Chapter 1: “Am I not providing good service?”
“Oh, isn’t this Master Yu?” The man sitting at the bar stretched out his hand and snapped his fingers, greeting him, “Come on over here and order something.”
All the guests turned their attention to Yu He, and even the servers waiting by the wall turned their heads to observe how Yu He would respond to being seen with them.
Yu He, a famous second-generation wealthy man in Fengcheng, is proficient in all aspects of eating, drinking, and entertainment. He is the leader among the dandies and a well-known wastrel in the wealthy circles.
Wastrels are not uncommon, so why is Yu so famous? This is thanks to his natural advantage – he was born with a good-looking appearance.
Although Yu He has many flaws, his good looks are so flawless that even the pickiest person can’t find any faults.
In two words: beautiful. (In Chinese, ‘beautiful’ is two words.)
Yu He used to be a frequent visitor to this private club, calling friends and spending money like water. But that was all before today. From today on, Yu He is no longer the young master of the Yu family, but a stray dog.
This is because he is not the biological son of the Yu family in Fengcheng. The nurse had accidentally switched two babies with the same surname, causing the real young master to be lost and live outside for nineteen years!
It is said that the real young master is named Yu Qingyan, who grew up in an ordinary family, worked and studied part-time, and was admitted to a prestigious university. On the other hand, the fake young master, Yu He, has accomplished nothing.
As for Yu He, the cuckoo’s child who has taken over the magpie’s nest, the Yu family naturally kicked him out of the house, severing all ties with him.
This club is called “Jinse Terrace” and is extremely private, only open to wealthy families. Yu He was able to work here because he was reportedly arranged by the real young master’s boyfriend.
Yu He went from being a young master to a servant in a single night, experiencing all the ups and downs of life. It’s like the person sitting at the bar, who used to be a nobody and couldn’t even talk to Yu He when he was a young master, but now dares to call him a dog.
Yu He’s expression remained unchanged as he went to the cabinet by the wall to get the tablet for ordering.
“That’s Chen Biao,” the waiter standing by the cabinet whispered to Yu He. “He’s already had a lot to drink. Should I go instead?”
Yu He’s lips were very pretty. He smiled and raised the corners of his mouth. “Thank you.” He looked at the English letters on the work badge on the waiter’s chest and struggled to read them aloud: “Sha…”
“Shawn,” the waiter said, taking the initiative to provide the transliteration, “you can just call me Xiao Xiao.”
Yu He picked up the tablet. “Okay, I’ll go.”
“You should call the customer boss,” Xiao Xiao cautioned, looking worried.
Yu He tilted his head and made a reassuring expression towards Xiao Xiao.
This is the second-floor lobby of the club, a music bar for receiving individual guests. Those who are truly wealthy don’t sit on the second floor or at the bar. The bar is not particularly quiet, but as soon as Yu He turned around and took only two steps, he heard a sneer from behind, as another server was teasing Xiao Shawn.
“Xiao Shawn, you really know how to flatter, but too bad…”
Yu He walked through the crowd and continued forward, regretting that he didn’t hear what was said after “too bad.”
It’s not hard to guess that it wasn’t a good conversation. Harsh words were something that Yu He had heard too many times, and he had long been numb to them.
He placed the tablet he was holding in front of Chen’s table and asked, “What would you like to order Mr Chen?” Chen’s face was red with drunkenness. He propped his head up with his arm and used his other hand to swipe on the tablet. “Young Master Yu,” he burped, “I heard you were kicked out of your home?”
“Yeah,” Yu He responded calmly, without getting angry. He asked Chen again, “What would you like to order, sir?”
Chen Biao was deliberately trying to trouble Yu He.
He was swiping his finger on the tablet, and asked back, “What does Young Master Yu He usually order?”
Yu He swore that he didn’t mean to confront Chen Biao, but he couldn’t stop him from asking stupid questions repeatedly.
Yu He stood there and truthfully answered, “Chen Boss, I haven’t sat in the hall before. The menu in the upstairs private rooms seems to be different from that of the hall. I’m really sorry that I can’t recommend any drinks for you.”
Suddenly, the surroundings became silent, and the people who were secretly watching exchanged glances.
Besides his good looks, what Yu He was equally famous for was his mouth.
Someone once commented, ‘It’s a really good crane’s beak he has there, even harder than a dead duck’s mouth. It hurts when he pecks at people!’
