18. That Calm Night…

Translator: Flying Lines

The ambulance rattled bleakly on this rainy night!

The miserable cries of a young girl were heard from inside the car, and through the window, two doctors and nurses were seen nervously holding down the girl who was lying on the portable bed and nearly frantic, desperately struggling and crying out, “My face… my face… help me! who can help me…”

The doctor had only to take out the tranquilizer at once and inject it into the girl’s arm. The girl kept on tearing and crying in agony, feeling her face was burnt by fire. And she tugged at the white bed sheets with her veins bursting on the backs of her hands!

The two nurses pressed her tightly against the bed and took the elastic straps to strap her to the mobile bed, while she continued hissing and howling in pain with her head up. It was as if a long time had passed before the drug took effect, and she gradually fell asleep on the moving bed as if she was dead with her hand drooping to one side and looking pitifully.

The phone rang frighteningly in the night.

A woman aging about twenty-three, with a short-flat-curly hair and a good-looking face, crawled up from her warm bed and reached out to turn on the lamp in front of her bed sleepily. And then she answered the phone with a muddled and husky voice, “Hello…”

When listening to the call, she was so stunned and shocked at the terrible news that her eyes were filled with tears of horror, and cried out in distress. After the call, she immediately moved away the quilt and shiveringly got up to dress up and went out!

It was a night of terror and heaviness.

The taxi braked in front of the emergency room annex. Yahui rushed out of the car, holding back her frustration and walking madly to the corridor of the emergency room. According to the doctor’s instructions, when she arrived at the emergency room, she saw doctors and nurses coming out of the emergency room, all with serious and tense expressions. Her face was pale, and a chill ran through her body immediately. She ran to the emergency room at once and grabbed a nurse who had just stepped out, tremblingly and chokingly to ask, “Doctor! I’m Tang Miaoyu’s family. How is she now?”

The nurse glanced at her and was about to say something, but eventually shook her head, not making an answer, and hurried off into the weird cloister.

Yahui turned her head and looked at the nurse’s back. With an even more ominous feeling, her heart kept thumping. She looked up at the light in front of the emergency room, and said worriedly, “What the hell happened to you? You were fine all the time before!”

Time passed by in a more and more tense atmosphere.

The lights went off in the hospital’s emergency room!

Yahui nervously rushed to the door of the emergency room, shivering with fear as the doctor’s face looked serious. She was so frightened that she asked, “Doctor! How’s the patient? Was she hurt badly?”

The doctor sighed softly and said in sympathy, “The left of her face was burned by acid. Luckily there was a drizzle to dilute it, but it still burned the skin. You had better make her prepared for disfigurement. We had tried our best already.”

Yahui fell back and was shocked at the message. She gripped her sleeve and cried out nervously, “Doctor! Please rescue her! How can a woman living with that face! What could she do? She’s already had a hard life. Please do something for her. Can we get skin grafts? Is there anything else we can do?  She couldn’t be disfigured.”

The doctor shook his head helplessly.

“Doctor…” tears rolled down Yahui’s face, trying to beg again…

“When she wakes up, please comfort her. She might not be in a stable mood during this period of time…” The physician sighed softly and walked out.

Watching the doctor leave with tears, Yahui suddenly felt so sad that she couldn’t speak. At this moment, the door of the emergency room opened gently, and two of the guardians gently pushed the sickbed and walked out.

Miaoyu lying in the sickbed was wearing a snow-white hospital gown. She didn’t sleep because of the anesthetic. But her left face was wrapped with deathly gauze, covering her beautiful face, and her left shoulder and right hand were wrapped up. Her entire body was covered with scars, as if she was torn by a devil last night. She felt a great pain in her heart, lowering her body and cried, “Miaoyu!”

Tang Miaoyu on the mobile bed went to sleep peacefully.

Early next morning.

The birds were on the branches, chirping softly.

Many white buildings in the hospital were like clusters of light from heaven, reflecting a terrifying color.

In a ward, there came the soft whispers from the physician and the nurse, and Yahui’s tired voice of gratitude, “Physician, she has been in a coma for several hours. When will she wake up?”

“She is about to wake up. We won’t use any more tranquilizer. However, when she wakes up, do inform us, because her emotion is extremely unstable and might do something to hurt herself…” The physician continued.

“Thank you, physician…” Yahui thanked her sincerely again.

A cry of pain came from the bed.

Yahui turned around tensely and watched her best friend wriggling slightly on the bed. She immediately rushed to the bed and cried out with tension, “Miaoyu..”
