he turned to Tywin, "accusations against the Eyrie."

Tywin finally opened his eyes.

"Speak quickly," Tywin ordered.

"Edmure Tully accused," the maester said slowly and methodically, "accusing Atis Arryn of illegally imprisoning the former Prime Minister's wife, Lysa Arryn, and submitting a request to the Iron Throne to ask Atis Arryn to withdraw the cavalry stationed outside the Blood Gate to prevent Arryn from attacking the Riverlands from behind."

Tywin said, "Where did you get the news from?"

"It was a secret accusation, but King Robert was furious and severely reprimanded the Tully family in the Red Castle. Our people..." the maester replied.

Kevan inadvertently found that Tywin seemed to have a faint smile on his lips, and he thought he had seen it wrong.

"Thank you, maester," Tywin expressed his gratitude to the maester.

Kevan glanced at Tywin and smiled knowingly. Tywin did not smile in response, but Kevan knew very well that Tywin must be smiling at this moment.

"The trout will pay the price for this. It only takes a few simple countermeasures." Tywin said, he breathed a sigh of relief, and the complete plan had taken shape in his mind.

Alas, writing a book is really tiring. The outline has been adjusted again, and two drafts have been overturned! Oh my God!