Yu He is lazy all day long, with a laid-back personality that doesn’t worry about anything. He speaks indifferently, casually provoking others. While you’re getting anxious and jumping up and down, he wouldn’t even bother to lift his eyelids. Who wouldn’t be frustrated? Even if he said something well-intentioned, it would sound like a provocation coming from him. Besides, he doesn’t speak very politely.
At this, Chen Biao became angry. His alcohol-fueled anger surged up, and he threw the tablet onto the ground. Then he grabbed Yu He by the collar and asked, “What did you say?”
The servers standing by the wall quickly surrounded them and gently advised Chen Biao. Manager Wang Wuchuan heard the commotion and rushed over.
Chen Biao swung his arm and pushed everyone away. He asked again, “What did you say earlier?”
Sure enough, Yu He didn’t even lift his eyelids and repeated his words verbatim.
Chen Biao became very angry and, in the heat of the moment, he raised his fist and struck at Yu He’s face.
Wang Wuchuan was alarmed, thinking to himself that one should never hit someone’s face, especially not Yu He’s face, which was too important. He stopped Chen Biao’s hand and, as the manager of the Jinse Tai, he had some authority. He managed to deflect Chen Biao’s fist.
“Mr Chen, you’ve had too much to drink. Lan Qi,” Wang Wuchuan called for a capable waiter and pushed Chen Biao towards him. “Take Mr Chen to the third floor and sober him up.”
After dealing with Chen Biao, Wang Wuchuan looked at Yu He and pointed to him, indicating that he didn’t say what he had to say in front of everyone: “Go to my office and wait for me.”
Yu He didn’t respond either way, instead, he bent down and picked up the tablet that Chen Biao had thrown on the ground. The strength of a drunk person was great, and the screen and body of the tablet were separated after being dropped, indicating that it was unusable.
Yu He placed the tablet on the bar and said to the bartender, “Add the cost of the tablet to Chen’s tab. He cares about his face, and if we don’t include it, it will look like we’re looking down on him.”
The crowd: “……” (Everyone was speechless.)
The bartender thought to himself: “It’s not me, I didn’t do anything.”
Wang Wuchuan’s blood pressure rose sharply, and he shouted, “Yu He!” Yu He tapped his finger on the bar to remind the bartender not to forget to charge Chen Biao’s account, and then put his hands in his pockets and walked away unsteadily.
Jinse Tai’s manager’s office was on the tenth floor.
Wang Wuchuan lit a cigarette, took a deep puff, and watched as shareholder Zhou Wenxiao introduced the fake young master who came to work.
Zhou Wenxiao is the boyfriend of the real young master Yu Qingyan, and he was determined to teach Yu He a lesson and avenge Yu Qingyan.
Jinse Tai has some channels, more or less, where pretty boys and girls take shortcuts. Zhou Wenxiao arranged for Yu He to work here and he knew very well that with that face of Yu He’s, it would be too easy for him to fall into depravity.
He ordered his subordinates to provide more opportunities for Yu He to ‘make a name for himself’.
But what does ‘making a name for oneself’ mean? Isn’t it just giving oneself up as a plaything to the powerful?
Wang Wuchuan took another drag on his cigarette, and the grey-blue smoke spread throughout the office.
Watching the moon in the water, admiring flowers in the mist, through the layer of smoke, Yu He’s face was as beautiful as jade. Even a straight man couldn’t help but take a few more glances. If he fell into the hands of someone who enjoyed this kind of thing, wouldn’t he be played to death?
“Yu He,” Wang Wuchuan leaned back in his boss chair with a cigarette in hand, carefully choosing his words. “I know you used to be a young master and never had to serve anyone, but this is the service industry. Do you understand what it means to serve?”
Yu He looked surprised and didn’t seem to understand why Wang Wuchuan had called him to the office for a private conversation. “Manager Wang, am I not serving well enough?” he asked.
“Well or not, you’ve only just started working as a waiter today.”
Yu He came to work for the first time and he had only done one thing so far, bringing a tablet to the counter, and even managed to drop it and shatter it. What can be evaluated from that?
Wang Wuchuan didn’t want to criticize Yu He, and of course, even if he did, it wouldn’t do any good. If Yu He could listen to others’ criticism, he wouldn’t have ended up in his current situation.
