Chapter 39 Fury
Xiang Ning looked at the cat’s head rolling on the floor, then at the headless body that crashed into the side of the cage due to momentum, stunned. What was this? Why was the cat so weak?
“How’s that possible?” Zhao Huatai watched in disbelief. Even if the Night Cat was raised in a pen, Xiang Ning shouldn’t have been able to kill it so quickly! Was it just luck?
Lei Zhongyuan stroked his chin. The things that escaped others wouldn’t escape his eyes. The moment the Night Cat had pounced on Xiang Ning, he saw the minute changes in his body. When the cat moved, Xiang Ning had also moved, as if he’d already observed and anticipated the cat’s next move. He didn’t hesitate when he attacked, slashing the cat’s head off in one swing. Everything was done in one smooth motion without any hesitation, as though he had discovered a secret.
“This kid is not bad at all, he has some potential. Keep an eye on him,” Lei Zhongyuan said to Dong Qianyi next to him. Dong Qianyi nodded and smiled, but didn’t speak.
Xiang Ning now suspected that the Night Cat in the Battle Network was a different species from the one he fought in real life. However, there was nothing too odd about it. He was a tier one, seven-star martial artist, how could he compare his current self to his past self? Furthermore, he had fought the Tyrant Spider, which was much more powerful than the Night Cat. It was just too bad he hadn’t earned many Fury Points from his battle.
He looked around, then turned to the soldier next to him and asked, “Bro, can I fight the other beasts?” He was dissatisfied with the battle and wanted to earn more Fury Points.
The soldier froze, then replied, “No, we have limited beasts here. You’ll get your chance next time.”
Xiang Ning nodded, submitting to fate as he returned to his original spot. Li Zimo and Liu Ruoxue walked up to him with a smile. “That was impressive, Xiang Ning. Can’t believe you killed the Night Cat so quickly.”
Since he had previously been standing with Fang Rou, the duo hadn’t approached; they hadn’t wanted to disturb whatever the pair had going on.
Xiang Ning replied with some regret, “I should’ve dragged out the fight a little more, I didn’t get much Fury— practice.”
Liu Ruoxue and Li Zimo looked at each other and grinned, while Zhao Huatai, who heard his comment, felt his cheek burn. Why did he feel like it was directed at him?
Fury Points +66
Xiang Ning was overjoyed to see more Fury Points. He had forgotten about this Fury Point generator! He turned to Zhao Huatai. “You were saying?”
Fury Points +88
Zhao Huatai coldly huffed, exasperated at Xiang Ning’s unexpected performance. He had been waiting for Xiang Ning to embarrass himself.
Truth be told, the one who felt the worst was Li Minghao. Everything had gone against his expectation. He had fought a beast before this, but to dismal results; he had been chased by the beast, and if a soldier hadn’t intervened in time, it could have been a traumatic experience.
The afternoon class officially ended with enough nightmare fuel for many of them.
“How do you feel? Can’t believe your first beast encounter was over so quickly. Is it because you practiced on the Battle Network a lot?” Fang Rou asked with a grin.
Xiang Ning waved. “A little. Right, is your dojo looking to hire a sparring partner?”
“Yep, why? Interested?” Fang Rou eyed him, puzzled.
He solemnly answered, “I want to improve my skills.”
“Sure, but hasn’t my brother given you an annual membership card? You can just pick one of the dojo members as your sparring partner for free.”
After a moment of silence, he replied, “The heavens have given me a task, and to accomplish it, I need money.”
“Fine, fine. Come anytime, we have many customers at the Thunder Dojo.” Fang Rou no longer wanted to talk to him. What nonsense was he spouting?!
Xiang Ning lightly shook his head. The daughter of a rich man would never understand the difficulties of peasants like him. Letting go of an opportunity to make money would be idiotic. Plus, a job that allowed him to get beaten up and earn money would be perfect for him.
Fang Rou probably would have exploded if she knew that. She would understand the money part, but why would he like getting beaten up? Was he masochistic?
After bidding Fang Rou farewell, he walked to the lower secondary area. His afternoon class had ended about ten minutes earlier than usual so he didn’t have to run.
When he arrived at the fountain, what he saw made him furious.
“Xiang Xiaoyu, don’t you be shameless now. I know your family’s situation, you just need to spend a few days with me and three thousand dollars will be yours!” A kid that clearly looked like he was from a rich family was holding Xiang Xiaoyu’s hand, refusing to let go.
“Zhao Huayu, let me go! I said I don’t like you!” Xiang Xiaoyu sounded like she was about to cry.
Xiang Ning’s expression turned cold. Xiang Xiaoyu saw him and burst into tears. “Ning!”
“Let go!” Xiang Ning grabbed the boy’s hand and swung. One must remember that Xiang Ning was a powerful tier one, seven-star martial artist, and he wasn’t holding back.
The boy was thrown in the air. A teacher who was coincidentally walking by caught him in a flash. When he saw Zhao Huayu’s ghostly pale face, the teacher sternly yelled, “Which class are you from?!”
Fury Points +33
Xiang Ning ignored him, bending over to wipe away the tears from Xiang Xiaoyu’s eyes, gently stroking her hair as he comforted her softly. “It’s alright now, I’m here.”
Xiang Xiaoyu leaped into his arms.
Level: Tier one, seven-star martial artist (210/3500)
Xiang Ning gently stroked her head until Xiaoyu felt safe and sound. Her brother was the best.
“I’m talking to you, are you listening?!” scolded the teacher, frowning.
Fury Points +44
Xiang Ning patted Xiaoyu’s back, then turned to the teacher and coldly replied, “Xiang Ning from Class 8, first-year upper secondary. How may I help you, sir?” His blood was still coursing through his veins and his face had the terrifying expression of a fearsome beast about to devour a man. The teacher’s chest tightened. Teachers in lower secondary were mostly tier one and two martial artists, so it was rightful for him to be slightly afraid of Xiang Ning’s display of fury—and he surely felt like he had just walked along the border of death.
Very soon, the teacher felt embarrassed that he was intimidated by a student. “Alright, I will talk to your class teacher. How dare you publicly bully a junior? Is that how you should act as a senior?”
“Why don’t you ask him why I did it?” Xiang Ning scoffed in disgust.
“No matter what, as a senior, you shouldn’t treat your juniors like that.”
“Don’t you think you’re being unreasonable?” Xiang Ning icily asked.
Zhao Huayu, who had been let down to the ground, turned on his communicator. “You stay where you are, how dare you do this to me just because you’re older! You’ll see!”
