Floating Immortal Order

Chapter 118: Intermediary Disciple

Outside of Dawn Creek City, the all-encompassing white and black Human Path of Reincarnation spun like a vortex, towering over the bank of the Forgotten River as it had since times immemorial.

The waters of the Forgotten River flowed and roiled endlessly. On the banks of the river, there were ghost citizens picking Mandala Flowers.

“Sis, what kind of place is the Human Realm?” a boy of 7-8 years with large, beady black eyes asked as he looked at the older girl next to him, who was stooping to pick a flower.

The girl smiled lightly and said, “The Human Realm, huh? It’s said that it’s similar to our Nine Serenities Realm, but apparently, not only can they see the moons, but there are also three large suns in their skies. We can only see the three moons here, though.”

The boy pointed at the black and white vortex off in the distance and asked in a loud and clear voice, “If I go into that vortex, can I go to the Human Realm?”

The girl quickly grabbed his finger, then furtively glanced around them. Seeing that no one saw him, she exhaled in relief and said, “From now on, you shouldn’t speak like that in front of anyone else. That is the Human Path of the Six Paths of Reincarnation. There are countless ghosts and ghost soldiers protecting it, and ghost citizens like us have always been forbidden from approaching it.

She placed a handful of Mandala Flowers into her bamboo basket, then lowered her head slightly and whispered in his ear, “But when ghost citizens like us are still alive, there’s no way for us to enter the Path of Reincarnation. Only when we die or exhaust our lifespan will we turn into a true soul, and the Path of Reincarnation will erase our memories as we head into the Ghost Path of Reincarnation to be reborn.”

The boy nodded, not completely understanding, but he cleverly didn’t inquire any further. He took the bamboo basket from his older sister’s hands, then trailed behind her.

As the girl continued to pick Mandala Flowers, she said, “After another four hours, our Xiangmi Village will be having a ceremony for testing bloodline concentration. Little Yu, you can head back and get ready. You don’t need to help me anymore. I can use ghost power to pick flowers very quickly by myself.”

Little Yu shook his head and said, “There isn’t really anything to prepare. There are several hundred thousand ghost citizens with the Grandmaster of Moonphase’s bloodline. I doubt that there’ll be even one person with a bloodline concentration of 10% in our Xiangmi Village.”

Tickling the boy’s nose, the girl said with a hint of surprise, “Who told you that?”

“Big Brother Xia told me. He also said that if you share a bloodline with the Grandmaster of Moonphase and have a concentration that exceeds 10%, you can report directly to the Domain of the Grandmaster of Moonphase and request the Grandmaster to issue an edict to bestow you a position as a Rank 6 Divine General,” Little Yu said, a hint of longing flashing in his eyes as he stooped over to pick up a fallen Mandala Flower that his sister had tried to toss into the basket but missed.

“Let’s take these Mandala Flowers back first. With this, we’ve picked enough to reach this month’s quota. If we go back too late, Lord Qiuyue will punish me again,” the girl said, weighing the bamboo basket in her hand. She looked around at the sparse Mandala Flowers lining the riverbank, a trace of deep worry appeared in her eyes. “But the regeneration of the Mandala Flowers on the bank of Xiangmi Village has been getting slower and slower. If it continues like this, the whole village might starve next year.”

Little Yu didn’t really understand this stuff. He was only excited to hear that they could finally go back. He grabbed his sister’s hand and started skipping off to Xiangmi Village.

… …

When Xu Disheng opened his eyes, he was back in the Green Lotus Domain. However, he didn’t find himself on the transfer array, but on a chariot atop the giant turtle that was floating in the air off to the side above Mingxin Peak.

“Respectful greetings to Severing Meridian Spirit Master, respectful greetings to all Spirit Masters.”

Yu Yangyao was the first to step forward and bow in a deferential manner. Xu Disheng followed suit, along with the other disciples, who bowed their heads in succession.

“You may be at ease,” Feng Simiao said, lightly flicking his sleeves, causing a gentle breeze to blow that refreshed the minds of Xu Disheng and the other disciples. “There is still another round of competition between you all, but that’s not that important. What is really important is the Eight Mountains Grand Tournament, one year from now. Each of you are the peak geniuses of the Sea of Qi division in the Mingxin Mountain Range. In this one year’s time, if you require anything to further your cultivation, you can directly inform Killing Heart Spirit Master, and our Mountain will do its best to satisfy your needs.”