Wang Wuchuan said slowly, “The lobby is a bit noisy. How about you go to the 16th floor? You can earn more money there.”
The 16th floor is entirely composed of the most top-notch private rooms. The minimum spending for one night is at least a six-digit number. There is everything you can imagine, including music performances, calligraphy and painting exhibitions, and all sorts of entertainment. As long as you are willing to spend money, the 16th floor is like a paradise on earth, a fairyland in the Yaochi.
Yu He understood Wang Wuchuan’s implication, and he reached for the cigarette on the desk and leaned against the wall.
When he lowered his head and lit the cigarette, the orange flame reflected in his peach-blossom eyes, made him look handsome like a star.
He took a puff of the cigarette, then exhaled, without beating around the bush, he asked straightforwardly, “Manager Wang, are you asking me to sell myself?”
Wang Wuchuan was an old smoker, but he still choked on his cigarette when asked so bluntly, “Cough cough cough, you can’t say it like that. There are also many liquor salespeople on the 16th floor.”
Yu He’s expression was ambiguous, with a hint of a smile in his eyes. The mole beneath his eye was partially concealed and partially revealed, and he remained silent, only staring at Wang Wuchuan.
Under the scrutiny of such eyes and brows, Wang Wuchuan couldn’t sit still any longer. He stood up from his chair, closed the office door, and revealed the truth to Yu He: “Young Master Yu, to be frank with you, someone from above has singled you out.”
Yu He chuckled lightly and finally shifted his beautiful eyes away as if he had already anticipated this: “It’s not surprising.”
Wang Wuchuan gestured and said, “As you know, real big shots don’t come to the club to play. They prefer someone clean and obedient to keep at home. There are a few who like boys, and they’ve already inquired about you.”
The word “already” was quite subtle.
Yu He lowered his eyelashes and thought for a moment, “I heard about it even when I was still with the Yu family. They must be quite influential people.”
Wang Wuchuan exclaimed and affirmed, “Who says they’re not? So many people are keeping an eye on you…” He changed the subject, “But you’re lucky. While some people want to mess with you, there are also those who want to help you out.”
Help you out? Who in their right mind would come to Jinsetai to help someone out?
Yu He didn’t believe it in his heart. He thought that Wang Wuchuan was just saying these beautiful words to deceive him. He raised his eyes, and his dark pupils seemed to be able to see through people’s hearts. At the same time, he felt a sense of fatigue and realised that the covert struggles were truly boring.
Yu He said indifferently, “Whatever.”
Wang Wuchuan naturally knew that Yu He didn’t believe him.
Some people knew that Yu He was at Jinse Tai and went through several levels of relationships to specifically request that he be protected. By coincidence, they also entrusted it to Wang Wuchuan. Wang Wuchuan handled the situation with both parties involved, and since he had no grudges against Yu He, he was naturally willing to do this favour for him.
Wang Wuchuan was frank and said, “Jinse Tai is not a good place. Leave as soon as you can.”
Yu He flicked the ash into the ashtray, his fingers slender and beautiful like a painting. “Who is it?”
These hands reminded Wang Wuchuan of a boy who used to work at Jinse.
That boy also had slender hands, which he used to play the piano with great arrogance. After being taken away from Jinse, Wang Wuchuan didn’t see him again for a long time. When he did, six of his ten fingers were broken, and his body was covered in injuries. He could no longer play the piano.
The person who took away that boy also inquired about Yu He.
“There’s a guy named Fu who is willing to help you pay the breach of contract fee to leave Jinse Tai,” Wang Wuchuan gestured with his hand. “He’s never asked for anyone at Jinse Tai before, and I don’t know much about him except that he has some special preferences. If you can get close to him, he can protect you.”
Wang Wuchuan looked at Yu He seriously and repeated, “Only he can protect you.”
Three days later, a pure black extended G-class stopped in the underground parking lot.
Wang Wuchuan handed the termination contract to Yu He and instructed him: “When you get there, don’t be surprised by anything you see. I heard that the person’s health isn’t very good.” He lowered his voice: “Having poor health is a good thing, so they won’t tire you out day and night.”
If Yu He had heard this three days ago, he might have believed it, but after emergency theoretical training from his colleague Sean these past few days, Yu He remained sceptical.
If someone wanted to tire him out, who said they had to do it themselves?
