[A/N I just want to say that this story is not completed it might be a glitch on because I am nowhere near finished and I don't know how to reverse it so that it can say uncompleted. Walking into the infirmary I'm ȧssaulted with the strong scent of herbs and blood. There are a lot of injured students in here but I don't see Ora. This place is big so I take my time in looking through all the aisles and doors which house the extremely important students.
I hope that I am over reacting and that she is okay. A sensation that I am being watched tickles me and I turn around hoping to catch the person. My eyes zero in on the one person that just had to be injured. Elizabeth.
"Melia, you came to visit me, I thought you were busy with your studies because I'd been in here for a couple days and you didn't come to see me. I was beginning to think you didn't care." Her voice is low but loud enough for the surrounding occupants to hear her clearly.
"Are they related?" Someone asks.
"I have no idea but that's cold to prioritize your studies over your injured sister." Another student responds.
Two guys begin gossiping. "I bet she thinks she's so high and mighty walking in here with her nose pointed up."
"Yeah, that girl has been in here for a couple days and bȧrėly anyone has come to visit her except for that one prince. She's so pretty too, I wouldn't mind courting her."
"That snobbish girl isn't too bad either, but she's too cold hearted for me. Her sister is so pitiful."
"She isn't even that pretty." A female student remarks, rolling her eyes.
The comments don't faze me at all as I skillfully tune them out. Of course she has to paint herself out to be the victim. I can already see the crocodile tears pooling at the bottom of her eyes. Her small hands clench the bed sheets and her shoulders shake from "held" back tears.
"I'm sorry. I didn't even know that you were in here. Nobody told me. I would have dropped everything the second I found out. You'll get better quickly though, you're used to getting minor injuries considering your mother's position in the palace am I right? However if you're so injured I can ask my father the emperor to grant your mother a leave of absence so that she can come to the academy and bring you back to the kingdom to nurse your injuries."
Quakingly she utters, "It's okay, I'll be better in a few more days." That shuts everyone up.
"She's a princess????"
"And her father's the emperor...I hope she doesn't know who we are. My dad's a merchant, he can't afford to have an angry emperor messing up business deals with his clients!"
"Shut up, he could probably be emperor of one of those small countries that nobody cares about. What damage could he possibly do?"
"Oh yeah, you're right. Who is she trying to threaten with those words. An arrogant princess of a small country threatening a defenseless student, how disgusting."
"Her father probably has multiple concubines and she probably isn't the only princess there too, she could be an unfavored one." How ironic, I smile at how stupid that person is.
It is probably boring in here so this little bit of 'drama' must be a breath of fresh air to them.
These people have cow dung for brains. I don't care what their interpretations of my words are though. As long as Elizabeth gets the message.
'I'm done here.' I think to myself and walk away, my long hair sways with each step I take. I keep searching for Ora, and it isn't until I reach the last door, after multiple apologies for intruding on some of the student's recovery time, do I think that I have finally found her.
I knock on the door twice and then I speak up, "Ora it's me, Mel...can I come in."
There's a bit of shuffling on the other side, before I hear her weak voice croak, "Come in."
I should have prepared myself for what I might've saw but I didn't. I regret that.
Medicinal herb books are strewn atop of her bed along with a pendant. Its an obsidian black, and the aura surrounding it strangely draws me in. Unknowingly I walk closer to it, before Ora's voice pulls me out of whatever it was I was going to do.
"You came to see me." Her midnight blue hair covers her face, I can not see her facial expression.
"Why wouldn't I? We're best friends. When Sebastian told me you were in here I had gotten so worried."
Her body tenses when I mentioned Sebastian, it was only a little bit though, so I pay that small action no mind. I check to see if there's anything different about her Ora but I don't sense anything bad, she only appears solemn.
"Yeah, we are." She slouches in her bed, seemingly disinterested in this conversation. Ora's exhausted.
"So, how come you're in here? Nothing serious I hope?" She removes the covers that hide the lower part of her body. My nose scrunch up at the overpowering smell of blood. Then I see her stump. It's growing back at a pace visible to the human eye. Slow I admit, but it's growing.
"...Something attacked me. It was a monster-" She gives a dry laugh.
"I thought I was strong enough to fend it off but-" She motions to her obvious missing limb. "...As you can see, I horribly underestimated it."
"Ora, I'm so sorry-" She cuts me off. "Why are you sorry? You have nothing to apologize before. It wasn't your fault. you're not the pathetic one..." Her tone is full of bitterness and pent up anger. My heart hurts seeing Gazora in this state.
"Ora, you're not pathetic at all. You are so strong and-"
"Yeah...I'm not pathetic? okay. As I was fighting that thing off I wished so bad for you to be there. To help me. But you weren't. I was all alone, my best friend was nowhere to be found. Thank goodness Sebastian found me when I did or I would be dead. I thought you would have been the first face I saw when I woke up. However you didn't show up until now....My only visitors were. Sebastian and that crazy alchemist lady. What took you so long."
She finally lifts up her head for me to see her face.
The rims are red. Those beautiful green orbs that used to be so happy are now dim. Her skin is a sickly pale. Everything about her oozes sadness.
"I didn't know. I'm sorry, Ora I'm so sorry I wish I could have been there to help you. I only just found out today after bumping into Sebastian. I'm sorry please forgive me." I squeeze her hand. It's so cold.
What she told me just now is so surreal. Sebastian saved her? Why didn't he tell me. He's also been visiting her these past few days too...that's understandable. The part that really struck a bell with me though, is the monster...and how she couldn't fight it off.
"No need to apologize. I'm grateful that Sebastian came in time. He saved my life. Could you tell him that I said thank you?"
"Yes, of course. Whatever you want." A crazed look crosses her face at my last statement.
"Anything?"
