Flash Marriage
Chapter 1.2
Chapter 1.2
"I'm gay."
This time it was my turn to cough.
He kindly gave me a paper towel; I snatched the tissue from him and muttered to self while glaring at him.
‘Are gays also looking for women to date these days?’
His expressions did not look good. With cold eyes he looked at me but did not say anything.
I thought he probably misunderstood, so I graciously explained "I did not mean to discriminate against gay people but am just shocked, ugh after all gay people are rare species, keke, It’s little hard to meet one in real life. It’s kind of amazing.” He really was my first gay encounter in life, at least the first person I knew who openly admitted he was gay. Since these things are difficult to announce…..
He signaled waiter to bring the check, then with the same unflinching voice which carried a bit of ice blast, said: "since Miss Guan, You are not willing to marry me; we do not need to waste time here anymore, bye."
"Stop." I called after him.
He stopped but did not turn his body.
I cleared my throat, mustering up my strength I asked "when are we going to sign up for license?"
He turned around slowly and that action looked eerily similar to a robot’s. When I saw a complicated look on his face for the first time, I was immensely happy, so I gave him a smile baring all my teeth.
... ..
My name is Xiao Yan, Guan Xiao Yan. Although I was born into a normal service class family, but over the last few years I had been advocating to worship money and bureaucracy spots that’s why I really liked it when someone called me ‘Miss Guan’; In any case, it sounded stylish, right?!
I turned twenty-seven this year, a withered flower. I was a spinster, Ugh, though I wanted to throw this title off but never got any favorable opportunity till date. When I was eighteen, I was a glorified virgin who was proud of her virginity, but now I could not even tell others that I was a virgin without feeling ashamed….... alas, it was really not a glorious thing.
My life had always been calm waves; men to me were always an afterthought. Nonetheless as I grew older, my enthusiastic mother decided to not sit still. Everyday my passionate mother with eyes brimming with tears would sit in front of me shaking and claiming that these days a woman should take the initiative. If a woman is not married, then her mother also loses appetite and gets restless sleep. Although I always wondered exactly from which channel did her tears come out. But seeing how old lady was chasing and complaining all day long, I determinedly decided to get married to put a stop to her sufferings.
Anyways, as said earlier, Marriage to me was a non-essential thing.
Since I did not want to get married, I thought I should pretend to go on blind dates as this would ease the symptoms of the old lady and at least she would splurge less money on eye drops.
From my years of experience I have cumulated that the blind dating technique is quite systematic. The process mainly consists of answering the basic questions about you and then sending them to a predefined mail address/mailbox, then wait for the other party to contact. Although I thought that the marriage was not for me but those men had shown interest in this topic so I decided to join this blind date business for fun, then later in future I would treat them as a thing in the past and forget about them.
From time to time I got to meet some strange men in those blind dates which kept me entertained. Life was full of pleasures.
Until yesterday, I received a phone call informing me to go for another blind date. I thought to myself, oh no, another meeting.
At this point I could not even remember the name of the other party and had to dig out and look at the mail post for that.
Name: Jiang Li
Age: 30
Occupation: Engineer
Contact information is a mailbox, the mailbox was the same one used for earlier mail exchanges.
Except for the name, I did not know any other information and did not want to know anything as any false information could be provided over the mail and all truth would be revealed after the meeting.
I admit I was bored; in order to kill some time I decided to do some blind dating. As long as I could keep up with the conversation between the two, I could manage.
Naturally, I did not accept every blind date invitation; when this guy called me yesterday I really liked his mellow voice.
So today I was here on this blind date.
Then there was this stunning outcome that could make people laugh and cry at the same time.
....
At this point the guy was looking at me puzzled, carefully asked: “are you sure?”
I shrugged my shoulders and asked: "is this not the answer you wanted?"
"But, I can’t give you anything in the marriage." See, he really was a man of morals, though from his eyes that looked at me I could tell that he did not like me much.
I did not care and said "I do not want anything from you. You get what you wanted from the marriage and anyways it does not matter. You're quite right, after marriage we won’t interfere with each other, I also get to be free without the nuisance of children." In my mind I always had this conception that child is a creditor of the parents, thus a life without children would be a peaceful and quiet one.
He hesitated a little before saying: "for my child we can find someone to surrogate."
I nodded in agreement: "then you can find someone else for that, I will only be a stepmother." I evilly thought a stepmother, when in bad mood, can also abuse the child.
At that moment he could not come up with any reply but he had a look of discontent on his face. So I told him reasonably: "in your position it’s not hard to marry a puppet wife, besides now-a-days a lot of so-called rotten women are ready to marry gay men.” I was not one of those rotten women; it was just what I had heard of.
He threw me a frustrated glance, frowned and said, "I just want things to be less troublesome."
How can it get less troublesome? If I marry this stranger and never expose anything about him in front of his family, friends and loved ones, right? I tried to think smartly about it. Those passionate rotten women who enthusiastically wanted to marry gay men, they must also want something not to be exposed to others…women? It did sound reasonable.
But there was a small problem that I did not understand: "So for you the safest path is to find a lesbian to marry. This way you can protect your secret.”
He gave me a deep look, replied: “did you also have those psychological tests and results showed that you too have some homosexual tendencies.”
Me: "...."
The psychological test, bull crap!
Since I was twenty three, I never found men trustworthy, so it was better for me if I find a man with similar sexual orientation. This way I could cut off any future involvement completely. I thought his idea was extremely smart.
Now, Jiang Li with two fingers stroked his chin thoughtfully for a moment, said: "let’s get married right now." His tone was same as if saying “today, I ate two rice meals.”
So I too easily and comfortably said “okay.”
