"Next up, Donovan, Chili, and Evangeline. You have 5 minutes to discuss."

A girl and two boys started to talk to each other quietly. After 5 minutes passed, they performed a skit about a woman who kidnapped two boys to be her "sons". The two kidnapped boys knocked their kidnapper out and escaped after pretending to give in. They all portrayed their roles very well, but the girl seemed like a common maniac and not a delusional woman who wanted to be a mom, one of the boys had an okay performance while the other was pretty good and convincing.

After that performance, all of the people auditioning stood in a line, awaiting their judgement.

"We won't make this suspenseful, this is not a TV show, Donovan, Eric, Ryan, and Sam, you pass. The rest of you can leave."

Donovan relaxed in relief and Ryan jumped up and down around Sam and Ryan. "We passed! We passed! We passed!" he sang.

One of the judges smiled at Ryan's antics. "You have all done very well. I'll give you all some tips before you leave as well as some advice for the trainee academy. Donovan: Even though you are definitely not a child, you made us feel like you were one when you were acting. You are great at getting into character, but you were a bit slow in responding to the others when improvising. Over all, pretty good, but still not great. Eric: very fast at improvising, you didn't panic at all and your acting was good. Work on developing more facets to your characters' personalities int eh future. That will help you a lot and it'll make your character more detailed and realistic. After all, people are complicated. Ryan: Expressions were great, but I'd like you to participate more when you act. You were almost like an extra, only speaking a couple of lines. Sam: Your acting helped us imagine the scene and your body expressions were top notch.We'd like you to work on your volume. We need you to be loud, but not seem like you're yelling. As for advice when in the academy... Try not to offend anyone and try to make as many connections and friends as you can. The people in the academy may grow to be stars or influential people. There are also a few wealthy and powerful people int the academy. That's all we have for you, please go through the door me behind us and wait for further instructions."

The Sam and the others bowed and thanked the judges before passing through the door. On the other side of the door, there was a lady that had a couple of envelopes. She handed one to each of them.

"Miss, what exactly are ranks?" asked Donovan as he accepted his envelope.

"Ah, I suppose I'll have to give you guys a brief overview. Ranks represent how high you stand in the academy. With higher ranks, there is better treatment and you get access to more things. The high rangers even get allowances. If you have a high rank, you can talk to and get advice from stars and have access to high quality facilities and treatment. You raise your rank on the list by gaining points, and you can raise your grade by staying up in the rankings. The people at the bottom of the list get kicked out and people are constantly getting into the academy. Please try your best. I hope to see you all rise to the top and succeed."

The four waved goodbye and went home.

The taxi pulled to a stop in front of a huge mansion. Sam thanked the driver and paid him before walking into his house.

He slipped out of his shoes and placed them on the shoe rack before he noticed the sound of the TV coming from the living room. It was his stepbrother.

Before Sam's father divorced his mom, he had been having an affair with the woman he left her for. She had just started college and Sam had just been born. They had a child. 8 years had passed, and the woman had gotten out of college and went to be in a resident program to be a doctor. Sam's father almost divorced Sam's mother that year, but didn't because Sam and Annie were too young and he didn't want to ruin the family. 2 years later and Sam's father decided to do it. Sam was 10, Annie was 6. His father got Sam and his mom got Annie. His mom got the house and she sold it and moved to a different house nearby in the suburbs. Sam's dad was a brain surgeon and had enough money to buy a mansion. Sam's dad, his new wife, Sam, and his other son moved in together.

Sam used to ask where his mom was before he realized what had happened. Daddy didn't love Mommy anymore and left her for a different lady and boy. He didn't want the family he originally had.

Even though his stepmother tried to be nice to him, her efforts did not pay off and Sam started to ignore his new family.

The other boy's name was Derik. He was a spoiled brat who acted like an elementary schooler. His mother babied him constantly. This year, his stepmother gave birth to a little boy. The boy was named Bryan and he was the only person Sam liked in the mansion.

Sam snuck past Derik who was watching a movie on the couch and went to his room to call his mom to give her the good news. She was of course ecstatic.

Sam flopped down onto his bed, smiling after his phone call. The smile turned into a frown when he thought about how he would have to tell his father.