Yu Xingchao came forward and cupped his hands in salute to Feng Simiao, then turned and flicked his sleeves. Ten jade slips flew out and stopped midair in front of Xu Disheng and the other top 10 disciples.

Severing Meridian Spirit Master nodded and said, “You all can go now. The last bout between you all will take place 3 days from now, where you will decide your final ranks. Then, you are to do everything in your power to prepare yourselves for the Eight Mountains Grand Tournament.”

“Severing Meridian Spirit Master and all respected Spirit Masters, we disciples will now withdraw.”

The disciples took the jade slips in front of them and cupped their hands in salute before withdrawing. Then, they all rode on their Magic Treasures, flying off in beams of light as they departed from the chariot atop the giant turtle.

Xu Disheng put away the jade slip, but just as he was about to step on the Yin Yang Diagram, a Spirit Master called out to him.

“Xu Disheng.”

“Yes, present,” Xu Disheng said, cupping his hands in salute once more. He didn’t know which Spirit Master it was, but he knew that it certainly wasn’t the Severing Meridian Spirit Master or the Killing Heart Spirit Master.

“After the tournament, go to the Chu Territory and bring Qingxin back to the Mingxin Mountain Range,” Celestial Tide Spirit Master said. He waved his hand, and a token landed in front of Xu Disheng. “I already sent a jade slip to the Peak Master of Morning Dew Peak, Lu Changge. From now on, your internal duties will be as part of Wenyuan Mountain’s Affairs Hall, serving as an intermediary disciple for the Secret Realms. You will be able to act at your own discretion within the Mortal Secret Realms.”

Xu Disheng looked at the token in front of him. The word ‘Affairs’ was written on it, and a dignified aura emanated from it. On the back were the words ‘Intermediary Disciple’.

Xu Disheng took the token, aware that doing so would make him a disciple tied to Celestial Tide Spirit Master’s influence. As long as he was a part of the Shangqing Sacred Sect, it would be difficult to get rid of that mark.

“Understood, Spirit Master.”

Celestial Tide Spirit Master didn’t say much else to him, simply waving his hand to signal that he could leave.

“This disciple will withdraw then,” Xu Disheng said in farewell before stepping on the phantom image of the Yin Yang Diagram and flying off of the chariot atop the giant turtle, heading in the direction of Morning Dew Peak’s circle of light.

As soon as he stepped out from the light barrier around the chariot atop the giant turtle, several jade slips came flying towards him. Xu Disheng grabbed all of them in his hand and roughly checked each one, his brows creasing slightly in the process.

“It’s Senior Martial Brother Xu!” Yuan Qi shouted. Seeing Xu Disheng flying over on his Yin Yang Diagram, he couldn’t hide an expression of happiness from appearing on his face.

The expressions of most of the Morning Dew Peak’s Sea of Qi stage disciples changed as they saw Xu Disheng, their eyes filling with reverence and respect.

As soon as Xu Disheng landed, several disciples surged forward emotionally, talking all at once as they praised and congratulated him.

“4th place, Senior Martial Brother Xu! Right now, your name is shaking the entire Mingxin Mountain Range!”

“To think that our Morning Dew Peak could produce an early Sea of Qi stage top 10 genius!”

Yuan Qi was at the very back, his expression jubilant. “Congratulations, Senior Martial Brother Xu! From now on, you’ll be considered as standing shoulder to shoulder with all those other top geniuses! What an incredible rise to prominence!”

Xu Disheng casually returned a few sentences to each of them in turn. Suddenly, he turned his head and looked towards the horizon, the look in his eyes turning grim.

A Dao Foundation stage elder appeared far off in the distance. He flew over on a flying sword Magic Treasure, stopping above Morning Dew Peak’s circle of light. In a glacial tone, he said, “Has Xu Disheng returned?”

There were no Dao Foundation stage disciples in Morning Dew Peak’s circle of light at the moment. After all, the internal affairs of the Peak still needed to be attended to. Now that the top 10 had already been decided, there were far fewer disciples spectating in the Green Lotus Domain by now, and the Peak Master, Lu Changge, and the several Deacons with him had already returned to Morning Dew Peak.

Xu Disheng, however, had long since predicted the arrival of this elder. Those several message jade slips he received earlier were very deliberately sent to him by Lu Changge and Bai Zhehua and a few others.
