Emma decided to answer Ulla's question and be friendly to her because the girl seemed so carefree and amiable. Ah ... maybe Therius was right when he said that Emma would make friends at the academy.

"I am a herbomancer," replied Emma kindly.

Ulla's face, which had looked enthusiastic, turned a little disappointed. Emma didn't know if Ulla was disappointed in her or felt sorry for her. Was it so bad to be a herbomancer?

"Oh ... you control the plants, don't you?" Ulla nodded her head. "I think it suits you. You look very sweet and gentle."

Emma was about to laugh at Ulla's words. She did not know that her demeanor was considered to be sweet and gentle. Emma was an aloof girl who would not hesitate to attack Therius and fight with him to avenge her family.

"How about you? What is your power?" Emma asked in return.

Ulla smiled proudly and raised her hand, showing a small flame on the tip of her index finger. "I'm a pyromancer."

The girl looked extremely proud of that tiny flame she created just now. Emma watched the girl's actions with a flat expression. For her, this was nothing extraordinary, considering she had several powers at once, including pyromancy.

Emma had also seen how Therius was able to do things far more amazing than what Ulla was doing now. Ah, of course, she couldn't compare Ulla to Therius. Her husband was a Level-10 pyromancer, or already at the highest level. Meanwhile, if Emma could guess Ulla's energy level, it was most likely that this girl was still at Level-2.

"What do you think?" asked Ulla, beaming. Her expression then turned to one of disappointment as Emma didn't seem amazed at the fire she had managed to create.

Emma guessed that all this time Ulla had always been getting praises from people who saw her creating fire like this. Whereas for Emma, this was an everyday thing, just like lighting a candle.

However, Emma was not a heartless girl. She did not insult Ulla's fire at all and smiled slightly, praising Ulla's little show.

"That looks good. How long have you been training your power?" she asked.

Ulla puffed up her chest and whispered proudly.

"I was trained by our senior," said Ulla with a happy face. "Ahhh ... you will surely admire him. You will see."

"Why would I admire him?" asked Emma, not understanding.

"He is the head of the student council at this academy. Now he is in his third year. If I'm not mistaken, he will give a speech as the student council president to the new students after Dean Anrankin has finished speaking."

"You seem to know that senior very well," said Emma.

Ulla put her index finger to her lips and said in a half-whispered voice as if she didn't want her secret to be found out.

"Why would I become his fan?" asked Emma flatly.

"Ahh .. if you are a normal girl, you will definitely like him. Apart from being the student council president, he is also really handsome and smart. What's more... he is a multiple-element mage. Almost all female students here like him."

Emma shook her head dryly and shrugged. "I don't think so. I already have a boyfriend. I won't be attracted to other men."

Ulla's face was suddenly filled with curiosity. Her eyes went round as she stared at Emma intently. "Is it true that you already have a boyfriend? What's his name? How old is he? Where did he attend school? Has he graduated?

"Is he also a mage like us? If he is a mage, what power does he have? If he is not a mage, how can you date him? Wouldn't it be bothersome if we had relationships with people who are different from us?"

Ulla's endless series of questions reminded Emma of the barrage of machine guns she had seen in the movies when she was on earth.

The girl frowned, especially when she heard Ulla's last sentence. She raised an eyebrow and ask her back. "So what if I am in a relationship with an ordinary person?"

"Well ... I mean, we mages have special powers that make us different from ordinary people. If anything happens, for example, the two of you are walking in the city center and are bullied by criminals... How can he protect you? It will be on you to protect yourself and him. I think, as a woman, I prefer men who are stronger than me and able to protect me."

Emma immediately thought of Horan. When she dated Haoran and then married him, they were different, just like what Ulla said. Emma had various magical powers, while Haoran was an ordinary human.

However, not once did Emma look down on Haoran. She knew that even though Haoran was not someone with magical powers, the young man had so many resources and skills that could make Emma admire him and in the end fall in love with him.

So, when Emma heard Ulla's words that ordinary people shouldn't have a relationship with a mage, Emma felt offended.

She then decided to scold her new school mate.

"Ulla, this power that we have should not make us arrogant. We get it by chance, not because we are special. We are only just LUCKY because we are chosen by the universe to be the messenger of the gods who can control the elements," Ema said in a flat tone.

Ulla frowned at Emma's words. She was still trying to argue. "I'm not bragging about having power. But I guess we are special. If our powers are not special, then everyone will have them."

"I don't think so. Whoever they are, if they are lucky, they can become a mage. This is not something to be proud of," said Emma again. Her tone began to sound cold.

Ulla looked at Ema with an astonished expression. "Why do you look down on mages? We should be proud of the abilities we have."

Emma shook her head, impatiently. "I feel there is nothing to be proud of and the abilities we have are not an excuse for us to look down on others. I know people who make me admire them even though they do not have the ability to control elements. My first boyfriend was an ordinary human. Even without any element bending power, he always made me feel safe and protected."

Ulla looked very confused. "I don't understand. How can you admire someone who can't control the elements? What can he do?"

"There are many things he can do," said Emma. "When I was with him, I feel safe. I feel protected. I feel that everything he did was very smart, and I really admire him."

A big smile broke across Ulla's face when she touched Ema and patted her shoulder as if showing her understanding as a friend. The girl spoke in an excited voice. "I understand now. This is why they said love is blind. Because he is your boyfriend, so even though he is not a mage, you defend him with all your might."

"..."

"Well, I understand. It might also because you are a herbomancer. A gentle and sweet girl like you may not really understand how to appreciate magical powers, especially from the offensive types like pyromancy."

Emma finally stopped talking. She took a deep breath, rolled her eyes, and turned her gaze forward to listen to Dean Anrankin's words.

"Now, let's welcome our student council president for this year, Bastian Moshe."

Dean Anrankin closed his speech which was greeted with a round of applause from the new students. Then, a young man with neat brown hair and a formal appearance climbed to the podium.

Immediately, muffled shrieks of the female students filled the hall. Emma narrowed her eyes and studied the man on the stage, to know why the girls were making a fuss.

"That's Bastian," whispered Ulla in a hushed voice. Emma could feel the pride in her voice. "He is my cousin. Isn't he handsome? Yeah.. he is a tad bit annoying sometimes, but I have to admit that he is very cool!"
