When you're in front of the enemy

even if your hands are trembling

fight

-Kureo Mado

A woman draped in a deep indigo cloak shouted.

I could only see her chapped lips, high level magic prevents me from seeing anything else.

My breath comes out in short pants as I collect myself. I don't feel safe here. An evil aura lurks around that has my skin covered in goosebumps. My muscles are tensed tight, ready for any sudden movement that could be a threat.

"I just want to speak to you." Her voice is soft, smooth, seductive. It makes me wonder what type of work she does.

I don't answer her, I only stare, apprehensiveness clear as day in my eyes.

"I know you don't trust me. I wouldn't either. I'm sorry about the sudden attack earlier, one of my clans high ranking elders wanted to test you. You're pretty strong for your age."

I let no emotion show on my face. "I'd like to propose an alliance."

An alliance? For what!? Do they know who I am?

"I know you had an involvement in the death of one of my clan's women. The bracelet on your arm is a big clue."

The Akumi tribe! No wonder when I arrived a sudden bunch of people tried to kill me. That still doesn't explain why they brought me here though...

"You know we live near the border. My people can sense the aura around here changing. It's making us sick. Clansmen are also going missing at night. Dead bodies return weeks later, limbs missing and devoid of any blood."

The beasts are starting to escape. I can feel my heart lurch in my throat. I was fine with the idea in theory but now that it's reality I realize that I'm still mortal. I can die again in this war. Something that I didn't even willingly choose to be apart of in the first place.

Eh? Why are they asking me this? I hate asking questions. I hate not knowing.

"The oracle that saw the vision was a descendant of our tribe. We know more about the war than anyone. If you give us safety I can provide you with information that you need."

"What if I say no? What makes you think that I need your help?" I say.

"It's not good to be so arrogant young one. Just because you may not need it now, does not mean you won't in the future. Call in your forces and We shall provide you with ours." There's a tinge of confidence in the woman's tone. As if she knows that I can not refuse.

I'm hesitant. I don't trust this tribe. They sent someone to try and seduce my father. Why all of a sudden would they want bygones to be bygones. There must be some kind of weakness for them to reach out towards an enemy.

I really have a lot of reading to do.

"Is that a yes Melia?"

With all seriousness in my voice I reply, "It's a yes."

I run into Sebastian in the halls. He says he has something to tell me.

"Ora's in the infirmary. You need to see her now." His grip on my arm is abnormally tight. It hurts a bit.

"Ouch, Tian tian that hurts I'm coming but you are squeezing my arm too tight." It's as if he doesn't hear me as he pulls me along the hallways.

Abnormally there's bȧrėly anyone.

Sebastian is acting weird. There must be something seriously wrong with Ora. I can't figure out what. Maybe she got a concussion during mount training or something similar. I hope she's okay. I wouldn't know what I'd do if she was seriously hurt.

I am so caught up in my thoughts that I bȧrėly notice the wall in front of me and I hit my head, hard.

*BAM*

"Ssssss," I hold my right hand up to my head as a reflex. Sebastian stops to check on me and when I look at him I notice his aura is off. It's black.

My heart turns cold, when someone's aura is black it means that they bear ill will towards you. My future fiancé wants to harm me.

"I can visit her later, let me go." I command.

He is not taking me seriously. He laughs exasperatedly as if I am the one being ridiculous.

"Come on Melia, I'm serious. Why are you being so difficult."

Melia? Sebastian never calls me by my full name. It has always been Mel bel or Mel! I turn around to walk away, evading his outstretched hand attempting to pull me back.

All of a sudden a wall appears in my view, it stops me in my tracks.

"You're not going anywhere." Sebastian's voice drops a whole octave.

The sound is so grizzly and I feel a shiver up my spine. I knew something was off. This isn't Sebastian. I keep my body turned around away from that creature. Taking in a deep breathe I prepare myself for whatever I am about to face.

I can't help but think about how if I hadn't got knocked down by a truck then I probably would have been under my covers in my dark room reading the latest update the new story I had added to my online library. It was so good! And I'll never be able to find out what happens next. That is probably what I regret most about my death.

Slowly I turn around, calculating my defense tactics. I can never catch a break! What is with all these people and wanting to kill me!? The life of a main character sure is tough.

I hear the lights above me smash to smithereens one by one. The dust falls softly onto my silver hair.

"I've heard a lot about you M-E-L-I-A," It drags out my name. This situation eerily reminds me of my fight with Rowen. The dark energy in both encounters were the same. It is unsettling.

My ears twitch when I hear what I ȧssume to be a footsteps above me. I ball my fists and send a Scathing dragon attack in its direction. It is a fire ball, however once it hits its target it grows into a miniature flaming dragon that coils around its prey leaving burn marks in the shape of scales. It lasts about a minute. I learnt it from my master.

I hear a screeching sound so loud it pierces my eardrums and I get a splitting headache. The ground from under shakes and I wobble from side to side holding my head. The screeching suddenly stops, but I can feel a vein pulsating in my head. All I can hear is my heartbeat.

"That wasn't very nice what you did. I'm angry." I sense it before I feel the pain of its claws slashing my right arm. I narrowly avoid it hitting my neck. What is this thing?

"What are you?" I say through gritted teeth.

"I'm hurt Melia, you don't know what I am? After all, I'm a big part of your life. The very existence of your being
