Enigmas
Chapter 14
The bandit swung down his axe and Yoan moved to block his attack. Sadly, his arms were too heavy and his movements were slowing down, the fatigue hitting him. He was confident in blocking the bandit's attack, thus, he didn't avoid it.
"AHHHHHH!" Yoan let out a pained scream, the axe slashing at his arm and his body. Blood splattered everywhere and the bandit doesn't seem fazed. On the other hand, Hilia let out a horrified shriek, her hand flying to her mouth.
If the bandit still had the same stamina he had from the beginning, his axe would have done more severe damage.
"Yoan!" Hilia exclaimed, terrified and tears welled up in her eyes.
No, Yoan! Don't do this to me! You can't do this to me! Not after what I...I've been through!
Her hands trembled as she slammed her staff into the ground. "Hang on, Yoan! Just hang on, please!"
By Lylena, goddess of the Wind.
Grant me the power to control the air.
Grant me the power to conjure magnificent storms.
I call upon thee.
A violent wind swept past Hilia and her eyes became a piercing golden. Her staff dissipated into air and she brought her fist up, opening her hand. A tiny whirlpool of air sat in her palm and her eyes glowed brighter as she blew on it, the whirlpool shot out of her hands, becoming a tornado. The environment around her didn't seem to be affected by it, her long hair danced wildly to the strong wind from the tornado, her golden eyes focused darkly on the bandit.
The bandit who was preparing to attack a dazed Yoan again tensed up, his eyes bulging out as he noticed the tornado spinning towards him rapidly. Yoan only glanced at Hilia, before giving in to his pain, falling unconscious, he had lost a significant amount of blood.
The tornado swallowed the bandit up, like a hunter intent on catching its prey.
"Go far away, and never come back!"
The tornado increased its speed, carrying the bandit along with it and Hilia felt a piercing pain in her head. She cried out in pain, her irises changing shape as she recalled the warning from her grandmother.
"Remember, my dear grandchild. The goddesses of the wind, fire, water and earth are violent, greedy and desirous. If your mind isn't strong, they will try to consume your soul, and take over your body. Your body can't handle their immortal souls and you'll cease to exist, Hilia."
Hilia resisted against the pain, not wanting to give in. She began to hear the voices deep within her mind, echoing in constant whispers of an unknown language. She knew she needed to hold on a bit longer, to ensure that the bandit was truly gone, in a far away place.
"Vul sai tur hei."
"Vul sai tur hei."
"Vul sai tur hei!"
A force struck her from the inside, causing her to cough out blood repeatedly and her hand flew to her mouth. Seeing the blood on her hand, Hilia gazed towards Yoan, who had fainted from the loss of blood and the excruciating pain.
Hopefully, the bandit is at a far enough distance and too injured to move. A tornado like that would have torn a person into pieces, but with the bandit...he'll be barely alive even with those unexplained powers.
She mused to herself, going back to her normal state and she staggered towards Yoan. She gasped weakly at the pool of blood surrounding him, kneeling beside him, her face ghastly pale and she reached her trembling hand out to him. Placing it on his chest, she inhaled shakily, closing her eyes as she was bathed in a warm, yellow light.
She opened her mouth, and a second later, she began to sing in a gentle voice.
"Vie oul til ye kie, jil oul drui tei, sol ya pil kroe na hie gul."
The soothing melody made some of the villagers peek out of their windows, and they were enchanted by the shimmering aura around Hilia, along with her beautiful singing.
The warm light spread across the large gash on Yoan's body, curing and sealing his wounds up magically. Hilia finished her chant, opening her eyes and she gazed down at Yoan's body, relief coursing through her. Tears rolled down her face and a choked sob escaping her lips, her hands were still shivering as she caressed Yoan's cheeks, a teary smile on her lips. A second later, her eyes rolled to the back of her head and she collapsed to the ground, right beside Yoan.
The villagers realised it was finally safe and rushed outside, helping the injured, including Yoan and Hilia. It was a hectic mess, but nevertheless, all the villagers were alive and well.
